And this is the exact reason I switched to the Avata. The mini 3 pro is awesome until a collusion. Mine hit a tree branch in while orbiting, which in fairness, was my fault, but basically the same thing happened. It got all confused trying to recover and ended up upside down, blades just chopping away until I forced the motors to stop. It’s hard to say how much more damage it caused by this but the end result was 4 blades ruined and one of the arm joints compromised to the point that it had to be sent in for repair. The Avata on the other hand has gone down twice with no issues post crash. Once by a flag that decided to wave last minute and once by my dog snatching it out of the air mid flight. Anyway, I love your videos!

I feel you. Crashed my mini 3 pro the first day. Accidentally hit a tree branch while flying sideways and the drone was absolutely destroyed. Gimbal was pretty much ripped out of the drone, props were broken, two arms broke and the casing of the drone separated as well. Most of the damage likely happened as the drone was falling inside the tree before hitting the ground. Luckily I had DJI care and was back up and running in less than a week. However, I know now that if this drone hits anything it will likely be destroyed because it is frail. Crashed the original mini a few years ago and only had to replace a prop from the extras in the box. DJI care is a must with the Mini 3 Pro because the gimbal and arms are just fragile.

@Dustin Dunnill I was at first impressed by the drone review, but first crash in low speed going up in to a tree and it broke, in your electric bike review. So I will keep using my Mavic Air for now, because I have not found a good replacement, with that good build quality as the compact Mavic Air. The Mini 3 Pro seems to be a weak construction 😟 I have the old (discontinued) Dji Mavic Air and have crashed it several times up, in to trees, forward in to bushes in sport mode and other pretty hard crash scenarios I don't even remeber. No cracks or damages to the drone what so ever.. Once I replaced one propeller due to it "looked" a little bent and scratched. But other than that, no damage to the drone or the "arms" and propellers.

Very important information for anyone considering a purchase of the DJI Mini 3 Pro. It looked like the drone 'lost its mind' and just flew right into the structure. Very disappointing for this drone to have such buggy obstacle avoidance. Since this definitely appeared to be the result of a bug or defect please let us know how DJI handles the warranty repair as that could impact a decision to purchase this model. Prob due to the bypass setting, I’d much rather use the stop feature or turn it off completely and be extra careful before moving. Also gotta keep in mind when flying close to slanted roofs or walls you’ll get some really weird downdrafts off the props and can cause the drone to become pretty unstable.

I'm glad DJI replaced your drone. Despite the "incident" I found the video very helpful. I've crashed my mini 3 pro twice due to stupidity doing orbits to close to trees knowing I didn't have side sensors and my worst outcome seems very similar to yours where I hadn't had refresh I ordered a hinge on ebay and replaced it at the arm base in under five minutes. Cost was 20 bucks and also 2 props. I see alot of people both complaining about how they could of put side sensors on but that would have indefinitely put the drone over 250 grams which to stay underweight they would have had to make the drone even more "flimsy", I don't beleive myself that it's any type of marketing ploy just takes alot of engineering to stuff all of that into a lightweight drone and with the introduction of new forms of materials coming out im sure they will get there. Sorry for rambling, again, great and informative videos are what keep me coming back so thanks again for that. Keep up the great work.

Pretty tough conditions with the extreme sun & shadows, along with a very irregular 'foot print" ( compared to say, a single story ranch home). Don't you have a Mavic 3 pro which DOES have 360 deg. Only trouble is that ONE time when the OA freaks out that will cost you dearly. DJI REALLY needs to sell replacement arms for a reasonable price. Its a hollow square tube made of plastic. Maybe one day we'll see some 3D printed or aftermarket replacement arms with plastics similar to what like RPM Racing uses in there almost unbreakable and slightly flexible plastic parts.. I had an almost identical situation as you with my new Mini 3 Pro. It dropped maybe 5ft and it flipped over and the propellers kept spinning and pretty fast and it caused three of the motor arms to crack. And now that i see them broken and inside, its just a hollow piece of plastic. its a $10 part that totals the whole drone.. Hopefully DJI honors my replacement request because its been less than 30 days, but if that doesn't go as planned for some reason.. I didn't really want to use one of my DJI Care Refresh Drone Replacement, just for arm replacements. I see yours look like it might have broke at the hinge, which is a seperate part, but replacing the arms when your motors are still fine, should be a relatively reasonable cost option to buy seperately or have them replaced by DJI if they won't allow you to work on it. I'm used to my other RC Drones and RC trucks/cars/planes, where every part is basically replaceable and that's how you keep it going. So the company makes plenty of money in replacement parts.

Something was definitely off with the drone having that high altitude warning. But, I don't think anyone should be using obstacle avoidance for such simplistic work anyways. If you were flying through tight spaces, tunnels, etc yeah. But, you're inspecting the gutters and roof. The drone should just hover most of the time. Also it would help if you kept VLOS on the drone too. Can't see everything if you're just staring at the screen 100% of the time.
@thriftysurvivor6117 Жыл бұрын
There are two ways for you to get closer, on would be to turn off obstacle avoidance or you can keep obstacle avoidance on and approach sideways then pan around to get a look at what you've gotten closer to. Personally, I'd prefer to just turn off obstacle avoidance as to not have to approach an object blindly. Now with my Air 2 it's safer to come in sideways since you can pan the camera without panning the drone which allows you to see if you're getting to close to an object. Sorry to see you crashed your drone. I recently crashed my Air 2 as I was flying low over trees, but since the leaves were all gone the obstacle avoidance didn't see a branch. After the drone hit the branch, it was still hovering so I tried to fly up and continue flying but it hit a branch that was above it which caused to fall 70 feet to the ground. I guess I should have backed out in stead. The damage was pretty extensive so given the new FAA regulations I decided to just replace it with a Mini 3 Pro. Hope your replacement goes smoothly. Thanks for sharing.

@@DustinDunnill Please do. I think the initial reaction i am getting from people is the Avata as an outdoor action drone is not ideal for it, but i think in a pinch it's would be the best option for close quarters like in a crawl space or attic because the guards will protect the propellers + turtle mode can flip it if i accidentally crash it and not easily able to reach. Is my understanding correct?
@DustinDunnill6 ай бұрын
Correct. But it needs a few feet to relaunch, so relaunching in something like a crawl space may not work if it crashes in tight boxed in areas.

This drone brought many improvements, but it is DJI's frailest ever... So I recommend the guys, if they want to fly indoors, or close to many obstacles like the one in the video, I strongly recommend the propeller protection kit and gimbal protector, the only gimbal protector on the market is quite big, and it weighs 15g and to make matters worse, it covers the highest view, I recommend making one with double-sided glue and hard paper or plastic, or 3d (3g, without disturbing anything) just as a second layer of protection. Otherwise, expect the punch in your wallet sooner rather than later. Wallet

That’s really unfortunate that you crashed the mini 3 pro I noticed that you said you had to return the first mini 3 pro because of some jello issues. I have also had some issues with my mini 3 pro getting jello. But it seems that it is only an issue when the wind is blowing strong and when I turn the drone around and the wind is blowing towards the side of the gimbal. Then it gets jello. I also have the mini 3 non pro and I have the same issue with it. But when the wind is calm I get great video footage with both mini 3 and mini 3 pro. I think it’s just something to do with the design of the gimbal. DJI should have used the same design as on the mini 2 in my opinion. I have never had any jello with it or any problems after two years of flying it. I am getting the same distance with both mini 3 and mini 3 pro. The the pro has Ocysync 3 and the non pro has ocusync 2 but the non pro has 2 antennas. So maybe that’s why I get the same range results. I do get longer flight times with the non pro Must be the senors on the pro using extra battery power. Same result with air 2 and air 2s. Hopefully DJI will send you a new one. I ordered a gimbal guard that protects the gimbal while in flight I thought maybe it would help reduce the wind from blowing on the gimbal and stop jello. Hopefully that works. It’s on order so I’ll know soon.

I disagree actually. I think we get a bit ahead of ourselves cause we have RC hearts 😅 a drone is a tool specifically an m3pro is a camera and it is used to get in places that we can not as humans. There is no home inspection reason to fly the drone without direct LoS which would allow you to disable obstacle avoidance and really butt that baby up to some unique positions with your true human eyes as support. Ofc relying on competence but you obv have that part handled. All in all - you would not have crashed if you werent relying on obstacle avoidance but still using the drone to substitute a ladder! I think I’m going to wait until the 4 is out and hopefully they will have fixed all these bugs on this drone. DJI seem to be just like Apple, where the technology is there but they keep you hanging for the next model. The mini 3 pro could easily have sideways sensors built into it but they seem very greedy (I guess they’re a business at the end of the day but just pure greed) I’ll stick with my mini 2 and trust myself. Best way to fly because I believe that learner flyers will get complacent and rely on these sensors too much - which is fine if you’re flying at your home or whatever but I wouldn’t want a beginner flying over my kids and not having a clue as to where their drone is or if something bad is about to happen.

@readygetsetjam8024 nah, I crashed my phantom 4 like 10 times and ge was flying as good as new

@@justaguyfromreddit I've had 2 phantom 4s and from 30ft to the ground something is definitely broken. Actually smaller lighter drones are less likely to break.

This is a lesson and drone 101 do not inspect your house with your drone. Let a company do it. They probably won’t replace or fix your drone because they have the flight records like you said before the remote submits flight records so they know what you were flying and how you were flying it.

Alas they sent a new one because DJI saw the flight records and determined the obstacle avoidance failed. Inspect your home yourself and learn something while you're at it I say 🍻

The mini 3 pro sucks lmao. Should of got the mavic 3 pro and use the 3x or 7x zoom for home inspection. It wouldnt have ended up like this.

Defective product so DJI should replace or reimburse you. The evidence is clear
