DJI Mini 4 Pro EU / CE practical range test low winds + precision landing test

A new range test, this time with low winds and more space to travel. Battery was not at 100%, might be because it was charged a day earlier (or due to the fact it is still new with only 1 charge cycle).
At the end I also test the precision landing feature.
Footage was shot in DlogM with color correction preview on the screenrecording, so the video might seem a bit bland.
I am impressed with the signal, even with red bars, it still held a good connection allowing a video feed and control over thr drone (no sudden drop out, which I did experience occainsionally with my mini 2).

As I was watching your video. I watched your compass in the bottom corner of the screen. If you notice the little blue arrow in the center of the compass is showing the drone. And the yellow dot is your home point. You also have a blue-green dot that has a tiny arrow on it. But you can’t see it because you are standing too close to the home point. It’s better to step away from the home point about 5-10 feet so you can see the position of your controller. That little tiny arrow should always be pointing directly towards the drone. If you notice you were not pointing directly towards your drone. According to the arrow the drone is heading towards the east and you are pointing the controller towards the south east. When you are directly in line with the drone the controller dot will turn green. When you are out of line with the drone it will turn blue. That’s to help you get the best signal strength possible. Hopefully this helps with any future flights and range testing.

Могу вас огорчить,зелёный или синий кружочек со стрелочкой это не положение контроллера управления(пульта),по другому направление антенн,а положение вашего смартфона,относительно полёта дрона.Вот почему надо перед полётом калибровать компас на смартфоне.Вы наверное заметили,что эта стрелочка ни всегда ровно направлена на дрон при взлёте.Так вот,компас смартфона немного кривоват по сравнению с обычным компасом.Ещё мной замечено,что летая на дальняк,пульт надо поворачивать немного в сторону и тогда связь становится лучше.Это говорит о том,что искривление магнитных силовых линий земли влияют на прямолинейность сигнала,тоесть сигнал искривляется как сабля.И если учитывать всё это вместе взятое,то кружочек со стрелочкой не 100% ориентир эффективного напрвления антенн пульта. При полёте на 8-9 км. по идеальной прямой,мне всегда приходится искать правильное положение пульта при очередном ухудшении сигнала,в результате наилучший сигнал,когда пульт параллелен земле и немного развёрнут влево(это в моём случае),то есть по вашему он вообще смотрит в сторону.Заметьте,при этом ваш зелёный кружочек устойчиво горит синим,а стрелка показывает не на дрон.Если летать на малые расстояния 1-3 км. или вокруг себя,то этот способ идеален,чтобы определить местоположение дрона.Всегда перед взлётом калибруйте компас на смартфоне.Удачи.

I was looking at this and the Air 3. I'm so glad I got this one. I will eventually get the Air as I would like a bigger one for the really windy days. It was about 24mph winds today and I was doing a rooftop inspection. The Mini 4 was being pushed around but I still managed to get the footage I needed

Nice one!!! I did the same test with my Mini Pro 4, on a windy day. It still performed really well for such a light device. I can't fault the Mini Pro 4.

Heb zelf ook de M4P met FCC patch.maar over bewoond gebied valt de range nog tegen.iets beter dan de M3P . Je zou denken met occusync 4 en de extra antennes dat t veel verschil maakt. Bij mij iets van 600 meter extra

Does the return to home trigger point take wind into account? It was interesting to see only about 34% of the battery was needed to return.

Thanks, it's good to see in practical full flight and not just a highlight reel, this is what I wanted to see. How do you capture the RCII controller video with all the UI and telemetry, is that done with the SD card on the controller?

Sorry for the late reply. Yes it's a screen recorder that comes installed on the controller. At the time of filming the video was saved to the internal memory, but could be transfered to SD. I'm expecting that there will be a firmware fix making it able to save to SD directly though haven't checked lately due to terrible weather here in NL.

@@jhhobby1980 Thanks for getting back, I had totally forgotten there was a pull down menu on the RCII and was trying to find this in the app menus. I searched the forums and found this, very strange that DJI makes the access to the RCII screen capture so complicated. I figured while I'm practicing and reviewing my work the telemetry would probably be good to have, if not just to decrease my quick info scan time while operating.

Heb sinds korte tijd ook de Dji mini 4 pro. Echter als ik +- 800 meter van de plek verwijderd ben en +- 120m hoogte zet is het signaal al zwak. Andere plekken ook geprobeerd zelfde situatie. Enig idee wat dit kan zijn?

Ik heb geen spijt van de upgrade, al moet ik zeggen dat de mini 2 nog steeds een mooie drone is waar je ook hele mooie beelden mee kan maken. Ik upload de komende dagen nog wat vakantiefilmpjes van mijn mini 2. Mocht je nog specifieke vragen voor me hebben, dan weet je me te vinden. Kijk ook nog even mijn andere range test in de bebouwde kom, daar zie je dat het signaal (en daarmee de afstand) wel sterk wordt beinvloed door de aanwezigheid van wifi, maar in mijn beleving wel beter functioneert dan de mini 2)

@@jhhobby1980 Ik vind de MIni2 nog altijd een topdrone, en ben er supertevreden van. Ik gebruik de mini2 vooral voor volgen van sport (waterpsort) en RC-zwevers. Die autotrack en botsingssensoren zouden hiervoor een grote verademing zijn voor me, ik vlieg nu 100% manueel en botsingen zijn nooit uit te sluiten, ik ben wel supervoorzichtig maar hierdoor maak ik niet altijd de beste beelden. De 4 zou me toelaten van veel lager en van veel dichter objecten te volgen. De hoogte sensor van de mini2 werkt niet helemaal goed boven water, waardoor ik niet echt laag durf te gaan. De mini4 zou ook veel beter tegen wind bestand zijn (alhoewel de 2 al super is). Heb je hier ervaring mee ? en de mini4 zou sneller zijn. Ik zie in sportsmode op YT snelheden tot 65km/h, daar waar de mini2 max 45 haalt. zou ivm vliegen in wind (watersport) voor mijn toepassing top zijn. Ook het geïntegreerde scherm spreekt me enorm aan... Op papier toch allemaal heel goede verbeteringen voor mijn toepassingen... De connectie van de mini2 valt soms weg bij me, niet erg maar lang genoeg om een bewegend object te verliezen als je het probeer te volgen. Ik hou je kanaal in de gaten... ben benieuwd naar meer ervaringen !

Mooi filmpje. Goed bereik ook in ce mode met de rc2. Heb je ook een idee hoe het bereik is in de bebouwde kom met veel huizen en interferentie?

Nee nog niet getest maar als het weer het toestaat wil ik deze week nog wel een testvlucht maken. Met mijn mini 2 was het rond 1km volgens mij, op basis van mijn vluchten dusver verwacht ik van de mini 4 een stuk meer.

@@jhhobby1980 ben benieuwd twijfel zelf nog tussen de mini 4 met rc2 of rc n2 controller. Aangezien de rc n2 op fcc kan en dus beter signaal in bebouwde kom met veel interventie. Maar misschien vol staat de rc2 ook doormiddel van zijn ocusync 4

I heb nog niet veel gevlogen met deze accu's, dus het zou ook nog wat beter kunnen worden als ze een paar laad en ontlaad cycli hebben doorlopen. Maar ik denk dat je ook geen wonderen kan/mag verwachten van dit type lichte drones. De accu's voelen ook echt alsof het dummy's zijn, zo licht zijn ze. Al met al voor de vluchten die ik maak volstaat 20-25 min wel. Dan stop ik even en verwissel ik de accu gewoon.

Same, here; see my urban range test. I did find that the loss of signal was much more predictable compared to the mini 2 at least, where the signal was completely lost in a matter of seconds. Did,'t push it to the limit due to high wind speeds. In my opinion it far enough though for my use.
