I put same caps on my Anafi about a year ago. Red ones. Heat has never been a problem, even on hot summer days. I felt the motors many times after flying. No heat at all. A Fimi x8 I have does get pretty warm. Mavic Pro 2, no heat either. Heat from wife for buying-quite a bit.

Page 20 of the manual: “DO NOT block any of the ventilation holes on the motors or the body of the aircraft.” Based on that, more than likely the warranty is void and DJI care refresh may be impacted also.

DroneLand Hello good Sir, I read the manual and it does say that “do not block any of the ventilation holes...” BUT I did not see or read anything about the warranty of the drone being voided. Can you please confirm this? Also, what about the skins? You read anything about the warranty if you put some skins? Trying to decide if I should buy these covers for my drone.

Couldn't you just unscrew and remove the caps before filling out warranty claim? Since it is kind of on the boarder of voiding/not.

Warranties cover manufacturer fault, not stupid decisions made by the consumer. I would say explicitly ignoring safety/best care warnings to make modifications is a consumer fault, not a manufacture fault.

Good review. I have a Mini 2 and it's weight is actually 237 grams. The caps are 1.6 grams each so adding them does not compromise the weight and living in a dusty/sand environment in the UAE really requires these. Thanks immensely for your thermal input. 👍🏻

I’d pass on this accessory. Learn to hand launch and catch and you don’t need to worry about debris. If there is a debris problem your gimbal needs to be protected as well so again might as well practice to hand launch and catch. It’s not hard. It just introduce higher risk of something on the motor. A slight imbalance. Slight temperature increase. Slight more effort on the motor.

These caps could be a good solution to keep dust and sand grains away from moving parts of the motor. I had recently motor blocking caused by a grain of sand which was stuck between the rotor and the stator. I had luck that the motor was completely blocked after flying and not in the air.

I agree with Allen, the weight can be a large factor. A lot of the reviewers are missing the main point for most of us and that is the overall weight of the drone. Under 250 grams, in Canada, and we can fly anywhere. Over 250 we must register and get a pilot certificate and cannot fly in a lot of areas!

If the weight of the mini exceeds 249 grams after adding these or any other accessories, it then needs to be registered with Transport Canada. As well, once you fall into the next classification it requires you to have a licence and adhere to either basic RPAS licensing restrictions or advanced. For the average person and unlicensed user, this is a big problem.

It is a problem if it goes @250g or over, but if you think about this regulation, does 0.5g or 1g really make the drone immediately more dangerous than it was before that weight that suddenly it's able to take down commercial aircrafts? This regulation is absurd to say the least, they should have more of a rolling weight for classes than an absolute value.

Although the variables are negligible and it may not impact the life of the motors of the drone, there are some undeniable facts. 1 - You are adding weight overall to the drone and resistance to the rotation of motors. Both will in fact use up more power. 2 - You are restricting the possibility of debris from getting in the motor. This will restrict the airflow as well. Although I appreciate you making the video, I believe one could outweigh some of the possible variables. Flurries and/or rain drops, shouldn't really be detrimental to these brushless motors but debris such as dust, dirt & sand will. Landing pads, hand takeoffs & landings, will avoid most of these issues. At the end it would definitely be interesting on getting feedback from an engineer.

The idea to measure the temps sounds good. But you have forgotten to adjust the e-factor on your device. Since infrared meters do a terrible job in ambient temperatures, the results depend very much on the type of surface you are pointing at..... Shiny metal or matt black makes a huge difference, and even does not say anything about the temp of the windings :)

Oh man talk about an underrated channel. I just stumbled across your page. I just got mine in the mail just yesterday (the same covers), and I also shared your original concern. As a fellow DJI Mini pilot... & therefore one of the brotherhood of the air, obviously-😁-I shared your concern of overheat-but that was not the first thought that had struck me… The first one and most immediate, I put them on the scale, they weigh several grams (I was not where at this point that I should probably think about the engines cooling system as the factory builds it; and how can I not impede that systems efficienies; however, today I decided to first add the landing gear that folds up, which we did and worked great lifted like it was nothing. Then added carbon fiber wings... much heavier about double the weight plus like .02 or whatever..... but, much more rigid, much much much stronger. Blades feel like glass, is how I would describe it. If glass were very very very very very hard.. but it could flex JUST A LITTLE BIT...but when you do, you can really bear down on trying to snap one and me nor my girl could get it. Amazing piece of technology... would recommend. I’ve only got a few minutes flight hours on these props but can keep updated if you reply. Appreciate your time and this was an amazingly well planned, written, executed-produced and recorded video, you have amazing quality videos. Love your presentation style and direct delivery. Keep it up, some of that hair still have an appreciation for the proper English language...colloquially speaking, vs literal vs 1st, 2nd and 3rd-person views. the weight margin is so close to 250g that any accessory that you add to it, ie: leg extenders, motor caps, or even a skin will throw it over the 250g limit. @borrero-md1196 3 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. I actually saw a video from another channel where he went through a crash he had with his Mini 2. Long story short: flying with string winds after snowing. Right afther the crash, the motors were not spinning. After a couple tries, they went back in working order. In the end the most likely cause of the crash was moisture building up inside the motors, maybe due to snowflakes being sucked in there. Moreover, the issueis not only when the motors are on, but rather once you turn them off and there's dust/sand/snow or any other kind of dirt drifting about. I'm still concerned about these covers though. Yed he did test it, but not in an escenario where i can see the drone having to force the motors even more than necessary due to those caps (like if there's strong wind or if the temperature outside is really hot)

I think they are a bad idea. As the drone is flying the motors are some what air cooled by the propellers........however, once its landed and not running, the motor heat is "trapped" inside, and not being able to dissipate. Not sure if this will have a long term effect, but most electric motors are air cooled for a reason and NOT to be sealed up. Imagine sealing up your cordless drill.

You're not holding that temperature gun anywhere near close enough. They measure an area bigger than the laser pointer, usually 12" away will average the temperature of a spot larger than 1". The problem with this video is that you removed the propeller screws and didn’t replace with new screws and propellers. The screws that you removed have loctite on them and since you removed them you broke their bond. By putting them back on the drone you now run the chance of having the screws come loose and eventually losing the propeller causing the drone to crash. If you’re going to put those guards, either replace the loctite on the bottom of the screws or have a new set of screws and propellers handy, otherwise great review.

Same, mine just came in and noticed that and decided to search for more info. Seems to be split on whether not they're good or cause issues

Yeah, I just received mine. Went to install them and noticed how much they wiggle... I think I'm going to return these, flying the drone with those being so loose makes me very uncomfortable.

@@Tuur75 or you can clean off the old tips of the screws and reapply with fresh blue Loctite, if you have a tube of it at home. If not you need to use your spare screws given from DJI like you said. :)

Very informative as usual. I know the mavic mini isn't technically "waterproof",, but other than flurries, do you think these will help against rain?
@AirPhotography
@AirPhotography 4 жыл бұрын
I would assume they definitely would help if you get caught in a light drizzle. Others have commented that those types of motors can handle a little bit of moisture regardless.

If you're re-using the screws you've broken the Loctite bond. You're supposed to use the replacement screws.

I wonder what would be the motor coil temperature after the flight ! I think it's the coil that heats up rather than the outer cover ! If you can measure the coil's temperature it would be more helpful ! Thankyou for the video

I bought these. They stopped my props from being able to swing back and forth. So I could not fold my drone anymore. I don't think the holes were big enough to allow the props to move loosely. There is nothing to keep the caps from slopping around. The prop screw is way thinner than the two cap holes so the screw isn't keeping them on, so what else is there? Well it's the bottom of the part of the prop that screws on (the hole on the prop the screw goes through. The props bottom out on the cap holes and it stops the props from swinging back and forth freely to fold the drone.

I think the way to do the test is not like that, do the test by actually flying outside with temperature conditions outside of 30 degrees Celsius I am sure it will be hotter than without a cover ...SALAM UDARA....

You might actually be surprised how freaking hot motors get just hovering. Without the extra wind passing the windings when flying around, things heat up quick, an stay hot.
