DJI M30T: Is it worth the price?

In this video I provide an in-depth look at the DJI M30T. The M30T has been billed as the "ultimate public safety drone" but it comes at a cost. I'll discuss the capabilities and features of this drone in an effort to help you decide if these features are worth the cost.

You’d be absolutely amazed at how much you will use a drone on a farm or any piece of property. My family owns a small 20acre farm in South Jersey. I left my Mavic-2 Zoom and original “Smart Controller” at the farm a few years ago. It was used almost daily just for “situational awareness”. (I come from the fire service world, forgive the terminology LOL) I just left my Mavic-3 at the farm for the family to play with for a few weeks. The already decided on buying one just based on the flight time and excellent zoom camera capabilities. I TRIED to convince them to go for the M30T, but it’s just too pricey for now. Possibly the Mavic-3t ? But the M30T still ranks at the top. The weather resistant capability is another huge plus. Definitely try a drone!

I work in a newly built mining area. studied drones last year. I don't know the company's acquisition price, but believe two tools areas that can reduce my team by 4 people. Yes I hear what you are saying. This drone is targeting the commercial and public safety market. The capabilities and prices have come down significantly over the last few years. Just a few years ago this type of tech wasn't even available. Less capable units were selling close to $30K so this one is a great deal by comparison.

I watched this video and many more on the DJI MT30T and today I received mine. Nothing could have convey the magnificence of the Matrice 30T, the solidity and how its exquisite manufacture, the genius of its design. I have four consumer drone and love each one of them, but none compare with the M30T. Definitely ENTERPRISE drones are in a class for themselves, they truly are very different birds! Thank you very much for giving us a heads up on perhaps the best drone DJI has ever build, as far as I'm concerned and, in answer to your question, yes, it's worth every penny and even more!

Brilliant drone. I was wondering if an exterior mic could be installed on this drone? If so, I would expect this drone would come in handy for search and rescue in areas that experienced an earthquake or tornado. Thank you. I am not aware of an external mic. I think the problem would be wind noise from the propellers. It's a good question and you aren't the first one who has brought it up. It is an option buried in the camera menu. You'll find it if you switch to the thermal camera and then access the thermal camera menu from the right side of the display.

Hey CAPT, Is there a way to invert the flight controls? I want to know before buying this. I need the Y axis inverted so when I descend I push the stick up and ascend I push the stick down. Some amazing tech. A lot of capability for the price. A few years ago this would have been a lot more. Any insight if DJI will offer a VTOL UAV? Endurance time is the only draw back here. I’m familiar with the DJI Phantom, and Mavic series…so no where near their enterprise lines.

The M30 does have sustained flight times close to 40 minutes. The hot swappable batteries can get you back in the air in less than 1 minute. I am unaware of DJI offering a VTOL. Right now the only viable VTOL is the Autel Dragonfish but they are much more expensive.

It will follow the object with the camera in a stationary position. If the pilot inputs upward right stick the drone will follow the object.

Hi Brian, while you could shoot real estate video this drone wouldn't be my first pick. The camera is decent but the optical camera sensor size is smaller than less expensive models like the DJI Air 2s and the Autel Evo Lite+. The M30 is louder than those consumer models. These prosumer models have features that give you better control over exposure and color reproduction.

You need an internet, data connection to the drone to retrieve a live map. This can be accomplished in the field by linking to a WiFi hotspot or tether to your smart phone. It is possible to download maps (cache) ahead of time from a WiFi connection.

The Mavic 3 Enterprise Thermal is a good starting point, the M30T has many additional capabilities and features. One thing to consider is what are the operating conditions? I have worked with many agencies that were able to purchase the equipment with grant funding. I discovered that local donors are the most common source of funding. I suggest reaching out to local community foundations and area businesses. They like supporting local efforts. Place emphasis on like saving uses in your proposal such as searching for missing persons. Good luck with your efforts!

If you're referring to the DJI FPV drone, the included remote can be tethered to an iPad and you could view the video that way. I have seen aftermarket 3d printed tablet mounting solutions for the iPad mini.

Yes, the recordings will reflect the view of the camera at the time you triggered the recording. It will record up to 4 files simultaneously, a separate file from each of the sensors.

Drones with larger camera sensors tend to have better low light performance. I'd suggest the DJI Mavic Air 2s with a1 inch sensor. The DJI Mini 3 may be sufficient if there is ambient lighting and its smaller.

Yes, If you apply up right stick the drone will fly in the direction of the object being tracked. If not it will stay stationary and try to keep the camera focussed on the object until it moves out of sight,

Currently the only DJI drones that have both capabilities are the M300 and M350. These flagship drones can carry multiple payloads including the H20T thermal/RGB and zoom camera and the L1 or L2 Lidar model.

A couple miles if there's not a bunch of interference around. Results vary on the environment. A waiver is required to fly beyond line of sight.

Do you mean online or in person? There are lots of online courses. I offer on online course for remote pilot test prep. In person, yes but it depends if such a class is available in your area. I have conducted training locally in NE Wisconsin. I used to travel across the country to do these classes but after the pandemic I stopped and just do it locally now. Try reaching out to dealers or local organizations to see if you can get some instruction.

How long did it take for you to get your ROI with this drone?

For me, a couple of months. It really depends on your plan to monetize it. Inspections can pay well. Roofs, solar panels, or other structures. SAR work is often donated time to help folks in crisis. Same with searching for lost pets, I never have the heart to charge anyone who is dealing with a crisis so I just donate my time.

The Evo Max4T will have a camera that is similar in capability but slightly less zoom capability. The Max will use a single battery instead of the redundant batteries. There are some significant differences that I will highlight in a future video.

@@BillBongle looks like its more for Police and Search N Rescue. The laser range finder, redundant systems and water resistance. So I think for everything id need the Mavic 3T would suffice. I just don't like the controller! 7 inch isn't big enough in my opinion. My phone is bigger than 5.5 inches!

We are looking at two different drones the Mavic three enterprise thermal is probably the first one we’re going to get and then we’re going to get the, M 30 T later on if when our budget allows it like to get some information from pricing that you said that you actually sell these and hopefully we can work together if we can get prices that are cheaper or comparable to my name is Bert French work for my local fire department

Thats a noble cause. Some agencies do not have the budget and would really appreciate a private person offering their help. If you go down this road I would make contact with the agency first to make sure they are good with it.

Hi can you tell me i am also ex Police Officer and want to know how good is this drone for searching suspects that hides in the bush? And how fast can you change the batteries so you wont loose the suspects? What advice will you give?

This drone is very capable of locating persons or animals in the outdoor environment. I've located wildlife such as squirrels and birds so a larger heat signature of a person is even more detectable. Battery swaps can be done in about 30 seconds without powering down the drone.

These seem inexpensive enough compared to capabilities provided to the public safety industry. Do you believe there is a reasonable market for individuals like yourself to provide this service on a contractor basis to PS?

I know of several people who have purchased these drones for their own use but then offer their services to public safety. To be honest there is not real money in contracting to public safety. Most everyone I know donates their time.
