DJI RONIN RS3 FOCUS MOTOR NOT CALIBRATING/FINDING ENDPOINTS? THE FIX!!!

Maybe it's just me, but I had issues trying to get the focus motor calibration to work properly. It would fail to find the end points, and once hitting the hard stop, the motor would keep pushing and pushing. It worked a few times, but 95% of the time it didn't work.
I saw PhotoGear in Auckland City and one of the guys there worked through this with me and noticed that in some of the manuals, there was an elastic-type band that was shown in the images, even though none came with the RS3.
We were confused but after a while, figured out that the band pulls the lens and rod together to help it find the hard stops. So in the end, we found out that holding the lens and rod together using your hands was just as effective and solved this issue for me!

I never comment, but I was on the phone with DJI tech support scratching my head because they had no idea how to address this issue. I was getting pretty pissed thinking I had a bum Lidar unit, then I stumbled on your video. Kudos bro! It worked right away! Thanks for the simple tip!

this was very helpful as I was having this problem and it solved my problem and saved me frustration or just abandoning the lidar all together! DJI really makes great products but are suprisingly terrible at something as simple as instruction manuals

Hello, this did the quick trick, we just have to be careful how much pressing force is needed for a good stop. For classic Nikon AF-S mount lenses, I used another trick, and added zip ties to the ronin lens belt at both ends of the focal range to emulate a hard stop lens (I got this from youtube user PXXL). The RS3 Pro combo has a lens strap, which is the one I believe was referred in your video. I didn't bother and used the hand method. On another note, in the gimbal, there is an option called manual focus endpoints, which allows you to override the auto-adjustment by setting the endpoints yourself. Now onto DJI Lidar, manual focus endpoints seem to be recognized by it (I got blinking green led); however, not as part of the calibration process. It would be nice if manual focus endpoints are added to the calibration setup as an option. For now, manual press workaround works for me.
