Usually the sensors will detect your hand as an object and try dodge it by moving up a little. He was holding the land button while putting his hand underneath.

I use my drone a lot in the Mojave Desert, where the ground is covered in rocks and small boulders, with various small cactus plants all around. Not to mention that sand and gritty dirt can mess up the internals of the drone. This technique could come in very handy in a lot of circumstances.

Ass maneuvers, as it bleeds a bit after u leave commands my fault but I learned the take off and also the landing thanks to yr motivation.... I was scared a bit before... It s not fair u do it on snow!! Anyway the only potential issue is the fingers and panicing for no reason... It s easy just open the hand to signal a new landing destination once it goes up just be ready to catch it as u show. For take off use the screen button or if one does the two finger maneuver I fear it wont understand and think of being still on the ground... I feel safer for take off with button as u know and hear it pumping for detaching, but i guess also double pad crossing and then throw in the air should work havent tried as I dnt wanna risk it but i m still curious. U know... Firmware etc can change drone behavior. Maybe that stick together is better for some action movie otherwise maybe better to couple up the raise command after in order to keep it above ground

I wouldn't recommend actually throwing it. A small lift motion in the air works well or just pushing up on your stick is the safest.

I also use the hand starting and landing since I own this nice drone. But I put the both stick outside down. So I only have to give it a very little push up to let it fly. I‘m just waiting for an activ track for te Mini 2 by DJI (or by Litchi)

@@SeanOzz Nope..not yet..I ordered a android tablet with 3GB ram, octacore 64 bit processor..and 64 gb ....still doesn't work..just a black screen and can see the dji app features..but controller still says "Not connected to device" nor does connect to the mini two..probably coz it wont let me udate firmware either. Someone said connect a USB to USBC cable to controller and tablet..but I don't know how since the controller and device both have the small ends..ugh..I would appreciate anyone who can explain that ..or better yet , post a screen shot of how that works..lol

Here's a good question:. What might that higher, in the air launch point do to the drone's altitude measurement? Will it measure takeoff from it's starting level in the air or actual distance from the ground?

not sure i understand your question but at lower level (sea level) it should take less of a toss to get this to work. you do not have to throw it so much, in the description and comments i posted a link to a video showing more of this and you can just sorta drop them. check it out.

@@SeanOzz As you know, you take off from a valley, your altitude is measured from that point. When you get to a 20 ft. hill peak you may see maybe 15 feet on the drone altimeter reading and crash into the side. So I wonder if when launching up off the ground, by hand, or higher if thrown in the air, if altitude is measured from that point on the air when it takes off.

When u activate the drone that will be the spot it reads height from. So if on a cliff and u go under it shows negative and so forth.

I had a lot of doubts about general altitude system (before having the drone), then yes sure, the drone will count the meters from there where you started. Don't worry if you go up 1 meter or less, of course keep the limit respected always maybe keep it even 1 meter short then max altitude, anyway consider that nothing is precise, it's not manual measures (which also have errors), and the answer is of course that it will start counting from where you hand is.

on the mavic air 2, you can put in sport mode to shut bottom sensor off so its real easy to catch. not sure if it can be done on the mini

If you throw it with force you could mess it up. If you try it u will see you don't have to actually throw it at all. It wants to fly with even the slightest movement.

No need for a landing pad anymore, or..? PS. Would it be possible, in case of a low battery RTH, to shut the motors down so it does a free fall and then to turn on the motors again? Hmmm. very very risky. Maybe nice to try in the middle of nowhere one day in case you once have a old drone.

I’ve not used one in many years. I have seen others shut off the motors and turn it back on but you have to be pretty high to have time.
