UPDATE: I realized that just 2 weeks ago Apple gave the ok for third party manufacturers to make USB-C to Lightning cables, and they are not expected until 2019... maybe February. I take 8 mins to show what may be "Captain Obviuous"... you can use a USB-C to Lightning Cable to connect your DJI Osmo Pocket Camera to your iPhone, and get the benefits of the Mimo app and larger screen. Yes.. .they give you a little attached dongle piece, but it's just awkward to use. Plus, having several feet between a screen (iPhone in one hand) and the Camera in another... offers additional advantages/

So after trial and error, you need to remove the lighting adapter and put the cover back on for the usb-c connection method to work properly. When you have the adapter in place and try to plug a device in via usb-c It does not always connect to the Mimo app. Try it out! Works fine on my Osmo Pocket now that I removed the adapter! Also, the pgyTech solution looks pretty solid. Check it out. Comes from China so shipping will take a bit of time.

Brilliant. Usbc to lightning lead comes with newer iPhones. I hate using the gizmo docking my phone to the camera as I have to remove the case of the phone to make it fit

Neat hack. I never would have thought to use the USB-C conn on the bottom. I suppose that a F USB-C to lightning (or F lighting to M lightning) would work too with their side connector (if they make such a cable).

Mark i found if you use the cable as you say it works perfectly as long as you either remove the slide in plug or turn it in like you show it in your video. Better yet keep the blank slide on that's how it works for me Thanks for your info

You can also buy a lightning extension cable and plug it into the DJI included lightning adapter for a side mount cable connection. 1m cable for $7.99 on Amazon. Also available in 2m, 3m and 4m lengths.

An important point to note before getting this method to work is to first reverse the DJI supplied phone adapter back onto the Pocket.

I had similar idea purchasing 40in 8 pin male female lightning cable, about AU$15.00 works very well A basic selfie stick in conjunction with the cable completes my rig. Up periscope! 😀

Hi there. So my question is this. Could I mount the osmo pocket to the back of the chase car and have the wire routed into the car where I can sit and control the pan and tilt of the camera whilst also viewing the live image. In other words can I use the pocket as car mounted camera to shoot rolling car shots rather than having to hang out of a window with a gimbal?

Well if youre on samsung s9+, it came with a dongle that would connect both of the devices. Im also surprised to know that it actually works for osmo pocket.

It worked with a USB-C to USB-C cable from the Osmo Pocket to my Samsung Galaxy Note 9. The battery drained extremely fast connected that way compared to using included DJI USB-C accessory. It was comforting to not have to worry if the Osmo Pocket would break the USB-C port on the phone since it isn't directly connected to the phone anymore and the freedom to view the phone screen separately from the Osmo is liberating. I'll probably just connect it directly to the phone though for the majority of my usage so that I don't have to carry the cable around but I can see using the cable in scenarios where I need to to get a high or low shot and want to see what the camera sees without needing to get a ladder or get on the floor or ground. What's on the top shelf of that cabinet? I can't see up there! I'll just get the Osmo Pocket and connect it to the cable and phone and take a look without having to get on the step stool.

PGYtech already is selling an attachment that holds the phone and the Osmo pocket rigidly together while adding a female threaded pocket for mounts and tripod use. This rig is small and light and will still leave your other hand free if that is needed.

Pgytech have released a phone holder to hold your phone tight against the Pocket. I have a Galaxy s9 plus , due to wear and tear i am assuming the USB C connector is not as tight as when new. So i was getting device not connected. Damn,, then i realized i had an Iphone 5S sitting doing nothing. Tried the 5s with the pocket and with the lightning connector it works brilliantly connection nice and tight. With the larger phones these days it looks like PGYTech holder will be the go.

With your "crowd" example, this provides a whole bunch of options. The Pocket could be mounted on a variety of poles from selfie sticks to longer poles with the phone connected below and still be able to see exactly what the camera sees and adjust to the correct shot and even create effects to it. Cool. FYI - might want to clean up your background in the video - a dresser with a bunch of crap on it...not a great look...

This is great because my Osmo Pocket keeps popping out when it is plugged to my iPhone XS Max because my Mous phone case is just fat enough to make prevent the Osmo from plugging in all the way.

I’ve tried 2 cables and unfortunately it’s not going to work maybe they have blocked it with the new firmware. Brings up the green battery charge icon on the iPhone and makes a small sound but nothing.

Interesting idea. You lose the ability to stand the Pocket on its base with this method, tough. Why not just get a Lightning cable extension (male/female), then connect to the Lightning adaptor in the middle of the pocket?

Received the OP today. Connect the supplied black cable USB C to the bottom port and the USB end to a charging adapter. Charging Works. When I connect the USB end to a micro USB adapter, the OP does not communicate with the DJI Mimo in the galaxy S7. It says Device Not Activated. When I swiped upwards it says "Connect to DJI Mimo" The Lightning Adapter is connected on top facing inward. The other cable that I have on hand is USB male to Micro USB male. Next I connect this USB/Micro USB cable to the supplied cable by an both side female Adapter Extender (so that I can the OP to the S7) Same result, OP does not connect to phone. I will have to wait for the USB C Female to Micro USB male adapter. The nexr option is connect a single cable one end USB C to the bottom port and the other end with Micro USB to the phone Anybody out there still have problem connecting an android micro usb phone?

Not very useful but works. For example the app is too hard to handle in real scenarios with you left hand while holding the osmo in the right hand. Waiting for them to put the pro features on the device.
