DJI Mavic Mini | First Time Drone Owner Perspective

Thought I'd pass this on. I learned a lesson on what happens if the "critical battery" alarm goes off. I was landing my drone and had hovered near a large tree, but not where my home point was. The critical battery went off, as the drone knows how much battery it needs to return. As I was landing, it shot straight up 150 feet, which was the altitude setting to return home. Then it hovered over to the home point location and descended. It did exactly what it was set to do. Next time I had my game face on and consciously was aware of it. It did happened again, but I knew about, expected it, and immediately cancelled the return home to override the landing to another spot. Great video.....Happy droning.

Me too... Over water on the first flight???? My first drone was a cheaper one from China (not that DJI isn't from China) and the thing got away from me almost immediately. The Mavic Mini looks much more reliable, but I'd be afraid to fly it where I couldn't retrieve it if I didn't know what I was doing.

Welcome to the DJI community!! A little tip for new drone operating... Watch as many videos that you can, not just about the Mini but all DJI drones. I've been flying for going on 2 yrs now, started with a spark and now have the Mavic Air. Good luck learning and exploring!! Not bad for first flight. You can set your sticks and gimbal to be a little bit smoother. All things you will learn as you go.

Flew mine today for the first time in windy conditions. My Mini did well. I was very cautious as a first time drone flyer. I'm hooked now. I plan on enjoying this for a year or so and pass it along to my 6 year old so she can enjoy it too. Of course I will upgrade when I do :)

FYI... The 400 ft limit is typically AGL (above ground level), but you are permitted to fly even higher if there are tall structures like the cranes close by. If you are within 400 feet of a tall structure you can go 400 feet additionally higher than the structure. For example, if those cranes are 350 ft tall, and you are within a 400 ft proximity, your ceiling level can be as high as 750 ft AGL.

Have to hand it to you. Had mine out for two flights in the back yard and ran into just about every possible obstacle there is. I guess there is an advantage to getting above the tree line! After that test run, I sure as heck won't be trying it indoors for a while. As soon as all the parks re-open, I need to get to some wide open spaces. All that said, great video and a nice introduction.

A lot of reviews for the Mavic Mini are promotional and those people didn't even buy their drones as they are being sponsored. Which tends to make their reviews a bit bias, lots of sugar-coating and avoiding to emphasize the cons of the Mavic Mini.

I just got mine and love it. Lost my Spark the other day I know where it landed, just can't see where it is!. While changing the props I was distracted and didn't properly lock in the battery. REMEMBER TO LISTEN FOR THAT SNAP WHEN INSERTING BATTERY. The Mavic Mini is great but I miss my Spark.

Justin, the extra batteries are about $45.00 each on the DJI website, which you would be right at $90.00 for both. And the fly more combo is the way to go as you get the charger along with the extra batteries. Have fun as the mavic mini is a great drone !!

Getting ready to buy one. Nice demo. I did cringe when I saw you taking your eyes off of the drone for such long periods. Don't let your drone out of your sight for too long. My first drone was a 30$ WL Toys, that thing did not have anything, no auto stabilization, no GPS, no Return to home, no sensors to help you fly, thats when I learned how to fly drones for real! of course that shit lost signal at some point and flew away, probably to the south with ducks, after that i had like 4 more cheap drones, before moving to some serious stuff, so i had to decide between Mavic Mini and Parrot Anafi, everyone on KZbin (even DJI owners) told me to go with Anafi, because of its price and features for photography, 4k, zoom, flight plan, follow me mode, etc. so i got it and love it! Mavic Mini is very loud, Anafi is much more quiet...

Excellent choice of drone, the Mavic Mini is an ideal step into the world of drones, not a beginner step but a very advanced one, don't be fooled by it's small size and 'toy' like appearance. @@daretoride8112 Active track is a nice feature to have and to some extent the Mavic Mini is capable of it and seems to have it, although not fully enabled in the firmware yet! Just try one of the quick shots like circle and target the drone at you, if you walk along it seems to follow. 😎👍 For me it's not essential and certainly not a deal breaker, I probably wouldn't use it that often to be fair. However I feel sure that DJI will implement that feature in a future firmware update, at the moment they're enjoying the huge sales of it, so have no need to add it yet! 😎👍⚠️

Invest in landing pad. Good for home I'd and keeps drone clean. Protects blades from small rocks. No dust inside and on camera lenses.

Justin, you did a great job with this video. You will find a great improvement in your video quality as you adjust the various sensitivity settings that prevent jerky moves by the drone and camera. You need to slow the responsiveness down just a bit to provide smoother starts and stops, turn and tilts. The Cinema setting does some of that for you, but I use the adjusted settings as my standard on my Mavic 2 Pro and on the Mini. My first videos and flights were nowhere as good as yours so you should be a very pleased young man. NICE JOB JUSTIN!

Long post, please read. There's some comments below about FAA regs and commercial operation. I'm not competent to talk about US laws, but I can talk about UK ones. It's quite clear here, flights that result in commercial reward, either in money or in kind, require a CAA Commercial Operators Licence - not an easy thing to get, many more hoops to jump through than for the FAA equivalent. This requirement not only covers income from KZbin ads but could cover 'freebies' from manufacturers looking for reviews. My advice for recreational UK flights at present is do not moneytrise your videos and if you get 'gifts' to review give them away afterwards, return or decline them. Hopefully the laws will evolve, the ever changing technology is already making some of them rather archaic. Contact your Representative, or in our case, MP, and urge for a more balanced approach. Drone technolgy has great potential - not least for assisting the development of autonomous vehicles of all sorts - and should be supported sensibly, not simply supressed. Stick to the rules folks, no-one wants a drone sucked into a jet engine or to cause a crash by flying too close to an Interstate and distracting drivers. Don't give the die hards ammunition to bring us down. Fight to get the less sensible rules changed, but do so legally. Join a drone or model airplane association - get your voices heard. And take out insurance cover! FYI I have £25 million for third party claims. Yup, £25 million. And it's only available to protect me if I fly within the law ..... Thanks for your time. Happy flying. The mavic mini's batteries are $45 on the DJI website. Great drone one of my favorites and I have several including the mp2 pro and find myself flying my mavic mini more . Don't get me wrong if I need better range and more resolution I'm going to my M2P.
