So, DJI's most popular drone series is facing quite some backlash. Yes, we are talking about the DJI AIR 3, which has created lots of controversies among drone enthusiasts since its introduction. The DJI Air 3 came up with an innovative dual-primary camera system consisting of a wide-angle camera and 3-times medium tele camera. Yet, many fans are disappointed with this drone and are waiting for the rumored Air 3S, which is expected to appear with a 1-inch sensor. So, what makes the Air 3 not so much of a worthy Upgrade, will DJI release the Air 3S with a larger sensor, and if so when? That's your lost. The air 3 is better then the mavic 3 after using both. That stacked sensor made me sell all my old drones. WOW!!!! until u see that 1080p on the rc2 screen with occusync 4 dude in person u have no idea how clear and how far these things will go. I can fly 4 miles away and still have 75 percent of battery and crystal clear picture behind trees. Not to mention its 4g lte!!!! And it works in america. They say it don't but it does

I can’t see the air 3s coming this year though because a one year refresh cycle is something dji usually stretches out over 2 - 3 years.

Exactly! This dude obviously has not used it LOL! Every hands-on comparison review I've seen they are shocked that the newer sensor technology actually creates arguably better image quality than Air 2s' one-inch image sensor. I moved to Air 3 from Mini 3 Pro and expected similar images. But this new generation (back illuminated Stacked Sensor) FAR exceeded my expectations! Am VERY happy with the Air 3.

just a curiosity question. How are you expecting DJI to bring back true vertical mode on a 1-inch sensor on a drone with two cameras, or are you expecting the S/Pro NOT to have the 70mm lens?

Wow, you've clearly not bothered to actually try the Air 3. "Same image sensor as Mini 3 Pro" is false. This new generation is a back illuminated STACKED sensor. I upgraded from Mini 3 Pro primarily for the 70mm second camera, anticipating similar image quality. But I was totally blown away by the improved image quality with this sensor! It's 48MP image files are simply amazing compared to the Mini 3 Pro's older tech, and produce sharp images from corner to corner (m3P was extremely soft in the corners). Plus they've beefed up processing power making it capable of 5-frame AEB and continuous shooting at high resolution (m3P was not capable of this at all). Every honest hands-on comparison review I've seen reports amazement at the improved image quality, even compared to Air 2s, and I witness it with each use. Creating a "review" based solely on reading specifications doesn't cut it. The only real compromise with Air 3 (vs the "s") is fixed aperture. But, as a photographer with decades of pro landscape experience, my primary interest is creating imagery in the sweet dim light of twilight, where wide-open aperture is needed to get the lowest ISO for cleanest images, so variable aperture is something I'd seldom use anyway. Air 3 was an amazing buy, for my purposes, to get this kind of IQ in a Stacked Sensor, with the second mid-tele camera, at less than half the price I'd have to pay to get the two focal lengths in a Mavic (and the Mavic's 70mm sensor is the older tech, no thanks).

Same here. Its a great upgrade going Mini 3 Pro to Air 3. Air 3 is basically Mavic 3 Pro without 7x optical camera, and Air 3 has Ocusync 4… Mavic 3 Pro has ocusync 3+. I hope OS4 is supported on Mavic 4 Pro if one comes so less hassle with controllers. Hey check my video I made if you interested about scenery videos. Im not pro but I hope its something..

I doubt that they are going to call it the Air 3S. Their naming scheme seems to be to use the name pro for the upgraded version. But that’s only a guess.

That is a valid point, the S moniker has basically been dropped, although with DJI naming never makes sense, the mini 3 pro came before a budget version, the mini 4 pro doesnt have a budget version (yet) the mavic 3 was first then the classic then the pro, SE models come shortly after normal models, at this point an air 3 PRO could come a year or 2 after the air 3 launch, I think Pro is often used incorrectly anyway.

Why is everyone convinced it's going to be called the Air 3S, I know they called the Air 2 upgraded version the Air 2S but that has been the only DJI drone to be given the 'S' name, since then DJI's trend has been to call the upgraded versions 'Pro' so surely it is more likely to be called Air 3 Pro.

The 1-inch sensor has only 9.4 million pixels, rather than the vanity-like resolution of 20 or 50 million pixels. This is what gives OP3 the world's best image quality when viewing its photos and 4K videos on large 4K TV or monitors.

I was expecting an Air 3s at some point. By the time I purchased my Air 2, the Air 2s came out and broke my heart. I can wait for the Air 3s but I am expecting it to rise in cost. Ironically, the Air 2s cost replaced the cost of the Air 2 and the Air 2 dropped in price. I cannot see that happening again. Still, I know that it will be worth the extra $$ when it arrives so be prepared.

To date, I feel the best all around drone has to be the Air 2S. Newer drones biggest advantage is the longer flight time. That alone does not make up for the smaller sensor and I don't think that dollar for dollar any drone will be the overall quality of the Air 2S. As for the new controllers and O4, I think DJI missed the boat by not making them backward compatible. The new O4 controller would be a great addition to anything that had O3 capabilities (Like the Air 2S)...

you cant make the transmission system fully backwards compatible, I mean you can half ass it, but they require different hardware and power to work, so yes you can make all drones connect to the latest transmission system, but they can only run at their own hardware top speed, so a mavic 3 with its 03+ system could connect to 04 but would only transmit at 03+speeds. As for the best drone, I would not overly agree, the Air 2 was the best at the time, but the sensors and image quality has noved on drastically since even then, I had the Mavic 2 pro and air 2S, then I got the mavic 3 pro and the mini 4 pro and even the mini obliterates the air 2s except for low light, but only because it is a newer sensor with a wider aperture. An air 3 with a 1" modern sensor would hands down crush the mini 4 pro. But I also feel that this move was somewhat deliberate, to set up a air 3s sale

Air 3 s is not on the cards, officially at least, although it still confuses my why DJI downgraded the sensors, I mean they could have surely stuck a newer 1" sensor with a secondary 1/1.3 sensor, heck, I would have taken a single sensor with longer flight time and increased megapixels, how about doing 36mp and doing a 3X native crop, kind of like phones. but I think the cameras on these drones are getting far to comparable, i mean we have mini drones at almost 1", we have an air 3 which has almost 1", we Heck, the avata 2 on the horizon which is rumoured to have the same 1/1.3 sensor, even the $3000 mavic 3 pro has a 3X 1/1.3 sensor. The boundaries are drawing closer together to the point that we are reaching incremental update status. An air 3 with a single 1" 24mp sensor with variable aperture and optical 2X via cropping would have been a stellar drone in my view.
