Class E airspace can be so tricky sometimes. I thought it was worth an explanation. Where I was at on the viewpoint, it is Class E3, because of the segmented magenta line that was bisected by the solid magenta line of the Boise airport. Are we meeting for a flight at Eagle Island this weekend? 🙂

Very nice video Marcus! First time I've chimed in though I have watched and enjoyed a number of your videos. I'm partial to DJI so I lean toward those. I am a flyer and started with a Mavic Air 2, then moved to the Air 2s. But I couldn't resist, I bought a Mavic 3 recently and sold the 2s. I really enjoyed the 2 and the Air 2s but the Mavic 3 is truly an incredible drone and I'm loving it! I'm really digging into learning how to get the best from the camera on this thing as I really like flying and video capturing at sunrise and sunset. Also want to try some night flying. Anyway, keep up the great videos! Cheers

Hi Marcus, greeting from Sydney, Australia. Love your stuff. You briefly mentioned return-to-home RTH in the video. Please clarify re the RTH height. If you set RTH height at 100 feet, does that mean 100 feet above where the drone is when instigated , or 100 feet above controller? Your flights over the Snake River Canyon are a good example as if you are flying from the rim and use RTH when the drone is at near river level, the result would be different from when you are flying from river level and use RTH when the drone is up and over the rim. In second scenario, the drone could crash as it tries to descend to 100 feet from an altitude that may be well above 100 feet. Similarly, if you are on the rim and the drone is way down there, it could rise the 100 feet and fly straight in to the rim. Worth exploring and educating. Love your opening credits too
@IdahoQuadcopter3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Roy! The RTH height that you set in the app is measured from the takeoff point.
@romo85473 жыл бұрын
@@IdahoQuadcopter Thanks for the clarification, just as I thought. However, if that is the case, if the home point is at river level and you fly up and over the canyon, out on to the plain, then RTH up there could crash the drone in to the ground, as it tries to descend to the RTH height, well below the ground level of the plain. I guess it is always, flyer beware!
@IdahoQuadcopter3 жыл бұрын
@@romo8547 If you are flying higher than the preset RTH, most drones will stay at that height. With smart RTH on the Mavic 3 it will take the best route home and ascend descend and fly around if necessary.

I disagree with you on one point - that is precision landing. My Mavic 3 has landed within 2 inches of where i took off on the 5 return to home landings that I have done. MUCH better than the Mavic 2 Pro which is about 4-6 inches.
@IdahoQuadcopter3 жыл бұрын
That is great! Even when I let the drone hover for a bit at the 7 meters that DJI suggests, I don't get near the pad on landings.

Nice footage, but are you 100% positive it’s legal to fly DRONES there? While you may not need ATC clearance, that same FAA document you were using also states the following: (Small UAS Operating Rules) 14 CFR §107.41… “No person may operate a small unmanned aircraft...within the lateral boundaries of the surface area of Class E airspace designated for an airport unless that person has prior authorization from Air Traffic Control (ATC)” According to the document (worth mentioning is 3 years old), the only exception to entering the 700 ft. class E shelf is for is tower inspections via the 400ft. rules. And since SUAS operators now communicate through LAANC (and are prohibited from contacting ATC)…. Who knows??????
@IdahoQuadcopter3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I'm 100% sure FAA wise, however, because the Army Corp of Engineers manage the reservoir, I get an annual permit to fly there.
@swoopix-hovernh3 жыл бұрын
@@IdahoQuadcopter Interesting! Do you have to apply/get LAANC approval there each time you fly? If so, the (FAA) should update the terminology to include LAANC approvals/clarify the info on that doc. (Either way, more clarification IMO is needed!) ~ Even though it's sort of "attached to a class-C airport" the dash magenta rectangle appears to be "the lateral boundary." of this airport.

The Mavic footage looks very low in definition! no details, it seams like they put a cheap lens. Like I always being saying, bigger sensors means nothing is the lens are crap. If you fly the Evo 2 Pro 6k you see all the missing details. And for the fraction of the price. People without camera knowledge get sold out by marketing so easy. The are better fish on the market and soon better cameras for 1/2 of the price.
