I was just about to order Freewell VND and my brain unconsciously searched for the terms on youtube.

Thanks for this video Cameron. I was just about to buy the PGY Tech Variable filter for my Pocket 3 and I was wondering if it suffered from the dreaded Xing. You have saved me from disappointment with your video, so once again, many thanks and a great review video 🙂

I try to avoid vnd for small devices, I have one but for my Sony a7iv I purchased a freewell nd64 with cpl for the pocket 3, makes me think that's gonna be better than vnd, still waiting though When you showed both takes side by side I preferred much more freewells look

yeah, freewell has a good look! I have the freewell VND for my A7sIII. Iʻll be getting the freewell all-day pack for the pocket 3.

I just tested the Neewer variable ND. Same thing bro. Gotta go static I guess...
@meisterjubjub76068 ай бұрын
i think K&F also recently came out with some variable NDs. you might have better luck with those, but im not entirely sure
@CameronGravesVideo8 ай бұрын
I might give them a shot! However, I've always had better results with Freewell so I'd be impressed if the K&F concept one didn't have x-ing.

Hi, thanks for sharing this interesting video. I'd like to ask you a question. I recently got the Pocket 3 and today I received the FREEWELL ND8/PL filter. It's sad to say that the gimbal no longer folds. He is unable to make a normal turn to close, but the camera remains on its side and no longer protected. Why please? Thank you.
@CameronGravesVideo7 ай бұрын
If you are trying to close it with the filter on then there isn't enough clearance for it to close, you have to take the filter off each time. if it's not closing with the filter off then I'm not sure, you may have just gotten a defective pocket 3.

Did you set the camera to manual? I didn’t hear you say so or show any settings on screen. Point being, if you are trying to achieve proper motion blur, then you’d want to set your shutter speed and tweak the VND.
@CameronGravesVideo7 ай бұрын
Yes, it was on manual. it was set to 4k, d-log, 24fps, 1/50 shutter, flexible 50-1600 iso!

What is X ing?

If you look up "variable nd filter x pattern" on Google you can see some more dramatic examples so that you know what you are looking for. In my video at 2:23-2:36 you can really see how part of the sky is much darker than the edges. A good VND should have that evenly throughout the sky. you can also see it pretty easily at 3:00-3:10 and in some shots during the side-by-side. it's more subtle but enough that I don't want to use it. does that help?

Can anyone tell me which filter is good and why we need this i bought osmo pocket 3 combo creator but didnt open yet coz im confuse do i have to use filter .. i just make vedios of my 19 months old nephew❤
@CameronGravesVideoАй бұрын
a good ND set would be the freewell sunny day kit. that is what I use. However, you really only need an ND filter if you are using it for more professional use to get proper motion blur. if you are simply filming your nephew this is an extremely capable camera and the auto features on it are great, you don't really need any filters. (in fact much of the time I donʻt even utilize the filters)

Can you help identify where are the x patterns you spot? I really have hard time telling. I'm not an expert.

@@CameronGravesVideo I think I sort of know what you mean or my monitor is not that great and really not noticeable even after you told me the timestamp. Maybe if the expert want to pixel peek on it but I still can't tell if you didn't tell me about it. Good to know though.
@greggh7 ай бұрын
I don't see anything.
@peterdirection46087 ай бұрын
Definitely see the X pattern on Freewell. But not for pgy. Still sucks. Gotta go with ONE piece of glass. Cpl also changes the image too much.
@greggh7 ай бұрын
So how does the variable compare to the Freewell 14 ND set?

Dji filters vs these please

The left corner seems mushy at 2:26
@richritter4 ай бұрын
You can adjust these filters to get the "X" out by simply turning them off the center line like you do a larger variable ND filter. The red disc will turn in its frame. At least on the Freewells anyway. I don't have the PGY.
@CameronGravesVideo4 ай бұрын
I tried that and it can reduce it but not eliminate it in all situations. On top of that, you then no longer have the ND at your desired strength. I would just prefer hard-stop filters because of the issue.
@richritter4 ай бұрын
@@CameronGravesVideo Yes, just tried it, and it is quite limited. Strait out filters do work better.

What about the regular nd filters, do they have vignetting?
