The x4 is my go to camera atm. I love it because I focus on what I am doing, not what I’m shooting. Reframe in post if I catch anything good.. it’s perfect for what I’m using it for. I can always put it in a nice 4k action mode if I want better quality. Not to mention bullet time is really kewl with this thing.. lol but really.. it’s just a one size fits all camera.. and if I need a camera that is static.. I have action cams too.

Well, for me, OP3 + OA4 is the best combination choice. I don't find - again, for me - too much value in these 360 videos. As for being present in the family videos too, I think that OP3 with the active tracking does a great job plus, I can leave it on a tripod and not having it always in my hands. @@shivamnandiofficial same, as vlog camera I would prefer DJI osmo 3, or action 4 if budget won't allow the osmo 3, but to be honest it's still a hard decision for me to choose, like I live in mountain area, it's always rainy and wet, + I am more interested in filming nature, especially the underwater ecosystem, planning to start spearfishing, so I need a camera that: 1- waterproof 2- good image quality 3- survives the heats and the colds 4- eazy to use 5- compact So I will wait for DJI action 5 and go pro max, then I will make my decision.

@@kingofdarknes2505 agreed!! Coz osmo is not waterproof and fragile… i chose dji action 4… really liking its performance and versatility. The only issue is that these camera are not useable in the dark - a point many influencers conveniently skip. Iphone or fast focus lens with dslr is then a better option.

OA4 is very reasonably well priced at the moment 👍 It can produce very nice image compared to Insta360 cameras like the Ace Pro or X4. Insta360 looked too digital in most situations. X4 starting price tag is also a major turn off 😑

For me the image quality just isn’t up to par. The insta 360 has this combination of distortion and degradation that is not visually satisfying. It just feels like it’s 4 years behind. However, action 4 definitely feels like the sweet spot value wise, with the added benefits of weather proofing and small form factor.

Firstly, thanks for exploring the sharpness settings in the X4. While I understand the concept of shooting low sharpness first then adding sharpness in post, I'm not sure that it's the right approach with the X4, as it may lose detail as well as sharpness when set low, and that might not be recoverable later. And adding sharpness in post might add even more to the longer post production time that any 360 camera will require. Generally, I think it comes down to a choice between a 360 camera, for the advantages that 360 videography can bring, and an action camera - and while the X4 can't beat a non-360 camera in every aspect of picture quality, I don't think that there is another consumer 360 camera which could beat it at the moment. So that choice is kind of easy. For those not wanting 360 features, it's a bit harder as there are many action cameras out there and the choice between them isn't so simple. I particularly liked what you said about family occasion shooting with the X4 (ideally in reasonable light). Indeed, it's great to be able to capture everything, without having to miss the occasion due to having your eyes glued to a viewfinder or screen. With a 360 camera it's almost like having a time travel portal to enjoy years later as if you were there.

Happy OP3 and OA4 user. I'd really want to like the X4 but maybe it's the way i'm used to shot videos, the X4 looks like more for a "passive" user (allow me the expression) and all shots i ever seen from X4 don't give me that feeling i'd like to get from a video. In my opinion X4 is good for occasional scenes in a video, just for the "wow" effect, not for the entire video. I have the feeling that an entire video shot on X4 would be somewhat "boring" with all that fisheye distortion (which you cannot eliminate without losing tons of image quality). Don't know... mixed feelings.

For the X4, there is option on the screen to choose the FOV (Mega, Max or DeWarp) and the latter will give you no distortion. But I agree, if the IQ of the X4 was on par with the Action 4, then there would be a clear choice for me to choose the X4. As it stands, I am undecided which to get. The X4 has multiple shooting opportunities with reframing etc and it's the more "fun" option, but it also require more editing afterwards to get the desired effect.

The OA4 is far better in term of resolution, it's a true 4K no a 2.x K resolution from reframing Insta x4 8K.

love both cameras! But I feel like the X4 is actually a better deal cause the single-lens mode can do 4K as well. Can't agree more about being the photographer in the family haha! I actually bought my X4 because of the same purpose, to be able to capture everything is more valuable when you come back to those footages 10 years later...

I am looking for a compact travelling camera and these two cameras fit perfectly. I don't use this cameras for jumping on the airplane, riding motorbike, vlogging etc. but mostly for my personal travels and have great memories. To be honest. The footage of the X4 looks like it came from a camera from 2010. If you don't need 360 degree shots, you're even better off with a better no name cam.

The latest scandal about Insta 360 is the photo on their KZbin community page showing how the X4 can be used to capture an upskirt photo of a young woman. While i confess that i have caused offence with a couple of my videos - and taken them down - I really think it is unacceptable for a company like Insta to be posting such stuff, especially as their reputation has already been damaged by the sponsorship controversy. It really makes me wonder about continuing to be a customer....
