DJI Phantom 2 Vision Plus 2023 Still Worth Buying?

I had one of these briefly, I was trying to fix for a friend. I also had no FPV feed on it. I'm glad you could get it to fly at least. Nice look at the history of drones and how far we have come. Thanks for sharing.

You got better luck than I did with mine! I've got 2 of them and last time I tried to fly one, I did everything I normally do for preflight and went to throttle up and it took off to about 3ft off the ground and flipped upside-down and slammed into the ground. Did it 3 times in a row, so I went and got the other one just like it. Did the same preflight I always do and went to take off and did the exact same thing the other one did. Looked it up and found out that they're not supported anymore 🤷🏼‍♂️

Thanks for this excellent overview of an old classic, and what a wonderful place in Spain you have. Thing is, if you still have this drone then it's still a superbly capable drone. The size and weight means it handles wind better much than even the new mini 3, and the 1080p video is very good quality, even if live view can be buggy (it's ok for some users, though. Other folk might be lucky). Yes, it's over 249g but so is any DJI drone bigger than mini's i.e. most of their drones. As for the 250g regulations, I'm pleased that so much tech is packed into the new mini 3. The future is certainly exciting in drone land.

I have the p2 plus, had to get the video wifi module repaired, it lasted maybe a couple of months and stopped working again. So, I replace it with a gdji gimbal and an old gopro 4 and transmission module. Without the app the p2 will go a further distance. In a rural area, 1 mile is easy.

A helpful review, thanks. I'm not a "trash it, its a relic!" proponent, but I appreciated you noting that the P2 does "wander around". Much better than a non GPS drone and better than the P1, but for a beginner it didn't help settle my nerves. In an odd way it made me feel better that as someone who is comfortable with drones you still became a bit nervous as the drone drifted, especially (as I noticed as well) when the drone is rotated.

I got my Phantom 2 & Zenmuse H4-3D Gimbal and the Black Pearl Monitor out of the attic a couple of weeks ago (As my brother got himself a Mini 3 Pro) after being up there for a couple of years and wanted to see if it worked. Found out the one of the batteries was dead and the other seems okay. Took it on a test flight and it didn't fly higher than 5m. Tried resetting the compass. Various lights came on Flashing red, Solid red. Looking to get a spare battery for it but the price of one is around £90 UK, so I can test it longer. Also have to get a GoPro 3 or 4 for it as the connector for the zenmuse gimbal is a Micro USB and my gopro at the moment has a type C and it won't fit into the gimbal. Wondering if it should keep it. I could sale it, but looking on the auction site I don't think its worth doing so. Been looking a videos on how to Mod the battery to keep the cost down. And I have an Android phone, so I can't get the Vision app.

Many thanks for your comment and glad you gave it a try and you got it in the air. To be honest, the Vision app is so old and buggy. I don't think it's worth buying another battery as when I had my drone in the air, it was moving around a lot. Litchi used to do a free version of the Vision app but no more. In the US all these old ones I think will be grounded. The Drone Remote ID is on its way to be enforced soon I think. Need a module for drones not ID compliant.

By the way, the p2 battery won't fit the p3. Also the p3 battery is a 4s and the p2 battery is a 3s

What the oldest model you would recommend in 2024. I’m looking to get my kids started . Want a quality camera and experience but don’t need a brand new drone .

Good question, I would say to learn on but still a good drone to learn on would be the DJI Mini 2 or Mini 2SE, you can get some good deals on those drone and wont cause any damage - good luck.

Where did you find the app? On my Samsung S22 I couldn't find it, so I factory reset my Samsung S7 phone & can't see the app in the app store. .also tried searching for aPK file.

Hi, all android phones that use Google have banned DJI apps, only on IOS (Apple) can you still get them. You might be able to get the Vision app on the DJI site and check downloads, good luck :)

@@shaunthedrone I just acquired 3 DJI Phantom drones for 250. 2 x Phantom 2 Vision Plus's and 1 x Phantom 1. All with extra batteries, controllers, range extenders, and h*lla spare props. Thanks to your comment, I have finally discovered that I, as an avid Samsung user, have no access to the drone app. Does the Litche app allow connectivity between newer (S21 Plus) Samsung phones and these DJI drones?

@@e.a.z.e. Good question, one I can't really answer as I have all the DJI apps on my iPhone. You can still download the apps from DJI website but not sure about the Vision app. I've had no problems with my iPhone Mini 12 so you should be okay. Let me know how you get on. You got a great deal there with the Phantom drones :)

I bought this drone and the box said 1k meters. Trust me it not even close to that. My only regret is updating the flight software because it was restricted immediately. This drone was made before flight restrictions 👍👍

You are mostly incorrect in so many aspects of this dron. This drone if setup correctly will not drift as much as your but all the essential calibration is needed which you didn't mention at all, also your no video issues is related to pfv video model which is located inside the drone and is know to have this issue your wi-fi extender is just fine, l do repairs on this type of drone and to be honest this drone is using very good fly control for it's time, even today if you into the habby you can build very nice drone using fly controller from phantom one or phantom 2 drones, they both use same fly controler The difference comes down to different firmware and some additional hardware changes. The worst thing is if people don't have much knowledge and advice others

@@MonroeBull Hi, will it still work, mine I can't view on the app anymore but the drone still flies. If you have Litchi app, try it on that but don't buy it for it. It's a good drone for its time and have fun.

Your lack of FPV is down to the WIFI module inside the drone, the NAND loses its memory if not used regularly. If you are able to fine solder it is repairable by reflashing. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3y2fJuqrq6tqrs
