Really good explanation, it helped a lot thank you. One suggestion is that since it is a long video, the time for each mode can be put in the description so that people can simply click and go to the mode they want to watch. For example: 10:00-15:00 : Course Lock 15:00-19:00 : Home Lock

Our sentiments exactly! LOL While we can't please everyone, we find comfort that we are able to provide quality training for the majority! If I were to put myself in a bystander's shoes, the only complaint I would have is that the app doesn't look the same. Well, people don't realize this video was created a year and a half ago. @Tvspecialists8 жыл бұрын
Not much more to explain. They are maps that give you a bird's eye view of where your copter is at. There's not much instruction to give, but you can't draw (with your finger) a flight plan out, or set waypoints, on the map and have it fly that route. You can trace a "guide" to help you follow a particular path, but it's all manual. Or it can record the flight path you just flew. But mainly, it's just used as a reference.

@Tvspecialists9 жыл бұрын
+jamesryanphoto When in camera view, touch the map on the lower left hand side. Then on the right side there is a symbol of a "drawing finger." Select that, and now you can draw a flight guide.
@Tvspecialists9 жыл бұрын
+jamesryanphoto If you touch the google map on the bottom left side it will swap with the camera view. Making the map the main screen. There will be, on the right side, a "guide" route drawer. It will not fly this route you drew, it's just used a guide so that you can manually fly the route you just drew. Maybe someday soon it will do that.

In this example, we used "Airplay" to an Apple TV from the smart device, but both the device and Apple TV need to be on the same WiFi network. Great tutorial!! When I do way points of POI can i create a path I want the drone to fly and change altitudes automatically and have the drone remember that flight path? I am trying to take video of a building where one side of the building has tall trees so the drone must fly higher, and the back has no trees so the drone should fly lower, followed by the side with trees (drone higher) and the front with no trees (fly lower and then drone goes toward front entrance low. Thanks
@Tvspecialists8 жыл бұрын
Using the DJI Go app, you must physically fly the route and set the waypoints along the way. Yes, it will maintain the altitudes that you set per waypoint. And yes, it will remember the route as a "mission" you flew so that you can fly it again, and will allow you to save up to three missions. Thanks for watching, don't forget to subscribe!

Can you implement the way points AND point of interest at the same time? Meaning can I place my way points from tee box to green then place my point of interest marks then fly the route? The craft world then fly from: WP1 - Tee box WP2 - Fairway WP3 - Green POI - around the green Will these two work with each other? Any tips would be helpful if anyone has flown this. Thanks.

Unfortunately, there isn't a way to combine the Flight Modes with the DJI Go App. All of DJI's systems, however, are open to SDK. So if you understand app development, and computer programming, then you could contact the DJI SDK team to give you the kit to help you get started, and then it's up to your imagination and be able to program whatever you'd like it to do. I know the app Autopilot is a very popular and much more accurate way to implement flight modes, but I'm not certain if even in that app you can combine multiple flight modes. Thanks for watching, and don't forget to subscribe.

When I press the auto land feature will it just sit down right where it is or will it climb to is RTL altitude first? is Autoland and RTL two different features? or are they the same thing??
@Tvspecialists8 жыл бұрын
Auto land and RTH are two different features. Auto land will land directly below of its current location. We actually never use the Auto takeoff and land features; we prefer to land on our own, but the feature is there if you do like it.
@GeorgeBonez8 жыл бұрын
+TV Specialists, Inc why don't you ever use these features? Do you consider it you be cheating or something? I like taking off and landing on my own too. I just want to make sure I understand these features in case I hit a button by accident or something which ive done on other aircraft btw. haha
@Tvspecialists8 жыл бұрын
Not a feeling of cheating, just the feeling of control. With the Phantom, I actually never land it. I grab it by it's 3rd leg (the left leg without the compass module) and hold on to it firmly with my right hand, and power down the craft with my left hand by holding down the throttle for 3 seconds.
@GeorgeBonez8 жыл бұрын
+TV Specialists, Inc I have recently learned to hand-land my Phantom to. its just the smart thing to do in my book especially if you take off and land or fly short missions like I do. most of the mishaps that I have is landing and some rogue gust of wind causes it to tip over. hell I think DJI should mount a landing handle to the aircraft and encourage people to land this way. ha

@Tvspecialists8 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately the POI intelligent mode does not work with moving objects; including the Phantom 4 even though it has object recognition to follow, but not in POI. Your subject must remain stationary to circle around. We don't doubt, though, that DJI has already had these thoughts and is perhaps something they're developing.

Thanks for your fine presentation. Towards end of September I made a first waypoint following trial with my PH 3 prof in connection with an iPad mini and the iPhone as wlan hotspot. A lot of GPS sats in view. After programming some waypoints at low altitude (3...5...8m) and start of the mission the PH 3 suddenly (a few seconds after start) turned on his back and has fallen on the lawn (no dammage). A test flight in course lock afterwards was normal. Do you have an explanation? Is there a spec on a minimum height? My vendor sent the flight logs which I cannot read to DJI with no response up to now.
@Tvspecialists9 жыл бұрын
+Jack Bosshard My first question would be if a compass calibration was executed prior to flight? These should be done every time you fly (truthfully every time you change locations, or you change time of day), it never hurts to do it; always helps. Also, if it had taken a fall previously, checking the health of the IMU is necessary. Even it had never taken a fall before, I check the IMU just about every 4-6 flights. It's real simple: open DJI Go app and go to camera view, touch upper right copter symbol (MC Settings), scroll down to "sensors", scroll down and touch "check IMU". It will do a brief check on the system for airworthiness. It's all in the manual, but Gyro "Mod" value should be 0.0 (with little movement), Acceleration "Mod" should be 1.00 (with almost no movement), and the Compass "Mod" 1500-1800 (shouldn't move around more than 100 points). Hope this is helpful. Thanks for watching!

You can do this two ways: 1) If you are flying the I1, then you can use the HDMI output on the radio to go out to a monitor while simultaneously using the USB port for app control. If you have a Phantom, then the $99 HDMI module needs to be purchased and installed on the back of the radio that will add the HDMI port. 2) In this video, my device is airplaying to an Apple TV that is on the same network, and the Apple TV is connected to the TV via HDMI.

+Mixes with DjTy on the flight sim and outside I've been able to set waypoints under 10 feet, but I've had customers say they can't do that. I wonder if it's a firmware thing, but I think above 3ft is sufficient.

James, great tutorials, learnt a lot, thanks for that! One thing I still did not find out is the following: I plan to fly my Phantom 4 from a moving sailboat. I would like the drone to return to the moving sailboat by the push of a button. RTH would be the best option. However, is it possible to define "Home" as being a moving target? Could maybe the (permanently updated) GPS-position of the RC on the yacht be defined as "Home"? What other option would be best, e.g. "TapFly" plus manual steering for the final landing approach? Or stall the yacht and then redefine the "Home" position to the yacht's current position? What is your recommendation? Anybody?

Very informative video! I just ordered my Phantom 3 Advanced (supposed to be here sometime next week) and have been looking for educational videos. Yours is by far the best that I've seen! One question however on the Waypoint Flying. Can you set the Waypoints without actually flying them? In other words, can you set Waypoints "off-line" via your tablet / smart-phone and then have the Phantom fly the route, or do you have to actually fly the route and set them as you go? Many thanks!

Not with the DJI-GO app. Apparently you can do this with the Litchi app, however I haven't bought it as I'm a bit skittish about using a 3rd party app with my $1000 drone. There are lots of videos of people using it, and I'll probably get it and try it at some point as the Litchi app seems to have additional functionality that the DJI-GO app doesn't.

Unfortunately, through the DJI Go app, there isn't a way to do waypoints without flying. However, there is an app that is full of awesomeness called, Autopilot. It's 3rd party, not DJI, but the programming, accuracy, and abilities it adds are essential for advanced users.

Questions: (keep in mind: I'm a novice) 1) c/point of int,....does the drone recognize if it will crash within the arc or circle that's it's "told" to fly in...or just crash if something is in the way in altitude? 2) In follow me mode..."same question"...does the drone "know" by virtue of detectors if it may imminently crash...if following someone/thing? Ex.) "I'm in a corn field...then a walk into a forest with trees at ~70'..and the drone is flying at 40'....will it detect and increase in altitude of crash into the nearest tree?

1) the obstacle avoidance only detects what is directly in front of it. In POI it is rolling to its right or left, so no, it will crash into something on it's side. 2) in order for it to detect an object for 'active track,' it has to have clear line of sight. So in that situation, of a forest, it will lose recognition and just stop at the edge of the forest. Hypothetically, though, it would most likely just stop and not increase it's altitude to continue to follow anyways.

I watched again , How did you get the video from your IPhone onto the large TV behind you , Airplay withApple TV? Also can what is being seen on the screen be recorded ? I mean can I put telemetry onto the video the camera is recording ? Thanks again your videos are excellent.

This may seem like a silly question, but can you add altitude variations to the way point list, or is it all done at a single altitude?
@Tvspecialists8 жыл бұрын
If you change the altitude from point A to B, for example, then it will automatically add an even graded slope. So yes, it will adjust altitudes from point to point.

TV Specialists, Inc Thanks kindly. I think that will make the resulting flight videos look truly amazing :) . I am really looking forward to flying mine soon, but the weather has been pretty bad recently.

Practice these flight modes on the simulator, just like in the video. This is a great way to become familiar with zero risk.

TV Specialists, Inc Yup, will do. In this rotten winter weather, this appears to be my only option :) .

Very good video!!! Better than the DJI officials! A question: how the airplane manage the different altitudes in the waypoints mode? because I saw that registering different altitude waypoints cause "robotic" and vertical altitude modifications that seems that the plane is falling down or going to the moon... I've not understand the mechanism... Why is not fluid?
@Tvspecialists7 жыл бұрын
That's just the limit of DJI's app. There are other 3rd party apps that can offer better waypoint flying options. Drone Deploy, or Autopilot are popular apps.

LOVE these tutorials guys - say - I can't find anything about "drawing a flight guide" and getting the drone to fly that pattern. Are there any tutorials on that?
@Tvspecialists9 жыл бұрын
+Ken Harrison CRS not certain if there are, but it's pretty simple. When looking at camera view, you'll see on the bottom left the Google map. Touch it, and the camera and map will swap places. On the left side, you'll see a symbol to draw a flight guide. Keep in mind, it's just a guide. It won't actually fly what you draw.

Thank you very Informative , nicely explained I have a question: In Waypoints , can each waypoint be edited? Can you go to waypoint 1 and have it go to 35 feet for 25 seconds, then go to next waypoint and have it go to 40 ft. Then the next and so on. So different heights and stay times? Thanks
@Tvspecialists8 жыл бұрын
Not within the DJI Go App. Because DJI leaves their systems open to SDK, there are many 3rd party apps that are chucked full of more options available within the flight modes. Popular apps are Autopilot or DroneDeploy.

Does this work with the Phantom 3 Standard as well?
@Tvspecialists8 жыл бұрын
The modes that the P3 Standard are capable of are: waypoint, course & home lock, point of interest, and follow me.
