I didn’t find this clear at all. Around 1:40 you say operator ID is required! 1:51 you say the mini 2 was released prior to CAA classification. So the mini 2 is exempt because these rules came out afterwards??

Classification is a new system that has not yet been implemented by the CAA. We are still flying under the old rules and Operator ID is required to be displayed on the drone.

Hi just bought a couple of what I would call toy drone but as new to drones they were cheap on tiktok. The first one a maverick clone the e58 drone and a micro drone the xd1 both toys but with cameras. I did not know you needed operator I'd for these thanks for the info where do I get the Id from to put on the drones? Thanks for the info video cheers

I wish someone could help me with this as I don't know if I'm being incredibly thick. I have done the test paid for the Operator ID all from my dji mini2 app on my iphone yet my screen is still all oranged out and it keeps asking me to register for operator id. Can't fly paid money very P---ed off. What am I doing wrong. Do I need to enter ID somewhere. Thanks.

So what your saying is that a drone with a camera needs to get a £9 license so that means EVERYONE with a phone with a camera built inside needs to gat a fuckin license turn it in will ya do we live in China 🇨🇳

A car number plate has only 7 figures in the UK the operator ID has 19 characters i'm sure there's more cars than drones here, got my OID and FID. love the mini 2

What about toys with cameras on them some people may ask but really they don't work properly outside they really are indoor drones if you take them outside the wind can destroy it most of these are micro drones

Got my operator ID the day my mini 2 arrived , none of my friends have any drones just use it for family stuff and to go out on local field to have some fun , it was a personal choice why I didn’t take flyer ID , I can always take it at anytime I want to if I choose to continue with drone , just don’t feel you need to take it if you don’t want is what I’m saying , it’s entirely up to you . Great video to help ppl navigate if they need a flyer ID for mini 2 as the website can be very confusing for ppl .

Great info. I applied for my operator and flyer ID over a year ago for my mini one even though i didn’t need it at the time but figured it was only £9 a worth having if I wanted to upgrade. This video is great because so many people struggle with the new rules. I’ve subscribed 👍

If you plan on using your drone for personal/hobbyist use then quite simply, you do not need a drone licence. If you don't plan on selling the imagery or using it for commercial gain then a licence is not necessary.8 Dec 2020

Wrong. If your drone weighs 249gms or less and has a camera, you must have an operator ID. At 250gms or over, you require a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. If you want to be able to fly anywhere other than open countryside and away from uninvolved people, you will need to take and pass the A2 C of C course or join one of the model aircraft clubs, such as the BMFA or FPVUK and fly under Article 16. This is the law and it doesn’t matter whether you are flying as a hobbyist or for commercial reasons. Accept it!

It should be kept confidential for authorized persons only to view the details other wise will go against data protection laws, gdpr etc If they make position available public then your more at risk of having your gear pinched and scum would take advantage of it..

To me the rules are a bit of a contradiction as it states under 250g you need a operators id and not a fly id,but an operators id don't allow you to fly a drone it's just an owner's id, so then you need a fly id to be able to fly your drone.

The caa site is unclear. It suggests if the drone is labelled as a toy it’s exempt from both. But your saying if it has a camera it needs an operator ID? My drone is under 250g, labelled as a toy on the box but also has a camera. CAA site suggests I don’t need any license but I think I might need operator license. Does this sound right?

The law is unclear if you consider it to be a toy then you do not need one I consider my mini 2 to be a toy Therefore no licence if it is not a toy than it does

I have both and have done pfvuk's test (both flier I'd and fpvuks test are idiot proof, so easy) fpvuk £20 a year membership also includes £5m public indemnity insurance, also if you get a bigger drone you can fly it under article 16.. well worth doing..

Hey. Actually, it doesn't. Also, the Mini 2 comes a few grams under the 250g limit so it would be no problem anyway. Hope this helps!

It's not the DJI mini drone 2 it's the first one DJI Mavic mini drone think I need to register the drone as it has a camera on it but it is not the DJI mini 2 drone I think it's a very first DJI mini drone just found it all very confusing

You need an operator ID no matter which mavic mini you have , you do not need a flyer ID unless your going to fly a bigger model ( over 250 grams ) . Hope this clarifies it

Thank you for the information, I’m a recently beginner drone flyer and I didn’t know realise you needed a operator ID, I bought my drone while out of the UK, but there was no mention requiring operating ID for it, but I guess UK Aviation laws are different when comes to flying drones.. I’ve registered and taken the exam, 36 correct out of 40 and took me 8 minutes to do it, but what is the £9 fee for? but I have my operator ID now…
