Making an update here to address a handful of comments that I have been receiving on this video. What I am showing you in this video is specifically a workaround for the DJI Mini 4, DJI Air 3/3s, and ANY DJI Mavic 3/Classic/Pro/Cine line. If you own a DJI Mini SE/2/3/3 Pro or DJI Air 2/2s or Mavic 2 Pro/Zoom, then use software like Litchi/ Drone Deploy/ Drone Link/ Map Pilot Pro. These other options are either free or have a 1 time cost. There are no "lies" in this video, it is specifically aimed towards the newer DJI drones that have released that do not have compatibility with the other software that I just mentioned. I hope this clears up any confusion.

I have a DJI mini 4 drone with RC2 controller and I could not get the route map to load into my controller. I could not find a way to exit the DJI application, the icons you show in the video are not there on my unit, and no back button, I tried them all. I also tried to hook the controller up directly to a computer via USB-C as suggested by some and that does not work either. Any ideas on the RC2 controller to make this all work?

In case of low battery in the middle of mission, what happens? Will it return to the home point for me to change battery and continue the mission ?
@stefanwoermcke6828Ай бұрын
Actually there is no need to do a flight to get the basic waypoint mission (at least for the RC2 controller): 1) turn on the controller (no need to start your drone) 2) click on „connection guide“ 3) click on „camera view“ and from there just hit the waypoint mission symbol on the left side. Now change to the map view, click on two random spots on the map, and save your waypoint mission - that‘s it!. Another important thing: in your case you only have one waypoint mission (the one that you created). after a while you may have multiple waypoint missions, and that‘s the part where it get‘s tricky: now you have multiple folder with cryptic names in the waypoint folder, no reference to the name you gave for your waypoint mission! How to find the correct folder from here? Just check the creation date, and then you have it! Hope this helps for the people new to this process (I did this process multiple times, after a while you get used to deal with this strange folder structure 😉 )

@stefanwoermcke682829 күн бұрын
@ no, he is actually getting out flying his drone, marking two spots to create his waypoint mission. The way I do it: sitting in my living room, turning on the controller (and only the controller, NOT the drone), and create the basic waypoint mission with the controller. No need to fly your drone to get this done

A little tip I learnt using a free trail of drone deploy, when the trial runs out it’s only a restriction from imagine processing and on. You can still use the app functionality to plot the flight path, perform the flight path and capture the images, then You can use the images in reality capture.

If I were to buy a drone for this purpose (or a 3D model rather) how would you go about needing to replace a battery through a flight if need be? I’m interested in getting a 3D model of 4-5 acres of land with ~80 feet of elevation change, so should I be concerned of the change in workflow if a battery change is needed? Would that impact the photos/photo-taking process/outcome?

It’s just cresting a DJI KMZ file, and it’s very limited but good for people to know. Map Pilot Pro can do this much much easier for the Mavic 3 Pro, Classic, Air 3, Air 3S and Mini 4. All you do is set to your aircraft in the settings whch will be for export only. I use my iPad to set it up and once you save it the map will be automatically placed in the DJI Fly app. There is no fussing to transfer the file or other stuff to get it into the Wayline Folder. I set up the plan on my iPad and it’s very, very easy. Enjoy.

That might be a question for the software that stitches the images together. It might support multiple folders or a way to combine or rename images into one folder. Since it’s only looking at images I’m guessing it’s just stitching them together and using the parallax differences to come up with the 3D interpretation.
@Toramt9 күн бұрын
These tools do not support interrupting / resuming missions w/battery changes; so you'll have to plan multiple missions to get the coverage then stitch together the resulting images. The stitcher doesn't really care how the images were acquired. If you regularly need missions of that length you're probably in the territory of more purpose-specific drones that have software that can handle multi-stage missions.

@@killerjr1911 DJI can if you allow it, but it depends on how your system is set up, we use mainly large single rotor helicopters for survey they don't connect to the internet at all they use our own inhouse built autopilot system but we also use a couple of DJI drones a huge Flycart for heavy payload surveys and a Matrice for lidar, but we don't connect them to the internet and allow the data to be uploaded to the DJI server. But there is fairly high resolution (5m pixel size) satellite terrain data available from various companies for the whole world anyway, you can just download it, for instance the Japan Space agency (JAXA) has satellite terrain data of the entire planet available for download, 30m resolution is free to download, 5m you have to pay for, and there are various other companies providing similar products.

Maybe you could have mentioned the limitations of this approach, in particular the maximum number of waypoints (which forces you to only have each line edge, leading to the weird wavy flight). Also, those drones don't have a global shutter, so it's nice to remember that you'll have rolling shutter effects that may or may not be an issue depending on cases.

If your able to land the drone in the area your mapping and have easy access to that spot. 2. RTH and swap batteries, this will take more time away from actual mapping. Once back in the air, select the waypoint map and then select the waypoint to start from. It does not need to be the first waypoint. You will end up with some duplicate photos, but the rendering software will not be affected by it.

Interestingly my RC2 controller will not allow me to access the files folder. Can't even access the home screen for the Android OS. Looks like DJI may have locked this one down. I just updated the firmware before trying this so I am wondering if that is why it is different.

Thank you for the video. Great information. I have an older DJI Mavic (M1P). Would it work?

I would use Drone Deploy or Drone Link, it will be way easier!

I've attempted to use this on my Mini 4 Pro but encountered some issues with uploading KMZ files. Specifically, there seems to be no option to access or transfer waypoint missions via the SD card, as the missions are not stored there by default. Could you provide further clarification on how this process works without a dedicated "waypoint" folder? From my research, it appears that waypoint missions are stored within the DJI Fly app rather than on the SD card, which limits the ability to directly manage these files. I even tried formatting the SD card to function as internal storage, but unfortunately, this didn’t resolve the issue. Finally, I’m using the DJI RC 2 controller, so if there are any specific steps or configurations that might apply to this setup, I’d appreciate the guidance. Thanks for any insights you can provide!

Waypoints will be located on the "internal" storage of the smart controller. When you load in your SD card you will need to copy the KMZ file from your SD card to your internal storage on the smart controller. That may be where you are having your holdup.

@@DylanGorman How do you copy the file from the SD card to internal storage on the Mini 4, RC2 controller? The method shown in the video does not work, and connecting the RC2 controller to a computer does not work.
@texanwebbАй бұрын
@@DylanGorman There is not a file labeled "waypoints" in the internal storage unfortunately. You might update your video to exclude the Mini 4 Pro. I see many others are running into the same issue that the Mini 4 Pro does not have that file; and thus, uploading the KMZ file into said file is not possible.

i just tried to install the software for creating the ortho on my machine. Graphics card error!? But the question I wanted to ask is, once a 2d ortho is created in the software, and it be pulled into qgis/ esri software and does it align with proper coordinates? A long time ago I would do quick and dirty orthos in Microsoft ICE, which ignored all aspect geo. Thanks for sharing!

How did you fix the holes that appeared on the roof in the 3D model? I am generating a cesium model and I also get those holes for white color objects.
