Matti Haapoja you didn’t used crane2 correctly in upside down mode, that’s why the result is so bad :/ while hanging straight just rotate arm clockwise around the camera and you are in upside mode. Also when using in flashlight mode I found sometimes it requires additional micro tuning in stability, after which it works really good

Matti Haapoja as for me I have crane2, but haven’t used ronin-s, because I had enough bad experience using red epic with ronin-m: not so easy to tune, not very friendly and intuitive application, problems with battery connection and it shuts down unexpectedly sometimes))

I don’t like using the Crane because of how restricted it feels when trying to see what you’re shooting, I feel like I’m guessing what I’m shooting a lot of the time. I’ll be buying the Ronin S as soon as I sell the Crane 2.

I've been contemplating about the weight too and the size of the case. Probably wont wanna be carrying around that huge dji case when I'm traveling. But the nodding of the crane 2 worries me. That's 3 youtubers now having the same problem, and I dont think it's as simple as just a balancing issue. Mind you I'm putting a 6d2 on it and not some crazy heavy camera but still...

note Matti you CAN do the low shots with a 1d on a crane 2 no problem your just doing it wrong. with the gimbal 'ON' invert the gimbal quickly. works perfect just don't try invert back with the gimbal on, your best off turning the gimbal off, twisting it the upright position and then turn it back on. if this doesn't make sense I'm sorry I'm very tired.

The jittery motion on Crane 2 is due to settings. If you go to your menu - motor - select the option high instead of low. It will fix the issue if micro jitter. Also the firmware update.

@mattihaapoja i just got mine in to day but i noticed 2 thinks 1: when i pan it feels like it gets stucked for a second and then it does the job right again. 2: in infinite roll/spin it suppose to make a 360 roll but ( lets say at 300 ) it feels like it gets stuck for just a second and then it finish making the roll. did you notoice that two ? or... is it just my device?

Hi Matti! Getting great inspiration from your videos. A question: I own a Canon 5D and im thinking of buying one of these gimbals. Non of my lenses has Image Stabilization built in. Does that matter? Does the gimals make the footage smooth enough anyway? Or is a lens with image stabiliser also a must have?

For inverted mode on the crane do you not turn it to the side and up like the V2? Not just pushing forward? Seems strange to not have the same feature, inverted is almost the only way I shoot with the V2.

ridegradient yes try that Matti. You don't just tilt a Crane forward to go inverted. You spin it to the side until it's down low. I know the 1DX is large so it may still not work, but that's how you go inverted on a Crane. Just did it with mine a few times on my last shoot.

hey matti great review. I own the crane 2 also and as I was watching your undersling mode I think you use it in the wrong way... You have to flip it horizontally and than you have the carying point on the back in stead of in the front.

I was having the jittering problem with the Zhiyun out of the box, especially once I mounted the follow focus. However, in the settings, you can change the strength of the motors, and changing it to medium/strong solved it right away. Also, the motor goes in back in undersling mode. Love your other videos and tutorials, but a little more research and use was needed before making this full comparison video.

Did you have the Crane 2 1DX2 gravity adjustment plate? You should have been able to put the Crane2 into undersling mode if you do.

I just got the crane 2, and man, how do u guys carry that thing around with you when traveling?? I'm just holding it around my house for like 15 mins just to see what it feels like and it's mad heavy. I have the same 6dii with a 16-35mm setup as you. It looks to me like you are doing inverted mode on both gimbals different than I do. Inverse the handle by going sideways toward the second motor on the side to invert it which leaves the lens side clear giving you a full motion inverted. It works so well I use this mode more than half the time.

I have the Crane 2 set up with the follow focus, and a Zacuto EVF punched in for focus, with the GH5s. Right now, DJI doesn't have a follow focus option at all. In fact, their wireless follow focus system is $1500 still. Zhiyun changed the game by offering all this at a low price, Currently $549 on Amazon with follow focus and extras. I'm sure they will have a strong contender coming soon too. I also have the Redking. I will go back and forth depending on setups. These small gimbals can't hold larger front heavy setups. So, Can the DJI fit the 70-200?

Great intro review Matti. I'm still practicing with my Monopod, that's what I've got so I'll use it, but I was hoping the Ronin S was going to be good. With a clear view of the rear screen and the ability to take camera upgrades (bigger cameras) it'll allow me to continue creating without having to buy something new to fit my kit upgrade. I believe there's a way of adding a handle which would give it almost a Movi feel, or so some other reviews have said. Seems like a really versatile and long lasting bit of kit.

Matti, that Slog2 footage ist not looking so good, I have the a7iii as well, and after several testing of Slog2 I decided to go with cine2/cinema, especially in fullHD100p the picture falls apart with slog2, I would use slog2 only in 4K at brought daylight. Cine 2/cinema ist really nice so far, you can film with iso 100, can expose normally, and it is pretty flat too, enough for youtube videos, and it looks so much crisper that slog 2. What would be very interesting is if you would take a look at PP10 - HLG (Hyrbrid Log Gamma), a lot of people are starting to talk about it, they say it is very great! Could you please test it? Matti, just one thing, you used the wrong way on the "undersling mode" on crane 2, you have to turn upside down from a side movement while holding the camera then he will enter a aproppriate mode for that kind of shot, it is really easy actually, doing this the motors will stay behind the camera and dont hiting the lens like in the video.
