DJI Phantom 3 vs Parrot Bebop 2

There's no question the DJI is better, especially the professional model. However, these drones are made for two different markets. In addition, the size of the Bebop 2 is only a fraction of the size of the DJI, making it easier to travel with and more suited for hobbyists. Not to mention the price difference :) I think the Bebop 2 fills a nice niche.

+greatguy2003 Yes! I already replied to radimax21 about price difference, in France. For quasi-equivalent versions and equipment the difference of price is not to the advantage of Bebop. But you can have Bebop without the controller for much cheaper. In fact it depends to your need. If you want to fly just for fun and have some "souvenir" footage for a family video during your travels, the Bebop 2 (without its gigantic controller) could be a reasonable choice: smaller, lighter, more robust, more discreet, nice design,... a beautiful toy. But if you plan to have shoot nice HD video for a professional-like video, with Bebop, you just can't!

+greatguy2003 Do remember that if you want to fly bebop drone for a longer distance, you need a much more bigger and space consuming controller... Which is far from convenient to move around. As for Price, Parrot Bebop2 + Skycontroller is more expensive than Phantom 3 now.

+Wang Max That's not necessarily true. Bebop 2 has a flight plan feature that will take off, fly a course you specify, then come back and land all without touching the controls. It will still complete its flight plan even if it flies out of control range. Phantom has a similar feature but you can only set way waypoints by first actually flying to that position. I enjoy Bebop's approach here.

+greatguy2003 Flight Plan is a nice feature but it still can not replace the lang range view feed (which is so terrible in Bebop that you can feel latency even withing 10 m) and control distance. What happens if you make a mistake when setting the plan? What if there is a tree on the route and you lose control then? You have to watch your Bebop to crash because it's out of range. And Yes Of Course, they charge you extra money for new feature, while DJI has already updated all Phantom 3 Advanced Edition with 2K video quality and 5KM Control Distance FOR FREE. :))

+Wang Max I think one point you're missing though, is that the Bebop 2 doesn't require an extra controller. With my phone, the control distance has maxed out near the 300 m theoretical distance. And with the Bebop 2 being significantly smaller than the Phantom 3, and not requiring me to bring an extra controller, it's much more convenient for situations where I don't need long-range control. For me, I normally don't need the extra control distance, and I believe the same is true for most non-professional users. Again, that being said, the two drones are for two different, but very similar markets in my opinion. Different use cases.

i think you should reconsider for a phantom 3 advanced.. the distance it can go is much farther plus the advanced can add on a filter to the lens.. which the standard cannot.

I gone for the Phantom3 4k the range (in EU) is kinda enough (500m +- 50-10) out of EU this range is better. but it has the 4k camera of the professional and the sensors for indoor use. to use it as a tool for filmig it is perfectly fine. I got it for 660€ shipped normal price is arround 700€ nowdays, parrot with the scycontroller is the same or more. got it 3 weeks now. didn't regret it.

I LOVE parrot drones, their whole lineup is great. From mini's to Full size drones to the aqua and ground drones. The new Parrot disco looks fantastic as well. The camera could use an update probably on the Bebop but I mean it's not like they're gonna stop making them haha. The other drone seems really advanced though, but I don't think I'd want one that advanced for my style, great footage on it though.

Great comparison on 2 great drones. If absolute video quality is of utmost importance, then I think the edge goes to DJI. But choosing between the 2 comes down to your preferences, and needs. For me personally, size, weight, & portability when not in use are very important. Also simplicity - the Bebop can be flown with just a phone or tablet. Or you can add a gaming controller, or use the optional Bebop controller. DJI can only be used with the controller it comes with, adding to the bulk. For me, the DJI wasn't even a consideration.

Hello and thank you so much for being one of the few people who trully are capable of showing in detail the differences btw the above compared drones. These "details" shown in your review/test trully show the capabilities and differences of each of the drones. There are countless numbers of reviews, showing battery life, distance travelled, phenomenal heights but very few "in detail" reviews of the actual photo/video quality capabilities of drones. Surely - many show their videos which have been cropped, sharpened or in many ways digitally remastered and then the typical "user" or rather to say "non-professional" drone user who would like to have his money "well spent" if investing hundreds of dollars/euros into whatever drone, has no way of seeing the true differences. Thank you for the review and please keep up the great work! This review helped me in which way I would like my money spent and in which way I would be quite dissatisfied. Thanks!

There are PLENTY of videos and people online comparing the two and the Phantom 3 ALWAYS wins! The facts just don't add up! I have a Phantom 3 Standard, and let me tell you, that was the best 500$ I EVER spent! My friend has a Bebop and I showed him my Phantom and asked him to compare the two. He literally said: "The bebop is JUNK compared to this phantom! How much did you pay for it?" He literally did not believe me when I said 500$ and looked it up online. Also, Bebop's "portability"? Skycontroller weighs 9.5 pounds and is bigger an heavier than a Phantom 3 and controller COMBINED!!! DJI ALWAYS WINS!

I need to get a drone myself since it would help with my scenery and outdoor event videos. For someone who's going on vacation and needs to travel as light as possible, I can see the Bebop 2.0 being a good choice since you wouldn't need a bulky controller. With that said, the price really should be a little less. DJI Phantom 3 Standard which comes with a controller will cost you $500 and the Advanced version will cost you $800. The Parrot Bebop drone without the controller will cost you $550 and it'll be $800 with the controller. The Bebop 1 on the other hand costs $350 now which isn't bad but when you include the controller, it's $750 which makes it a bit too steep. Should be no more than $700 for the 2.0/controller package and no more than $600 for the 1.0/controller package.

+Paul Galand Même autonomie avec un léger avantage pour le bebop 2 je dirais. Pour le reste le phantom est 2,5 plus lourd donc en cas de vent est certainement plus stable. Et la philosophie au niveau des caméras et totalement différente. Bebop 2, c'est un gros capteur fixe de 14MP dans lequel se ballade une image FullHD (2MP). Donc, tous les déplacement d'image, les stabilisations, etc... sont faites éléctroniquement. Pour le Phantom 3, c'est un capteur qui filme en fixe avec une gymbal derrière que assure les rotations et la stabilisation.

+Bruno favé Hello Bruno. Les deux drones sont programmables pour suivre une trajectoire définie sur une carte avec guidage GPS. Mais je n'ai pas testé cette fonction. Si vous cherchez une qualité d'image valorisante y a pas photo, c'est le cas de le dire! Avec Parrot c'est très décevant, et encore j'ai été gentil j'ai pas mis les images les plus significatives pour démontrer ça. En terme de Prix, le prix du Phantom a encore baissé depuis. Moi, j'ai rendu mon Parrot, j'ai acheté un Phantom suite à ce test.

In France: Bebop 2 with remote control 949 € (€ = $ approx) to be compared with Phantom 3 Standard (directly comparable to Bebop 2) 745€ When Phantom 3 Advanced & Professional versions cost respectively 1099 and 1400€, the last one with an outstanding 4k camera. But you can eventually purchase a Bebop 2 without remote control (so to be controlled with your smartphone, less accurate and with a limited range of flight, 300m vs 2km) for 550€. So consider: The bebop is a beautiful toy that can shoot some poor HD footage for fun, when DJI is a flying camera to shoot nice HD video, you can eventually use it for fun, but not designed for.

Even I didn't personally test the Std version I believe that for video quality it beats Bebop as well. But Bebop 2 have some significant advantages, much lighter (500g vs 1280g) smaller (without the skyController), more robust (no moving part for camera, camera embedded inside a nice plastic body), additional battery 3 times cheaper, more suitable for travels (you can quiet put it in your luggage)... Globally a beautiful toy that can shoot for fun, but not for broadcast. In comparison, DJI is a flying true HD camera, a utility design, more technical, probably more dangerous (rigid and big propellers), much bigger (needs a specific case for travel) . Not designed as a toy. So it depends to your use.

Cool... thanks for this video... i've a parrot bebop 2 ; so, i think it's less expensive compare to Phantom 3... I've bought also many off little drones... twenty, 30, 40... i don't know... soon, i will make video and share it... Good fly to all people as me who love drones... (please.. excuse my bad english, i'am french.. so... )

Yes the bebop "has" 25 minutes flight time.. Go fly in the breeze see if you still have the same time.. You should sell your bebop.. And get more batteries for your phantom bro...

Not a good comparison stacking the Bebop against the Phantom Pro because they aren't even remotely in the same price range. Now if you want to see a DJI phantom series REALLY kick the Bebops ass then compare it to the Phantom 3 4K because now we're talking apples in the wallet. The P34K $599. w/ true 4K vid and the same stabilized gimbal that the P3 Pro has. In fact the P34K is just like the Pro only without Lightbridge and HDMI port on the remote etc. Still the extended WiFi of the P34K is good for 1000m = 3280ft and this still smokes the Bebop. Folks don't get me wrong because I like the Bebop but I think its WAYYYyyyy over priced compared to other products that can do so much more. Now the 3DR Solo is out there giving everyone something to think about. Yes its true that the Bebop packs up small for travel but you lose all that with the size of the massive controller that's twice the size of the aircraft.

I had the bebop and loved it up untill it went nuts and flipped over a shredded the blades, twice I may add, end I did all the correct preflight checks.. Got refund and got the dji standard, miles better, but yes it it is bigger.

La version plus artistique du montage : kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3ndkJeHhZetrsU Sinon, je referai une vidéo prochainement car j'ai testé le profile couleur D-log du Phantom 3 (un équivalent du v-log d'un gh4 ou d'un s-log Sony), le profil est super plat et on récupère une excellente image et beaucoup d'ombres et de lumières une fois les bons LUTs utilisés au montage. Il faut que je vois aussi cette question de travelling, je trouve bizarre que le phantom ne compense pas l'inclinaison, un jeu d'enfant pour la gymbal.

unfair comparing... Phantom 3 is newer and much more money, Bebop 2 is older and cheaper. Phantom 3 (700-1000$) Bebop 2 (300$ and 400-500$ with the FPV pack)

not comparable since now on amazon phantom costs 800 and bebop with just a controller costs 600. A better comparison would have been with the standard. the standard costs around the same (and even less!) and has a better camera. That being said if you want a fun toy that also records decent video go with the parrot. If you want a high quality video and also something that you can have fun with while flying go with the djI. I like flying a quadcopter and do not care for ultra high res video (I do photography but video for me is meh). So I went with the bebop. But I recon that if I wanted to work with my drone a djI would be the best option. BY FAR!!!!

You can't compare a 550 dollar drone with a 1.3k phantom 3. It's like comparing a smart car with a Ferarri. I mean if you want to spend that money, of course buy a phantom 3. However, if you aren't willing to spend that money, obviously you should buy a bebop 2

+Brennan Birn The Phantom 3 standard is even cheaper than Bebop 2 with the skycontroller (but the additional battery is 2.5x more expensive). Check my answer to radimax21. But Bebop has some significant advantages, weight, size, robustness, etc that may be interesting if you bring it for travel.

Parrot should stop pissing around and step up with a 4K camera if it wants to seriously challenge DJI. I think a name change is also in order (like um...the Mach1 - haha!). Until then the Bebop drone will always be just another wannabe.

+Mach1Airspace 4K isnt going to happen with Parrot's approach to stabilization. To get electronically stabilized 1080p they already need a 14MP sensor. So to get 4K they would need ~50MP sensor. Not gonna happen anytime soon. I dont really care about 4K either, I just wish their 1080p didnt look like upscaled 480p most of the time.

Bebop 2 is better for having fun and enjoying piloting, p3 has a way better camera but There is no way to have fun with it

Been hearing a lot of how cheap the construction is on the Phantoms. Quality of the plastic they are now using have somewhat lessened and easy to break. Also, the support for these things has been horrendous is the general consensus. I wouldn't buy one of these just for that reason alone. Bebop 2 is a work horse. I've been flying this things miles at at time no major issues. Except for the Camera, I think it's superior to the Phantom series in almost all other aspects.

Lol... read one of the other comments: this guy dropped his Bebop from 3 feet, leg broke, complete disaster. Bebop is a super rip off. The camera is CRAP, read the reviews online. Range is crap, so is video feed. Phantom 3 and DJI are UNARGUABLY THE BEST and the bebop is a imitation. BTW, Skycontroller is 9.5 pounds and as big as a Phantom 3 and 3 times as heavy, so there goes any logical arguement against the Phantom. I am an owner of a Phantom 3 Standard and will NEVER by a parrot prouduct!
