That really sucks mate, feel for ya in that situation. looks like your app is still playing up with the false readings of the recording timer which may be affecting the return to Home and distance measurements also...seems like its all screwed up bad in the app you downloaded. ​@@SkyPilotFPV Sorry for the sloss. but what was dodgy about the app? Tello climbed to minimum RTH altitude, turned towards home, and then started to come back. As you said you then used pitch to send tello backwards, further away from you, until you lost contact. Looks like a simple simple user error to me

@@PERTHWESTOZRC the distance telemetry doesn't look faulty on the second run - at least not to me. It was only faulty on the first run after the VPS failed at 4:32. The reason for this failure is described in the manuals (both Tello and TelloFpv): flying over trees confuses VPS. Sorry, but you can't blame the app for problems that happen when operating a drone outside its design parameters. Or maybe I'm the only one who reads manuals from first to last page?

sorry to your tello, I almost lost it two times. One time it drits away above the trees,(VPS inactive error) second time the same situation with VPS but the drone was above small lake. Luckily I was able to return but it was a struggle

I lost my tello drone :( I was flying the drone 15m high, when suddently it went backwards without me doing anything. Then I get a message saying it lost connection to my phones wifi. The autolanding activated and I couldnt see where it was landing. The button to terminate the aulanding too didnt work. Well, I searched for days and days, but I couldnt find it. I informed all my neighbours, but no luck. I wish it had a gps. I had purchased the drone for 13000Rs, which is like 150/200usd in India. It took me a while to collect that much cash. Well, there goes my drone.

Strangely Tello runs away backwards when battery is low, mine also does that so keep it close when below 20% battery and when flying on uneven terrain or grass.

Seems to me that putting the repeater on the ground might have contributed. I'll bet a lot of the signal just goes into the ground. I wonder if setting it up higher would help the range.

You read the wrong battery percentage too. The FPV app displays the battery percentage on your phone as well as the drone. You thought you had plenty of battery because you read your phone battery when your drone was down to near 38% battery.

Hi remember me from a couple months ago I told you that I lost my Tello. I finally decided to buy another one and is coming on March 3 and then I see this🤔 I only had my first one for about four days and then it The video feed wash straight out. Hopefully I keep this one a little longer. And I don’t lose connection mid air and it drift away 😂. Since then I completely gave up on mini drones and I just flew around my phantom for the time being but I want a night flyer and to be able to takeoff out my window and zip around my back yard. So yeah I’m gonna give tello another chance if this one doesn’t work then it’s back to my phantom and Mavic and 3inc quad.

Will the Tello lift a keyring? There is a keyring that people attach to their keys and when they misplace them, the person just whistles and the keyring whistles back. I think they should be painted fluro yellow/orange to make them easier to find when they crash. A mini strobe light could be put on them too. (P.S. SKYPILOT - the replacement Gerni handle can be purchased at Bunnings).

I almost bought a Tello but wound up getting the DJI SPARK. Sorry you lost your tello! I always take one of my rc planes with me when I fly my drones and drones when I fly my planes and something goes wrong I just put a bird in the air and always find em. Hopefully there is a way you can find yours!

@@volooooo I fly the HobbyZone super Cub. I can fly low and slow. I have a camera on it so I will fly a grid land then look at he footage off the sd card. I lost one of my drones and I activated find my drone and it took me all around it. So I put up the plane looked at the footage and it was 25 yards from where my drone actually was. I guess any plane will work.

I've lost mine too but different story, it was with a better repeater (TP-Link Nano 750Mbps 5ghz), 10m in front of me but almost 25 meters height, wifi became weak, i go down only but it straf also, then signal lost, battery was more than 25%. It seems that above 20 meters if signal is weak it strafe somewhere as a stupid drunk and as signal is weak you lose control of it, maybe the reason that the Tello official app don't allow more than 10 meters height? After some test I think the Tello should always stay in sight and less than 15 meters to be safe.

I got an android tablet and it runs TelloFPV great. It is an amazing app and I love the return home feature. Don’t want to risk taking my little Tello higher than 10 meters so not tested high altitudes yet

Bad luck with the loss, I was watching those battery levels drop and noticed you were referring to the transmitter battery level instead of the quad battery which was at about 30% when the transmitter was still at 70%.. 12% is too low to do anything, best to set minimum at at least 25% or more. At low battery voltages the current required to fly is higher so the rate of depletion increases, decreasing your time proportionally.. Keep looking though, it's there somewhere..

Sorry to hear that you lost your Tello or did you? The reason I ask is at the end of the video you are displaying the video from the Tello being upside down with the signal level increasing so clearly you were close enough to it to get video from it again. If you had simply walked in front of the camera view you would have been able to have found it! I also noticed at 12:35 into the video the text you posted "Lost my DJI Tello??" as in to question Did I in fact lose my Tello or did I find it on my last look see? Either way I hope you found it Brother, I hate to see anyone lose their bird!

100% pilot error, You know...Why did you pulled back the lever when you're about to fall into the trees? I just want to share one thing, A couple of hours before when I was flying it just suddenly crashed in front of my house I saw the video of why it crashed - It's because GRASS was flying in my way so it caused the crash!!!

Hah, i watch this couse i lost my Tello yesterday...( Anyways im 14 and have had my tello for 4 months by the time of the crash. It was pretty windy yesterday and i made a bad decision to fly my Tello at 30m hight. I've done it before and so i did not expect something to go wrong, since i had the Mi Extender, meaning i had good signal. Suddenly the wind became so intense that the Tello couldn't even resist and activeted autolanding. I was flying with slow mode so basically my attempts to fly against the wind were pointless. (It happened so fast that i could not switch the modes). ...And so, it crashed into some trees. I was searching for hours and found nothing. The tello couldn't start the motors becouse it was flipped upside down (thats what the app said) and so i couldn't hear and find it. The last transmitted image were just sticks and leaves, nothing else. And in case you're wondering those trees in which my Tello drifted, are HUGE pine trees. It seems like it's stuck somewhere very high and might already be broken, due to the humidity of the last night. Its most likely to be wet from the inside. (Was flying with the original Tello App) And YEET, idk why i wrote this whole thing lol. Sry for my English btw, im Russian)

Bummer. Yep. The Tello uses solid ground to assist with positioning. If you fly too close to water you will drink it. I showed this also in another video. Cheers for sharing mate!

It seems like this was a simple Piloting error, not cause for Tello owners to beware. I'm truly sorry that you had a bad experience, that day, but, I think that your video's title may be misleading. I was REALLY interested in hearing about your usage of the WiFi repeater, but, you fast forwarded right over that segment of the video, without even touching on it. I'm not trying to be critical. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the tips! I have done other WiFi repeater videos outlining setup and usage of the repeater. This was a simple range test only. Oh and yes it is 100% piloting error as mentioned at the end of the video. At no time did I pass the blame onto DJI. The error made was that I believed i was fast travelling forward to my home location where as in actual fact I was travelling away......fast away! Pretty decent range hey. Cheers for your time. SP.

Yike.... I know the feeling.... Review and study any recorded fpv footage and try to see where it landed.... There should also be google map positioning that may be useful. Hope this helps..
