Nice comparison, Otto! I have the Mic2's and honestly wish these Mic Mini's were out when I purchased the Mic 2's. Yes, the 32-bit float is nice to have, but I don't think I'll ever have to use it. I've only had audio clip in a couple of instances in the past couple of decades--both at concerts/music festivals but I may not ever go to one again now that I'm older.

Another great video! I ordered the Mic Mini today, but just the mic by itself. I recently have been using my Action 5 Pro with my Mic 1's but I've been so tired of removing the case to use the bulky receiver. I considered the Mic 2's but honestly, I like how the Mic 1's sound better and I didn't want to invest $100 for just a transmitter. I don't need the full feature set as 32 bit float isn't a big deal for me and I never use the internal mic recording or the lavalier mic port. The mini sounds like it'll fit my use case perfectly and from your example I like the sound of it a lot, even with NR on. I was tempted to buy the set but I honestly don't need it. The ability to keep the windscreens on in the case is HUGE though. That's really my only annoyance with the Mic 1. On another note, I really continue to enjoy your gear reviews. You talk calmly and present material really clearly with a good focus on the features I'm most interested in. It's awesome you've been so consistent with your content quality as long as I've watched you! Keep it up.

I recently purchased the Osmo Pocket 3 creative combo kit with the Mic 2 transmitter included. I was about to purchase the additional transmitter and receiver combo with a charging case to have the mic 2 kit. Now with the mini for $169 have to pause and decide which way to go. I will probably still stay with the Mic 2 family because you can add the lavalier mic and make it super discreet. Also the mic 2 sounds a tiny bit better (I might be imagining it though). Having had and used the DJI Mic 2 since it came out, making several videos on feature and flaws (no backup recording while connected via bluetooth to smartphones being the big one, since you can’t then bring just the mic and a phone and record a crappy bt audio track to your video and easily sync and replace it with a decent internal recording later) the Dji Mic Mini is probably the version most people should get, unless one REALLY needs the internal backup recording done internally on the Dji Mic 2’s (most people don’t need it for hobby video, necessary for «pro» use/paid productions). The bluetooth option is unusable anyway on both versions, and *most* people don’t need the 32 bit float quality of the internal dji mic 2 recordings unless they are recording in conditions where audio levels might go from normal to REALLY LOUD (i.e. during football matches or other sporting events, interviewing really exited people or recording audio from speakers who talk *really* loud at times, but then fluctuates between loud and normal volumes). However: if one has a older iphone (with lightning), use a thick case on their phone, or use an android without usb c the Mini is not a really good option, and not the mic 2 either :/

Thanks for sharing. I believe that the Mini will be very useful for most regular users

I’m guessing it’s because the mic and receiver syncs via the case, and the mini won’t fit in the mic 2 case (amongst other things). Also it makes everything simpler for Dji not having to make sure everything works across models (f.ex remaking the software of the dji mic 2 receiver to control settings on the mic mini). The mini is a cheap alternative for beginner content creators and people needing a simple solution, so by not making everything compatible they save time and money, and can focus on getting everything to work with action 4 and 5 pro plus the pocket 3 :)
