There's a feature built into DJI Go 4 that increases the saturation and contrast on the screen while flying in D-Log. It's the icon that's a square with a vivid rainbow spectrum. Just a heads up, as it proved pretty useful and you pointed out the challenge of flying with a flatter profile live view. Edit: Really enjoyed the video by the way! Wasn't just stopping in to be critical :)

Yes that’s correct. The basic correction should happen before the log conversion in the processing pipeline. Really good tutorial Evan. Two questions: 1) I have an older Intel i7 processor with 32 gigs of memory. Will I have problems working with H.265 10 bit files? 2) I noticed that H.264 is available and am wondering what my choices for color profiles will be in H.264? I currently fly a P4P and shoot in D-Cinelike and find that pretty acceptable but I like a lot about the new Mavic 2 Pro and am looking seriously at getting it. Thanks.
@EvanSchneider
@EvanSchneider 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! To answer your questions... you should be good with that setup! I’m processing it on an older i7 too with 16GB memory and it plays back pretty smoothly. You can always preview in 1/2 or 1/4 resolution too if you need to. I am not sure about the options for h264 but I believe they are the same! There’s no D-Cinelike on the mavic 2 pro. That was also my favorite profile on the Mavic Pro, so I was skeptical as well, but I have been pleasantly surprised with the standard profile! It feels almost the same as D-Cinelike, it’s not quite as flat but it’s definitely not too contrasty. Plus, with 10-bit, the DLog-M is much easier to grade. Definitely some interesting compromises though!

@EvanSchneider
@EvanSchneider 5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say to never shoot in auto mode, however you’ll have much greater control over the image once you learn how to shoot in manual mode! There are many situations where auto mode just doesn’t quite nail the exposure. You’ll have much more cinematic footage using manual!
@guitarsan
@guitarsan 5 жыл бұрын
The other reason to go manual with video is that auto tends to change the exposure level when you rotate or orient the drone. That becomes jarring when you’re viewing.

Hi Evan, 10-bit is available in Full FOV and HQ. DJI's website...What is the difference between Full FOV and HQ? "Full FOV down samples from the 5.5K sensor to 4K resolution while HQ crops in the center for finer image quality but less FOV. Full FOV view is 75° and HQ view is 55°. You can select between them according to your actual shooting demands."

Thanks for your concern, but I was actually clear to fly in this area at the time of filming. This was shot outside downtown LA which happens to be directly under the main flight path into LAX, which is still about 20 miles away. The shadow of the airplane you saw was still far overhead. You can also see on my screen recording that I was flying at 119 feet, which is well below the maximum altitude allowed. Finally, I had the drone within line of sight. New comment : the rule is double your frame rate. IF you forget your ND filter, what is the ideal frame rate for a 30 fps editing timeline for the video not to be choppy?
@EvanSchneider
@EvanSchneider Жыл бұрын
The double your frame rate rule results in a pleasing motion blur. If your timeline is 30fps, you should shoot in 30fps (or 60fps and slow down 50%). If you forget your ND, I’d recommend shooting at the lowest ISO and close your aperture as far as it can go, then adjust your shutter speed to a proper exposure. That’s the best you can do at that point.

Are you going to make a Mavic 2 LUT Pack?
@EvanSchneider
@EvanSchneider 6 жыл бұрын
Possibly in the future ;) right now I made the free LUT which works perfectly with the LUTs in my SPECTRA Pack. Link in description

Hi Evan I bought the Spectra-pack, but I did not get the LC_Skin_01 you use, where do I get that?
@EvanSchneider
@EvanSchneider 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, my apologies for the confusion! Since releasing this video, the Spectra Pack LUTs were renamed. LC_Skin_01 is now LC_INTEGRA_01.
@ChuppyCata

so this should work for footage from the Zoom too, if shot on normal profile?

Hi Catalin, are you asking about the LUT? It only works on footage shot in DLog-M

@Evan Schneider - If shooting in DLog-M and applying your LUT to convert to Rec. 709, then you skip the standard color correction and go right into creative LUTs? Or are you just applying the first LUT to give you a basic correction and get into the basic color space, make your basic adjustments (exposure, contrast, etc) and then apply the creative LUT?
@EvanSchneider
@EvanSchneider 5 жыл бұрын
Hey! Yes, I would recommend applying the conversion LUT, then making basic corrections, and then applying the creative LUT.

Great video. DJI needs to update the sensor firmware, IMO cameras have character. I can tell a Nikon vs. Sony image, Canon DSLR Vs. Mirrorless, and so on. This sensor gives off a "You're about to watch a Michael Moore film, and you will be sad at the end." - Look. Just my eyes maybe.
@EvanSchneider

haha, hopefully that changes for you! I agree though, every camera does have a character to it.

Thank you for the information! What do you tend to use more? 4KHQ or 4K FOV? Or just depends on the location?
@EvanSchneider
@EvanSchneider 6 жыл бұрын
No problem! I tend to use 4KHQ more often for the quality, but if I really want a wide shot I'll switch it to 4K FOV and the trade-off in quality isn't too bad as long as it's exposed correctly!

Not to criticize, but why exactly wouldn't you just use the DLog-M to Rec.709 LUT that DJI provides?
@EvanSchneider
@EvanSchneider 4 жыл бұрын
When this video was released, DJI had not yet released their official conversion LUT. Plus, every conversion LUT is different, and while the official DJI LUT might be more technically accurate, oftentimes I prefer the look of my custom LUT better.
