I have an avata, my first drone, at 61 years old. I’m looking to upgrade so I will be watching this legislation. Being an election year I think it will get kicked down the road till January. What they are really worried about is how effective small drones have been in Ukraine. Utube it if you haven’t been keeping up to speed on it. Notice that the FBI said they extracted the flight pattern and other information from the Trump shooters drone. Be careful to observe the laws when flying. Your drone will be a witness against you in court.
@JoshDisher4 ай бұрын
What do you mean by "upgrade"? Unless you're dropping thousands on a new mavic or diving into homebuilt (or BNF) FPV, you've already got the best drone of that type, hands down. ALL future DJI products will require you to broadcast your location or, at minimum, log your flight to be reviewed later. I'm sure I'll catch hell for saying this, but if you love to fly and don't want to worry about future "laws", get an all analog drone and use a gopro to film. I love my DJI stuff, but I only thought I was flying drones with my Phantom and Mavic... It wasn't until I got a 6s analog IFlight Nazgul that I truly "joined the club." That thing will fly until I run out of parts to fix it, and nothing congress does can change that.

Trouble is for other countries, is that if the US sneezes on something, all of a sudden other countries get the biggest cold ever and blindly follow suit. An example the FAA bringing in the laws on flying drones. CASA in Australia followed the near same thing. First of all you couldn't fly a FPV drone, other than indoors. Now you can't fly an FPV drone BLOS unless you're a member of a model RC plane club. Some rules are there for good reason, thankfully we haven't followed with the stupid electronic tag from the FAA. So the affect of this bill in the US Senate has far reaching consequences, it's based on pure racist bias, nothing else and someone has shares in a US product which can't compete against a market leader.

I fly DJI drones, at least for now. Listen I hear what you are saying about what DJI is saying but,.. words have little meaning when dealing or doing business with Chinese companies. Everyone knows about the privacy issues concerning DJI. These privacy issues are real and a big problem. There is classified info on what the Chinese are doing behind the scenes that is the primary driver of this new legislation. Time after time the Chinese government which is joined at the hip with every Chinese company has proven themselves to be untrustworthy. IE; the company says one thing but the communist Chinese government does another. If they would stop collecting our data and prove that they aren’t then this legislation could be avoided. Sad part is DJI makes some very good flyable drones and there aren’t any real good U.S. alternatives. All companies answer to the communist Chinese government and that includes DJI and that’s a shame for consumers.

There was also “classified info” about mass destructive weapon in Iraq lol. First, you have no privacy now days with Google and Facebook harvesting your data 24/7. Second, no disrespect but why do you think the CCP would be interested in the data of an average American like you?

I blame Skydio for all this BS. Skydio wants to eliminate the competition so they will have a monopoly. For this reason I will never own a Skydio and call on all drone flyers to boycott them. And I will never vote for any politician that votes for this bill.

the law passed on a slim majority in the House, with Republicans voting in favor and Democrats largely against. In the Senate, Democrats hold the majority, and may use that majority to vote down the law.

Well if this isn't a good enough reason to bring the manufacturing of, well everything, back to the U.S. then I don't know what is.
