I love you J.B. You were one of my primary teachers that helped me get into drones and learn how to build them. I was inspired to use them in combat. It’s been evident to me for decades. Unfortunately, I’m not a real nerd so I still struggle with building drones with all the features of the designs I’ve come up with in my imagination.

The Rotor Riot FC being approved for sale to the government is probably for more civilian usages. There is no way in hell the military is going to use a homemade hackable opensource FC in any military equipment. That's not how they roll. I have family that works at a place I won't mention that designs & builds military electronic equipment. What they build is extremely robust and not available to the general public until it's around 20 years old & declassified.

"The military" is a big and varied thing. They absolutely are buying off the shelf hobby equipment for various purposes. And there absolutely is a market for non-China stuff.
@CarbonGlassManАй бұрын
@@JoshuaBardwell The military may use them for target practice, or non combat uses, but they're not going to put an opensource hobby drone into combat when American lives depend on them working. Out here at Camp Atteberry they've been using hobby RC planes for target practice for decades. They don't take them into the field though. Ukraine is using them out of desperation. Russia is using them too because their power is based on the perception of a power they don't actually possess. Their military actually kind of sucks.

@@TheTubejunky I'm talking about the hobby drones, like the ones I fly and that Ukraine and Russia are using out of desperation as weapons. Radio controlled quadcopters and RC airplanes. I have the Skystars Jupiter AIO and it is great - It looks like a piece of jewelry, just looks very nice. And if looks don't matter to you, so far it has been solid. I crash a lot, lot's of trying to get out of trees or needing turtle mode, and it is still here. I cannot say anything about how it performs for someone that is a good pilot or can really tell how good the FC/ESC perform. But for a beginner it was great, has large solder pads and solid plug connections.

Glad to see DYS back in the scene as both of my 5in setups ive had for about 6 years and still flying with the original DYS F4 PRO and one even has XSD 30amp escs and still going strong. Could be because i still fly 4S or that i run a shit ton of capacitors, one per arm and 2 on the Fc also makes them fly really smooth as no spikes really hit the gyro.

so ive been flying the hglrc y6 for a few months now. i actually bought the one off drone camps that he reviewed. i absolutely think there are some benefits to the design. I'm getting twice the flight time on a 1300mah pack then i would for a similar sized quad. usually about 6-8mins depending on how hard i fly. I've also noticed more coast-ability at a low rpm. the yaw authority and doing hard full stick flips it definitely has a down side.

1:50 The theory that the Y6's pitch authority only coming from the rear motors would have to rely on the center of mass and center of lift both being inline with the front motors, and I just can't believe that there was that much design put into the weight distribution. All 6 motors are surely adding to the pitch authority.

If i dont remember incorrectly i think Bob Roogi came to the conclusion that a well built y6 whould get sliglty longer battery times when flying at a constant high speed, but slightly worse for a normal flight, therefore might be some use for chasing fast cars for example. I have also been wodering if it might be slightly better in high winds, because of more power, and less wind catch and drag..
@nok96352 ай бұрын
You mention during your sandwich discussion, that such frames are potentially valuable to top racers. However, there are also many of us who are trying to minimize weight for other reasons for example, I am trying to build a sub 249g drone that can flip between 8K FPV and 8K cine that can compete with much larger drones on performance but gets to ignore many of the larger drone rules. I realize that it's a tall order. Doesn't mean I won't keep trying until it works. :) but the point is, there are many compelling reasons to minimize weight when either building your own from scratch or building it from parts made by other people. Many compelling reasons.

It's time the Apex was updated. For the price of an apex you don't get any TPU, the hardware is a joke, comes all together in a single bag. You gotta put your own press nuts in and file some of the holes just to get things to fit. Every other frame comes with tons of TPU and hardware is better organized. The ERA is an updated version of the APEX, but so many "copys" do it better and they need to update and step their game up.

I own that stack and was afraid to put 8s thru the fc so I too used a voltage regulator to bring the power down to 12v for the fc.
