Tello FPV App Features Part 1 - What is it?

The Ryze Tello drone has been around for a long while now and it is still one of my favourites, well, thanks to Mark Pugh we have a new app to look at (I explain more in the video). This is the Tello FPV app and it can be found on Google Play (URL's below), and is a new way to control your quadcopter and adds a lot of features including VR and RTH. This is part 1 in a series of Tello FPV videos that will show how to use this app as well as what features are good to use and which ones aren't as good. In this Tello fpv app review video we start off by taking off and then looking at the features on the face of this app before trying the RTH features as well as taking video and photos. This app is mostly shot using the screen recording on my Huawei android tablet.

It's better than the Tello app, it got my Tello off the shelf for a while at least. Thanks JD. actually I'm knee-deep into ground based toys at the moment (X-Maxx) so I haven't used all the features yet---- it is really brilliant. updated some more today. Love your vids my friend

What a great little app JD!. Its so refreshing to see something like this, whoever created it obvisouly has a passion for this quad. Everything seemed to be at hand and easy to view, and I love how the app used all the sensors on the Tello, the many there are to create something really special! Fabulous!

Hi JD, are you using repeater? If yes, how you select from the Wifi menu...is it ssid for Wifi repeater OR ssid for Tello itself?

Great vid, Have you or anybody else tried the ios version of this, is Rainer Bischof (app store)ook volta (playstore) ? or will i need an android to reap the benefits of the app?

A few more comments since I have watched this app evolving since it was announce back in December. On POI lock you read the : You can use throttle roll and pitch. But the first thing you do is yaw, which deactivated the autopilot. RTH descending: It descends if you activated that option AND it is at an altitude >1.5m. Wifi strength: Your device has extremely weak wifi. My S5 reaches 50m distance before dropping to 40dB. Your bluetooth is active and causes this huge mess of garbage on the screen. Switch it off and you will see a major difference in video quality. The exhaustive PDF manual would have clarified all the troubles you had. Check it under menu - help. BTW: Take off the prop guards and gain a minute more flight time and far less jello.

you should switch off bluetooth to reduce the video interference. Then get a wifi extender to improve signal stability. Read the manual, it has lots of info. the version you are using is already outdated. A lot of things have changed in the latest version, and video quality has vastly improved.

Thanks Frank, this video was recorded a fortnight ago so any updates will e covered in later videos. I already have an extender and that video will be coming later, wanted to show that app and Tello in a default configuration so people k own what to expect 'out of the box' do to speak. 🙂👍

Make sure your Tello is up to-date, same for the App. If you bought it recently then i would say it is up to date. Once i updated my Tello all frame skipping stopped. Hope that helps :-)

The app launched my Tello to 20 meters high and turned of the propellers and it did it twice so I deleted the app
