I’ve got the pocket 3 last week and used it a few times. I love it. Massive upgrade on the pocket 2 and I liked that. Yes it isn’t going to perform like a 5k camera and lenses do on a pro gimble. But in all honesty by the time you have set up your expensive kit I’ve finished my video and the difference in the final product isn’t that big on most scenario’s

I tested the Pocket 3 at one of my RE shoots today and was quite impressed overall. In my market fast and cheap is the name of the game and the Pocket 3 seems like a good tool for that so far, certainly for a budget video option for agents. I'd love a little more dynamic range in the windows but, again, as a budget option it could be a winner.
@Ozpeter Жыл бұрын
Well, watching on a cheap laptop (as clients might do...) I actually thought the Pocket 3 footage "sold" the house more than the other camera. It looked a bit more colourful and punchy to me. My overall response is that the chances of the Pocket 3 losing you a sale would be pretty small - even if the other camera's results were technically better. But I'm not in the business (though my son is!). But... If I was making a video to sell a house, I'd approach it very differently if I was using the FX3 vs the Pocket 3. You did mention how the lack of a tilting screen was a problem with the Pocket 3 and how you could "hold a phone in your other hand" to get around that, but that's not the best option by a long chalk. I don't know whether you ever used the Pocket 2 on the official extension rod with its physical buttons on the lower end of the rod, where the phone can be clamped on, but that's almost the only way that I use my Pocket 2 - it takes the creative possibilities to a whole new level. I believe that's a forthcoming accessory for the Pocket 3 - I really hope so! Meanwhile, it's very easy to put together a pole with a phone clamp on the bottom, fixing the Pocket 3 to the top end of the pole via the tripod mount attachment they supply. Deploying that would be quite a bit faster than deploying a full size gimbal, I would expect - one minute? Then you've got creative opportunities which a standard gimbal and normal-sized camera just doesn't offer. So what would be interesting would be to compare not only the picture quality vs the FX3 but also the creative possibilities of the two. Instead of shooting a close-to-identical video using the Pocket 3, set it up on a pole and shoot a completely different one. Then see which would be the most likely to have commercial success and client appeal. (For instance, fly across the pool. Walk up to a barely open window and go right inside, or the reverse - back out and pan round the garden. Lift the camera up into that high roof space and glide down. And so forth). But here I am, happily spending hours of your precious time!

Definitely a great bang for buck, even with the very obvious blown out highlights. Pitted against an iPhone 15 Pro on a gimbal in ProRes LOG would be really interesting and probably the main option people are weighing against the Pocket 3. Mount the Pocket horizontally on top of the FX3 while on the gimbal and boom: 4-axis stabilization, a pocket Ronin 4D lol. Still think nothing can beat (at the price point) the flexibility having the 12,800 second base ISO the FX3 gives to be able to stop down.

I find there were some shots that look better on the Pocket 3. Sometimes I think, and I don't mean you, that many people "like" the Sony's pictures better because they know that it is the more expensive camera. A blind attempt is sometimes dramatic. I saw a video where a larger camera, the iPhone 15 Pro and the Pocket 3 were compared. I always recognized the iPhone straight away - it was actually the worst. With the other two I was often wrong about which was the more expensive camera as well as the better picture. And often it was the Osmo Pocket 3. Amazing.

The lack of width with the lens makes it unusable, I’d say. In smaller rooms that would be a major issue.. a lot of the shots looked good but were pretty tight. I’m wondering how it would perform in the sort of low light we get here in the winter - badly, I presume.
@JonathanPalfrey Жыл бұрын
Looks really good. I agree it doesn’t need over exposing, I think at a lower exposure they’d match even better. The most noticeable difference to me was how it handled the tungsten lights. This is what I wanted to do with the Osmo 2 for my real estate photography business, but after just testing it out on random objects I could tell that was a no-go in comparison to my gimble/A7 setup, but I always maintained hope that future upgrades will allow for it soon as carrying a vastly lighter video setup would make shoots that much more fun and easy going. Just hearing about the Osmo 3 and seeing the image quality difference gave me some hope... did a real estate Osmo search and you came up per usual, exactly what I was hoping for. Hearing the fiddlyness, and wide-angle issues makes me feel like it's a pass though. The Osmo image quality is passable now, comparable to the A7III at this point in its age, which is amazing, but of course, professional gear is also about efficiency on-site + I noticed the windows were definitely more blown out in comparison to FX3's HDR as expected, and I feel the Osmo would still be blown out regardless of knocking down the exposure. Cheers, thanks for always looking into alternatives like this.

Was going to say there is a clear dynamic range difference, but you did say you overexposed it. So the only other thing I can think of is the lighter P3 will have more jerky movements, so its not going to be the 'professional tool'. But with that said, this gimbal setup is not built for that, and what it does do for what its worth, its quite incredible! I have the P1 and love it. The P2 was not an 'upgrade' for me as I had all the accessories for the P1. But the P3 is a worthy considerations now. Could have just exposed for the highlights and pushed it in resolve... That looked like an exposure choice by the shooter that hampered the outcome there. Don't overexpose when uou have a dynamic range limitation, the shadows can be noise reduced. The highlights can't be bought back. Do it again with the wide angle adapter on the three, underexpose by a stop, and post it nicely. I reckon it would be very different outcome.

Finally a review that sees potential for real estate for the Pocket 3. I'm doing yacht photography, and see this as a very interesting tool for the notoriously tight spaces onboard yachts. At bathrooms and other rooms with many mirrors, I would also be able to place the Osmo on a monopod in a corner, leave the room and do pans using the mobile app. Although that is technically doable with any camera/drone combinations, they require more room and are more of a hassle to set up. Another thing is that 180 grams vs. 1.8 kilograms which is what my current gimbal/camera/lens combination weighs, means that I will be less tired, stay concentrated longer, and making fewer mistakes towards the end of the day. Thank you for a good and very useful review.
