I found it useful, but I have had issues under 500m if standing closed to high trees or tree lines I cant move away from. Even in open areas where a line of trees will kill the signal if not going higher. I normally work in the 5-15m height, when filming atletes on bikes, runners ans so on. Going 1500m away is not really something useful, maybe in the mountains.

so I'm just curious about... why does the signal to the controller matter for quality of content if you are using a micro sd to record everything on the drone? I didn't think that recorded quality was dependent on signal strength in any way whatsoever. Just asking.
@ihackyourtoaster30212 жыл бұрын
What's good about DJI drones, apart from the signal strength which some peoeple may say are questionable, is how safe they are even if you can't really see them. I've flown drones "dangerously" over the years but I've never lost one due to loss of control. Knowing how to use RTH has done wonders and has saved me thousands of dollars as these things can literally fly by themselves back to you. Who care how far they can fly if they can't come back, amirite?

Great video! It's true that going that far is in most cases useless but as a consumer I can also be disappointed since the capability of this drone is not as advertised from DJI.
@NavdeepSingh-bt2cc2 жыл бұрын
Honestly speaking achiving this kind of performance tells us how far we have progressed as humans in the trchnology. Think its that tiny and still u get the video with that little remote ans drone. Scientifically speaking its very hard to maintain. So, i would say this drone can easily do what is advertised in the forests where there is no wifis and giant mobile sim towers.
2 жыл бұрын
DJI used to only advertise range capabilities etc. in the FCC (U.S.) system, which does allow for 8-10km range. Whereas the EU has way more stricter guidelines in their CE system, which only allows for around 2-3km range. You can notice that they started to advertise what the range is in FCC, CE etc. for the new Avata drone, because I guess people complained that the way they used to advertise this stuff wasn't quite fair and transparent.
@oscarfellenburg7112 жыл бұрын
What the problem is .. because of weak signal I can’t take my mini 3 beyond a small hill when it descends out of direct line of signal . So maybe you don’t need 10 miles but with this which is possible on the North American and Canadian drones FCC , where as we get a weaker signal in Europe . I was really disappointed and if I knew before buying my mini 3 , I may not have bothered . Since it’s no extra distance than the mini 2 . Sometimes I’d like to get footage of inaccessible places that the advertised distance is needed to get the drone to these isolated spots . So yes in my view we need a stronger signal .
@oscarfellenburg7112 жыл бұрын
I think DJI should make it clear in the advertising that if you fly your mini 3 or any other dji drones with supposed up to 10 miles or what ever , But fly in England and your very lucky to get 1500 m with a useable signal with out lag. Also where I live in on my estate I’m lucky to get just 300 m with all the interference . I don’t understand what the different laws are as if you have a spotter you can legally fly as far as you want . Well that’s how I understand it .
@oscarfellenburg7112 жыл бұрын
@@NavdeepSingh-bt2cc wow your very lucky , where are you flying as in England and everywhere apart from North America and Canada like me you will get around 1600 m in an environment with virtually no interference . Personally I fly in an area where there all allot of small islands so I enjoy going long distance to capture it all all...but...to each their own. Farthest I've flown the Mini 3 is 5km over a river over these islands (FCC version) as here in Canada we are allowed with sub 250g drones and great reception. Full bars all the way. Cheers

I totally agree with you about cinematic video's yet it eould be nice to have a bit more range. My proximity to the Canadian rocky mountains makes you realize that distance is relative, big open spaces and distance becomes an issue. While range isn't always important the strength and stability of the signal is so it depends on where and what you like to document in your video.
@marvinmcdonald66172 жыл бұрын
No one really flies that far anyway. I'm not worried, but in the urban scenario I guess flying higher can give you a little bit more range. For wide open spaces I don't really have an answer except "VLOS". The fact that these drones can exceed 2km is already a wonder all its own so I guess I would already be happy with that and not push the "short range" button repeatedly.

Hello, first of all I clarify that I am a follower of your channel and I like your videos. On this occasion, I strongly disagree that it is "boring" to fly in a straight line from one point to another. In any case it is "your personal opinion", it is not a truth to affirm. Personally, I really like the "long range" to take the drone to the limit of its possibilities, but this requires a special technique that very few people manage to master. The "long range" is another category and you can't mix the one that flies over close objects with the one that performs "long range", they are very different techniques. Other concepts are necessary for such practice., therefore, something that has to be planned, studied, understood, known to react in an emergency, etc. cannot be boring (in my humble opinion). Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

I have had a thought on these range tests. Some don’t make it back because of battery. Well looking at the shape of the drone it occurred to me that the drone may actually more streamlined in reverse, and maybe it could go further, easier going backwards. Just as flying sideways must create the most drag. Perhaps a test for this may assist those drone pilots who seem doomed on the way back, maybe it could save the day. A test showing a range test in reverse vs forward may establish an important drone action to perform on returns.

XENON SKY here on YT flies his Mini 3 Pro 10 km out and back, with the stock RC. Limited by battery, not signal. He stands on top of a one story roof, maybe 3m above ground. The pilot‘s immediate surroundings seem to be what‘s limiting range more than anything else. Choose wisely, my friend, before posting range tests … The advertized 12 km range seem accurate to me. I recently had to do some cinematic footage 2.2 km away and it worked fine until M3P flew behind the monument where it enaged RTH. CE mode.

@thomasmartinez93932 жыл бұрын
So please be honest folks… It's not a question of "what's enough for me" or "it's boring to fly in one direction". Please take a closer look at your mini packaging, what DJI has printed on it in big letters: 8km CE, 12km FCC. Therefore the standard argument of the law-abiding KZbinrs and DJI-fanboys with the legal situation and the mandatory line of sight is formally correct but basically outrageous in this case: If DJI promises these ranges and advertises this product with these exorbitantly high numbers, then it must at least partially correspond to reality. Like every other drone they released in the past was able to achieve the advertised range and in some cases even exceeded it. The Mini 3 has been proven to reach only a tiny fraction of the advertised value. And please: even if you don't fly 8km away, it's completely logical that the signal strength would be much better over short distances if the advertised range would be actually achieved, right?

Very pretty for choppy video. Would like to know settings and filters you use for your shots.

I am intending to buy a DJI 3 Drone. As I paraglide as a hobby can I get a wrist control for my drone as with airdog ? the simple device that you can change the height and circle around you.

I'm pretty sure someone will find a way to use fcc mode instead of ce in europe, fcc mode surely has lower dropouts?

Checking my flight log on my mini 3 pro's controller, i've got 9200 meters and a couple of 6500 meters.

Range is bad,when you fly low the signal is not good. If Dji didn't said it would fly 8 km in CE ,there would not be a problem . What you are telling here is not correct. You Just want a good relationship with DJI for future drones. If you are one of the first to test the DJI Avata then I know I'am right 😏 Is not all about views and money.

Hi mate, I tried a distance test last week on my beach in North Wales (over 2 1/2 miles long) I managed to get 2077 meters and got laggie, I was on a cliff and took the drone down so it was about 30meters from sea level. At least I know the safe range... As you said in your video, there's no point in flying it this far. Best to keep it close for the better quality shots. Great video as always... I do have an issue and like to contact you personally.. Is this possible please.

hey men! just sum advice, if u can look at your home point from the drones camera, u are doing it good. if u cant see urself from the drones camera, u are flying too low ur . u wanna make sure nothing is interupting ur rc signal. my range went from

I guess it's hit and miss. I just seen a video and the guy went 27,000 feet. 5 miles. No interruption on his feed.

That's great, that means if I climbed to the top of Twin Peaks with my controller, but forgot my drone at home in Glen Park (San Francisco), I can call the wife and have her put the drone on the balcony and fly it to myself.

No where near 10 miles as advertised by DJI. A lot of us want to go far that's why we shelled out over $1,000 bucks

I think if you in Europe and some other countries you locked to CE. Where I am is FCC although RC controller sometimes switches to CE for some reason. 3-4km is average in urban for me with still strong signal and full bars did push it on one occasion to 6km could go even further but had to come back nearly lost drone as battery depleted so fast (plus one) FCC really makes difference in signal stability and strength

I flew my mini 3 to some wind turbines in the sea on holiday 3 miles had no problems but there was no interference but I totally agree with you it gets bloody boring lol but overall its a brilliant drone and like you say how far do you need to go because you want the quality feedback. As usual Darren great video I take it you'll be grabin the new dji avatar 😁👍👌 🇬🇧

thank you mate, yes the drone is awesome and I managed to capture some great footage with it, I never to a-b flying in the straight line but I did get some great use of all this drones features ! Glad you enjoying it too !

is there a feature on the DJI mini 3 pro that lets you know whether or not you have enough battery to return to home if you are a great distance from the original homepoint. thank you.

When the range is soooo farrrr away from VLOS, I wonder why people ask about long range so much. I want strong signal because I fly around trees, canyons, etc. This drone has OS3, so the whole question is pointless to me. It's good!

Apologies if I missed it in the video, but is part of this due to reduced radio power in the non-US models? I'm seeing videos here in the US with people easily reaching the 3 mile, (about 4,800 meters) distance, and I frequently go two miles (about 3200 meters) with few issues.

awesome video Darren, just a question, i also got my all day freewell NDs the one you recommended, when flying with the NDs do you still put it in normal colour mode or the cine-lite mode?
@DMProductions2 жыл бұрын
Hey I use d-cine the most but you can use them with either

I flew yesterday over open fields 1000 metres on full signal, started to turn to return & completely lost signal to drone??? Luckily flew back! Worrying though! Great video, very informative 👍
