While I have not had any issues except one of the batteries going bad (I have 6 and DJI promptly replaced), And as a disclaimer, I don't get to fly that much (that is changing). While DJI customer service does not live up to expectations. Software glitches have popped up... but what else is out there with this tech. Unless you're an engineer and can build your own, what else can give you the results the Inspire 2 does? Like anything else mechanical, you need to keep it in good condition. Clean it, keep it dry, oiled and be aware of your surroundings to keep it safe.

I think it should be said that if you compare this drone any of the other professional cinema drones in the market (no not the phantom of mavic series), it’s remarkably reliable. Any of the heavy lift systems are incredibly finicky and require advanced set up times and tons of technical knowledge. This thing is a dream and yes, it has issues, but everything does.

I was one of the first to get the I2 in January 2017. On my third flight I had it hovering about 20 ft up. I hit the stick in sport mode to see how fast it would accelerate. All power stopped and it smashed to the ground. I made a video about it that same day and posted it to KZbin. The next day DJI had seen the video and contacted me. Once I sent in the drone they said it was a power failure and sent me a new Inspire. And I too had a noisy prop situation. Besides that, now nearing 4 years, no issues. Just purchased a new Inspire as my I2 was stolen from my car. Now I'm worried an I3 will be announced right after dropping $7,200 for a new I2.

Bought mine back in the fall 2018 with an X-4S and a single RC. Mainly bought it to upgrade my license to the weight class and then planned to sell it afterwards (to have the ability to rent the weight class for each specific job). Absolutely fell in love with the features it provides Though, so I kept it. Since then upgraded to the X-5S and dual RC's with one Cendence. Been having 0 issues since purchase. My biggest complaint is honestly the stability in slow flight (My Mavic air is sooo much more stable in this flight regime), where it seems on the forums that its an issue everyone is having and the earlier firmwares were much better regarding this? Greetings from Denmark.
@AIRWOLF

Jacob!! My apologies on the LATE response. But it sounds like your I2 has been doing great! And yes, the stability is a huge issue, but thankfully it can be fixed for the most part in post production. The Mavic series drones are ALL rock solid in the air. Well, again thank you for stopping by its much appreciated. HAPPY FLYING!! :)

My problem is the pricetag, which is why I've never bought one. What is it about the Inspire series that justifies them being so expensive? The flight time is awful, it doesn't fold up, a mobile device is required, and cameras are usually not included. I spent $1100 on an Autel EVO, and I don't have those problems.
@AIRWOLF
@AIRWOLF 5 жыл бұрын
All your points are valid, but I think you're comparing apples to oranges. To work in the industry studios typically require certain codecs to match footage on the ground etc etc. The EVO unfortunately can not compete. It's more or less a toy. It doesn't shoot 4K or 6K RAW footage that will match the $100,000 cameras that studios shoot with. And it doesn't have a top speed that could keep up to a car for the 1000's of car commercials that are made every year. Granted it would be great enough for smaller budget movie indie type stuff. Again don't get me wrong I LOVE the EVO, but its in a lower league.
@pluviamachina3583
@pluviamachina3583 5 жыл бұрын
@@AIRWOLF That doesn't answer my question: What is it about Inspire series UAVs that makes them so expensive, even without a camera? (FYI, the EVO can record in 4K @ 60FPS, and can reach 45mph. Also, calling the EVO a toy is like calling the Mavic a toy. The Parrot Bebop series is more deserving of the "toy" description.)
@AIRWOLF
@AIRWOLF 5 жыл бұрын
It does answer your question, you’re just not comprehending. Why is the Arri Mini $50,000+ or the RED’s $35,000 or Canons C300 $15,000? You’re paying for the quality. The EVO DOES NOT SHOOT Pro Res or Cinema DNG codecs. The camera sensor is NOT comparable. The Inspire 2’s frame is that expensive because you need something big enough to carry the cameras it’s designed for. Are you going to argue that FreeFly charges too much as well for their drone? It’s $18,000 without a camera? And the EVO’s 40k 60fps doesn’t mean anything. The cameras sensor is non comparable to 40k 60fps on a super 35 sensor. Again..... You’re paying for the fact that it can carry a payload. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Great vid. Been on board with the Inspire 2 for two years. I had none of the issues you did although I had this. Out shooting one day fully confident on the bird and then on landing the thing wouldn’t sit down straight. I fought it down with stick control. I sat there and was like that was weird and packed up. Took it out the next day to test because I was concerned the way it behaved on landing. Went up flew great then landing it was scary not coming down straight at all then bam roll over chewing up a trailer about 20 feet away. It was totaled including the camera. DJI refresh got a new one 0 problems for a year and killer footage. I get the love hate. Still a great bird just not perfect.👍

Great Video and Info... late to view in Dec 2019 and still informative. Enjoy the videos! I have 2- Inspire 2, X4S, X5S & X7. Haven't experienced the Gimbal failure. My main failure was the battery cassette not retaining 1 battery and later not ejecting batteries, caused by an internal part within the cassette not serviceable, and a intensive detailed take-down to remove & replace. No other major, except occasional battery fussiness. Question on the Gimbal Balancing Board. You're stating the wires were breaking or coming out of connection on the gimbal mount, isn't there a little wire slack for movement? Was this a defect or more of a wearing problem caused by maybe heavy X7 & Lens stretching out the rubber gimbal insulators... in turn tugging the wires? Question, could the gimbal wire break be prevented by replacing the rubber insulators on a common schedule? I think there is a recommended life replacement on the insulators. On that same subject, did you install the gimbal protective strap? Noticed you're using M600Pro with Lumix MFT. Any thought on the A7R FF mounted?
@AIRWOLF
@AIRWOLF 4 жыл бұрын
Hey bud! Thanks for stopping by! As for your battery connecting issues I too had the similar issue. And to elaborate on the gimbal vibration board. The first issue seemed to be with the wires not being soldered in properly and all the others Im not too certain because when I had it sent in they just said it was the board and never really gave details as to what was the actual issue was. Im guessing just cheap parts. I also do have the wire strap for extra support on the gimbal as well. I also haven't got a chance to mount the A7R yet but maybe in the new year. We're going to be testing out a NEW heavy lift made by XDynamics in the coming months so stay tuned. :) Happy Holidays :)

Great video! I'm on my 3rd Inspire 2, had very similar issues than you. First issue was the image that went gone & after my local dealer almost replaced everything they found it to be the thin "hair" wiring from the vibration board. Then I got the dreaded prop issue, tried foam but wasn't happy with it, so replaced it with Lynh Phan adapters & T-motor 15x5 Props. Then I had an issue with the X4s camera where the camera (when doing mapping) doesn't center correctly - after lots of frustration & going back to my P4p, DJI fixed it with the latest firmware. Two weeks ago I had my first crash in 5 years & the I2 was damaged too much, so I bought a new one, just to find the same prop issue again & everything is still brand new. So I will try your prop fix, thank you so much but my carbon props are also on the way, I just feel more comfortable with them. On both my previous I2's I had the stuck landing gear issue but just a drop of oil on the worm gear fixed the issue. Two weeks before the crash I replaced 10 of my lipo's - when launching the I2 everything is well but after a minute or 2 in the air the battery % drop to zero but the volt is still good & the craft go into landing mode, so I replaced them +-60 flight/lipo - not good. I still love my I2 & it's giving me lots of joy & making me lots of money! :-) Thank you for your review!

@AIRWOLF
@AIRWOLF 5 жыл бұрын
Hi @@HenloduToit Yes for sure! My lipos cycles range from 52-170 and I haven't had any issues with any of them expect for 1 battery last year. I had a bad cell that I ended up returning. As for maintenance yes. Sometimes we do slide off track with maintenance but typically every 20 or so flights we'll run them down to about 8-10%. I do however set my battery warning to 30% so by the time we do land they'll sit at around 20-25%. As you know Lipos don't like to be discharged all the way. But we do log our batteries to keep a count on cycles after every job. We do also put our batteries to the test often. Some jobs are harder than others, where we're constantly throwing hot batteries on charge to get us through the day. Thankfully they are "smart" batteries and will discharge when they sit too long. And if you do put a hot battery on charge they won't start till it cools down. Hope that helps -Wolf

AIRWOLF same here, I follow the exact same practices, just strange that I've lost 10 lipo's within a month or 2. No issue with new lipo's, hopefully I will be getting better life out of them. Another thing I lately do is everytime before I charge my lipo's, I discharge them to 25% before charging them - I'm using the charging station from dji. In the past I have sometimes charged my batteries from 60-70% to full, maybe it has built up a memory or something...

Just went to the I2 within 2 months. I got very lucky and picked up AC only, brand new sealed in the box for 2200. For only 1000 more (w/x4s used) than the P4P I don't think I could of went wrong. The only real issue I have had was the gimbal connection misalignment when taking it off and putting it back on sometimes. It also draws a good amount of attention when it goes up but drones really have not made it mainstream here in WI like they have in other areas of the country. I think I've had less issues because I got into it late but I know the automotive industry well. I know Never to buy a redesigned or brand new model till the kinks are worked out. Kind of goes with the territory of complex machines but would I have bought the I2 upon release if I could have. As they say in here in the north woods " does a bear shit in the woods"?

Good Fly !!

Great video! I’ve had mine for a little over a month and a half. The first week I had it, one of my battery sets suddenly dropped from 50% to 14% as I was bringing it in to land. Luckily I contacted DJI support right away and to their credit it only took about 13 days between my shipping the bad ones to them in California from Ohio and them shipping me a new pair. Fortunately I haven’t had any problems since, other than an occasional tilted horizon that seems to take awhile to level out. I’m still getting used to this new bird and so I’m hoping some gimbal adjustments might help solve the issue. Otherwise I absolutely love this thing. As you know the photos are great but I’m always blown away at how smooth the footage is! Even when I goof it up, it still looks professional grade! It makes my Phantom 4 Pro and Mavic 2 footage look choppy by comparison.

I3 is just speculation and like apple it’s all just rumors. Now will they have an I3 at some point most likely just not anytime soon. Dji is focused on consumer drones and enterprise because that’s where the money is. This is just my opinion of course. But to answer your question. It all depends on what you’re trying to do? Do you have an establish relationship with clients in the film industry? Then maybe it would be a investment for you. But if you’re just starting up, I don’t recommend an I3. It’ll be expensive and you’ll be able to snag an I2 for much much cheaper and it’ll do more than the job. We use the I2 for major networks and brands. And I’m certain with the introduction on an I3 we’ll still be using the I2. Hope that helps.

Yea, mine suddenly stopped it’s motors, everything went dead, no control and plummeted to the ground right there in front of me from about 100 feet. Totally destroyed. 6 months later I get a new airframe after SO much brain damage, but the assholes wouldn’t warranty the X5s and lens on it....... and just to ward off people telling me it’s my fault, no. Believe me, it wasn’t. It was my third flight of the set and 90 secs into the flight, bam. No warning at all. I have 400 plus hours of flight hours of flight time and I know what I am talking about. On inspection it appears that the front left motor literally torqued itself right off the motor bar. Yup just tore right off as it landed 15 or so feet away from the crash site, totally unscathed in a bush. Now you tell me the connection is sound? I have heard of this happening to others as well. Beware of those poor glue joints on that Carbon fiber...... it will cost you dearly

Mannnn this just sounds absolutely terrible... ugh.🤦🏻‍♂️. I personally know someone that had the same problem. And because of the issue I had some 3D printed fasteners to hopefully keep everything snug just in case the glue breaks free. Again I’m sorry that this happen pal. Next year we should see some new drones come to market from different manufacturers.

Great vid. Question. Have you mounted non-DJI lenses to it? If so, how was your experience? If not, would you recommend not doing it due to the gimbal vibration board issues?
@AIRWOLF
@AIRWOLF 5 жыл бұрын
Hi 👋🏼 The Georgia Drone thanks for the compliments and question. So, yes! I primarily fly non Dji lenses (with the X5S) and “only” the lenses that they recommend. Such as the 25mm Olympus (which is our favorite go to lens). If I were to take a guess as to why the vibration board is always failing. It would be due to the poor design or just just parts that are used. Every time I’ve had it replaced it always comes back looking different. And when I say different I’m saying the inside part where the camera links into the vibration board. They installed a foam cushion one time, another time is been a black piece of plastic. And another time it was metal. That tells me that it’s been an issue and they’re trying to figure out how to come up with a fix. If the vibration board wasn’t an issue to begin with it would look the same every time they’ve replaced it. Again that’s just my opinion on it. And yes I recommend using their suggest lenses because the Olympus glass looks much much better than Dji’s. Olympus has been a lens manufacturer for a long time. Dji glass is great but they don’t have the experience quite yet in the lens department. Again just my opinion. Happy flying bud.

@@AIRWOLF understood. Last question. Do your clients see a difference in image quality between the Phantom 4 Pro and the I2? I get a lot of work using the P4P and wanted to up my image quality game. But i don't do any cinema work, mainly commercial real estate. Is it with the switch?
@AIRWOLF
@AIRWOLF 5 жыл бұрын
@@TheGeorgiaDrone I personally see the difference in quality because of the lenses. Unless you have an editor who knows what they're doing, they'll be able to make your P4P look pretty dang good. If you were to use your I2 for real estate videos your client may or may not notice because they're not trained to see it perhaps. If you use an I2, just make sure you're increasing your rates, we all know its super expensive. ;)
