Never mind the camera comparison, it was great to see these shots of the city where I spent the first 50 years of my life - the church where my parents married (St Martin's, in the war!) and where I used to work back in the '60s (County Hall, now a hotel), etc etc. Anyway, the Insta360 does remarkably well, and I would think it would thrash my DJI Action 2 in these shots - but not surprisingly, for the most part the Pocket 3 is the clear winner. But it's interesting that in a few shots, the Ace seems slightly better. It seems to avoid most of the problems that plague EIS cameras in low light (juddering lights and stuff). @@james.loxton are you able to buy one of these cameras in the United States through Amazon or Best buy? Because in Canada we can't get it through Best buy or Amazon. We can only get it through or insta360s website? And I found out that their return policy is horrible rather buy it through a reputable big box store. Are you having that issue as well?

Ahhhhh yeah. I have the Ace Pro and Pocket 3 combo and they book look great. The Pocket is definitely better due to sensor size but the Ace Pro does a VERY good job when maybe the conditions aren’t optimal for a gimbal. Good stuff!

The pocket 3 is much clearer in lowlight, but there are some scenes where i preferred the ace pro - one example is the elevator scene. I found the ace pro more cinematic there even if it's nto as clear as pocket 3..

The elevator scene look better in Ace Pro simply because the POV is wider. A wide angle lens with Pocket 3 will produce similar result, but as I understand from other review the Ace Pro is still wider even vs Pocket 3 + Wide Angle lens

for better low light performance in terms of action cameras I would definitely choose the ace pro over the action 4 BUT for non action cameras the pocket 3 takes the crown for me 😎

Nice video James, was wondering, for daylight videos of my car, both from outside and inside, as well as getting footage of drag racing from the outside , what would I be better getting in terms of video quality? The Ace Pro or the Pocket 3?

thanks 😎 so ive done car shots with both cameras and personally prefer the pocket 3. the ace pro didnt perform the best when i tried to shoot inside the car, if we are talking about filming drag racing, because of the speed u would need to have the camera moving at i would definitely recommend changing the gimbal rotational speed if u do use the pocket 3 as if its set too low it wont be able to keep up with the tracking when u move it

Love your videos, thanks for posting them. Can I ask, was the iso capped on the cameras? If so what was the maximum iso used on both? I notice on my Ace Pro when turning on the “low light stabilization” the images gets darker. Have you encountered that as well?

no problem! glad u like them 😎 so for all of these shots on both cameras (apart from the couple I labelled otherwise) was shot in auto mode so the iso adjusted automatically based on the scene… on the pocket 3 u can adjust the iso in different ways, either a range or single amount. When in pro mode the lowest range u can set is 50-100 and the highest is 50-6400 but when shooting in low light mode u can just a single value from 50 up to 16000 or a range of 50-16000… with the ace pro when in auto mode u can’t adjust the iso but when u switch it to manual mode u can choose from 100 up to 6400 or u can set it to auto max 500 up to 6400. I can’t say I’ve had the same issue ur describing with the ace pro getting darker so not too sure what’s happened on urs

Thanks for the comparison of two very different cameras, fitted with entirely different sensor sizes. Yet, in my opinion, what you really proved is how good the Ace Pro really performs. Not sure what to make of all the comments raving about the pocket 3. What they should be saying is that an action camera just creeped up on their treasured pocket 3. An action camera with a smaller sensor, with capabilities far beyond that of a handheld gimbal.

both can be used as a webcam when connected to ur computer. i personally haven’t tried stream with either of them so can’t really comment but I can’t imagine there would be any problems long term

If you wanna walk around town, interview people on the go, or do short monologues as an actor in all kinds of environments and later add in b-roll shots of the environment.. which model is really the best? I do not want a constant fish-eye look if I want to do monologues and acting, or sit down and talk to the camera for vlogging.. but I like the idea I can connect it directly to my body or bike or walk around with a camera in a demonstration or cultural event and ask people what they think of things and so make social media content. what camera should I use? Thanks to anyone who can advise me to someone who really tried realistic acting in front of a camera like these where you got no help, no film crew that can film you but must do it all yourself... I have had more professional cameras like the Lumix Gh3.. and I know there are new amazing cameras like the G9 ll now from Panasonic... but those are not so easy to use when you film yourself as an actor... how to find a balance between good cinematic look and ability to easily film yourself as an actor to make monologues, social media content, walk around cultural events and interview people and get both sound and cinematic style at the same time? what camera shall one use in 2024? common guys, how tested enough of pro and consumer cameras to help me out! I am not asking for a RED or ARRI camera, I am not making a Hollywood movie, but I want cinematic look as an actor, not the old crappy 90s look of bad monologue and audition tapes, that sucks, lets'' find ways to make content cinematic in 2024! thanks

if u don’t want the fish eye look u could use the ace pro but change the FOV to make the fish eye look reduced, u mentioned something u can use in all environments, so if that includes rain u won’t be able to use the pocket 3 as it’s not water proof BUT the ace pro is… in my opinion the pocket is however better in low light so again that’s something to consider if u was shooting in a low light situation the pocket 3 will be able to not just film u standstill but also follow u if u want to move around in the shot (if u turn on active track) so essentially it’s like having a camera operator with u. both cameras are great in there own rights but I would personally choose the pocket 3 over the ace pro, u mentioned wanting that cinematic look and the pocket 3 gives out that look if set up correctly. plus the pocket 3 has the nice background blur behind u when ur in shot which adds to the cinematic look but the ace pro doesn’t as everything is in focus

Thanks for the video - two issues: one is that it seemed the Pocket 3 was exposing brighter, and if the exposure could have been equalized, I think the Ace Pro would have looked better. Also, the Pocket 3 has a narrower field-of-view, making it SEEM like many objects had more detail, but at least a part of that was due to the "zoom in" factor. Yeah tough call.

Noticed that too, the Ace Pro seems to have a huge field of view. In certain applications it can certainly be the winner of the two. Cheaper too, where I'm at, like... 100 euro cheaper. Like you said, tough call.

For night shots, Pocket 3 which has a bigger sensor, wins hand down but both cameras are not in the same class. For those who do vlogging, Pocket 3 is definitely the one to go, and for those who want an action cam, AP is the one (added advantage, AP can also be used for vlogging!). Both are good cams, depending on the user's usage & preference :)

Most people do not buy these cameras to use under low light conditions. They buy them to use under optimal lighting during the daytime. And in the beautiful outdoors in the bright daylight, the Ace Pro blows the doors off of the Pocket 3. The Pocket 3 does not have active HDR while the Ace Pro has the best active HDR I've ever seen in a camera. The colors are gorgeous!

I don’t think u can speak for ‘most people’ and neither can I but I would say there is a huge demand in people wanting a small sized pocket camera/action camera that performs well in low light which is why the low light battles of the cameras is such a big thing… HDR is good in some situations but the fact u don’t have the option to turn it off on the ace pro is annoying

Hmm. The number of KZbin videos of low light scenes shot with the Pocket 3 kind of disputes this. It's possible that low light video has never been very popular 'cos it used to look not too good. Now, the Pocket 3 opens up new video possibilities for the well-off masses.

Well, it will be interesting to see how much of the percentage you use the camera in daylight and at night time. But I know most of my usage will be during the day and very little night time usage. If most of your video usage is going to be at night, then the Pocket 3 is your best bet. But if daytime is going to be the most of your usage, then the Ace Pro is the way to go!@@Ozpeter

After watching countless videos comparing the two cameras, the Ace Pro is clearly the winner with images at a distance whereas the DJI looks better on low light for nearer objects. I also think the stabilisation on the Ace Pro looks great. The DJI has a lot of movement considering its on a dedicated gimble (scratches head!).

I already have Pocket2 but get anxious about pulling it out to film things on the fly. I think I’ll get the ace pro. It does just fine in low light. And since it’s a worry free action cam, I will use it more than a Pocket3 to film those unplanned moments.

I don't even use low light mode in OP3, just use M mode and gets the night scene as good as low light mode
