GREAT video! Very helpful, thanks. Some constructive criticism... The reflective overlay you placed on the "tablet" obscures the screen a bit too much, and prevents from displaying what the actual video looks like on a tablet. CHEERS!

Great tutorial T, thanks for sharing. I would like to add one more item to your list to help give the film look. The Phantom 3 camera has very heavy moire. I have to turn down the sharpness all the way -3 and then add a pinch in post. In some cases when filming a fence or a brickwall I'd actually use gaussian blur in post to try to dissolve any and all moire. That pretty much solve any moire issues. Thanks again, looking forward for more videos...

Great video! Most parts of this tutorial of course also works for the Standard edition of the Phantom 3. The differences are the resolution (maximum 2.7 K) and that it's harder to find filters for the Standard edition because there are no filter threads on that camera. There are a few cheap filters available (I have a UV-filter) and I have ordered a ND-filter and a circular polarize filter, but I don't now the quality of them yet. Maybe I will post a comment about them when I've received them and tested them! ☺

+Jimmy Olsson Hey I have been looking for UV and ND filters for the P3S as well. Did you have any success finding a good set? Thanks.
@JimmyOlsson8 жыл бұрын
+BPM Videos Yeah! I ordered a cheap ND/polarize filter. There is no grading on it, but I estimate it to be equivalent to an ND 8x filter. It's ok, I can recommend it, it's absolutely good to have to reduce the shutter speed when filming. I ordered it on a Swedish site, I unfortunately don't know where else to buy it, but here's the link: www.24.se/hem-fritid/leksaker-spel/dronare/51357?externalsearch=1

Thanks for the video Tom! The 24 fps of the Phantom 3 is actually 23.976. If you're going for cinematic shots you definitely want to use the custom color style and at least reduce the in-camera sharpening (too much sharpness and it'll never look cinematic) and depending on your grading habits drop the contrast as well. The saturation is a bit over the top at default too - that is if a cinematic look is the goal. Standard works great for a different look but it's not cinematic. The over exposure warning is a handy tool as over exposed images look very amateurish. Thanks again Tom for the tips, I'm sure this video will help tons of people!

so i tried the flight recorder button on the data log. if you have it on it shows a map like from google earth maps. it shows the white line of the route you flew. and the drone in the red triangle following in a yellow line. it also shows you control sticks and how you used them during the flight.it also shows where you took pictures from and what altitude. found it useful knowing my stick control because it shows it in % on how i used use them. so I can watch the video on the computer and see the flight log and see if I am turning to fast or climbing to fast. its interesting if you were recording your flight to see the difference. it does not show the footage of the flight from your camera just the data from the drone on the flight log. to see it if you have that part on just go to flight log and press on it and you will see the areal map. cool video thanks helped a lot.

hey Tom Thanks so much!! so much help. I noticed even in your live view screen that at 14:43 and 14:50 there are some wavy distortion on your screen and the black bars that float across the screen. Im getting that same thing when out in the field. Since day one, the live view screen from my controller screen whether its my IPAD mini 3 or IPHONE 6plus the screen display distorts a lot of times...wavy lines. There will be lines in it like static...then clear...then there will be 1/2 inch black bars scrolling across the screen occasionally?? Distracting. I have changed USP connection cord from the controller to the screen with 2 different brands. No change. Its kind of a bummer to keep having this distortion in live view. When I download the footage on my Mac, its all clear. Its just a pain in viewing in live view. Any suggestions? THUMBS UP!!!!

As usual great video! Just one thing though: What is the difference between MOV and Mp4? MOV files are full 1080p files. Each video frame is compressed into a JPG in the movie file--this means that it has a large file size. MOV files will work in most editing programs, but they may not work in some PC programs. Mp4 files are also full 1080p files, and they are the international standard for sharing videos across the web. They use an H.264 compression, which allows for a high-quality video and a smaller file size. You can use Mp4s in all editing platforms, and they are easier for computer processors to manage.

White balance. You said "set it to a fixed number, so that the colors will all look the same." Not true...if the (color of the) light changes between scenes, white will no longer be white. That's why AUTO white balance usually works better for the average person. If you are SURE the color of the light will not change from scene to scene (cloudy, sunlight, etc), THEN choosing a fixed number will work.

excellent video! But do you know how to get 1080p 60fps? I use PAL, and I only see up to 50FPS?
@TomsTechTime9 жыл бұрын
Christer Trasti Hey Christer, many cameras only support "PAL 1080p 50fps" or "NTSC 1080p 60fps". That's a technical thing. In digital age you can simply switch to NTSC and use the higher framerate if filming outdoors and if you're not planning on burning a PAL-DVD, for example. Don't forget to increase the shutterspeed when filming with a higher framerate: 100 at 50fps, 120 at 60fps. Greets and fly safe!
