Really old video, and I see ppl already commented on it, but CDJ-mode is the main mode I use. Its the best method to set an accurate cuepoint since the "stutter" helps you hear exactly where in the beat (base drum for instance) you are. Also if you play tracks for 90 seconds or less you can nudge the jogwheel from above rather from the side for quicker mixing. Generally only use VINYL-mode when trying to scratch (Im no good) or using vinylbraks etc for transitions or effects.

At 34:18 he has the deck (right) one cued. i.e, he has the red button pressed in the mixer, and also the volume fader for that channel is down, so how can the house speaker be playing the sound?
@djwolde5 жыл бұрын
at 33:50 he sais that we are listening to the headphones, so its actually not the house spakers you are hearing. everything is as it should.

very straightforward and detailed explanation :) Thank u ;) the tracks used sounding quite awkward ;P
@anupkodlekere96258 жыл бұрын
man this is so confusing. So, I'll do a step by step rundown. At 34:00 He plays the song on deck A 34:05 Decreases the volume down to only headphones 34:12 He finds the downbeat on deck B. First Doubt: This finding of downbeat would be heard only by the DJ through his headphones WHILE the song on deck A would be playing in his headphone as well as house speakers. 34:20 He plays the entire song to beatmatch(again, through his headphones, only audible to him). 34:42 He mixes the cued song on deck b with the song on deck a. Again, the mixing of track on deck b with the track on deck a is done in his headphones, both the tracks only audible to him, deck A audible to the audience. 36:14 The house speakers play both song on deck a and deck b. 36:16 The vol. of deck b is increased. Is that correct? In short, the track on deck A is played everywhere, headphones, and house speakers. But the track on B is played in the house speakers only when he removes the cue in the mixer. Until then whatever he does on the mixer, it's just audible to him right? Am I in correct shape?

just another question(sorry for so many). so anything that we (people watching on yt) hear from deck b between 34:10 and 36:14, we are not supposed to hear it right? we are supposed to hear it only when he removed the cue and increased the volume right, if he did the same steps not to teach but to dj

+Pyramind IN REPLY TO THE EMAIL: So you mean, you purposely sent it out to another AI so that we can hear the "Work in Progress"? And in reality, a persion (DJ) will be the one one who will hear the track on deck b when the cue on that channel is lit and the volume fader is down. Right? Another doubt. He got the volume down on deck A(he got the knob towards cue). Now, I want to mix two tracks. One on deck a and another on deck b. I have my headphones plugged in. I want the song on deck a to be playing out loud in the house speakers (for this point, forget the booth monitors) as well as in my headphones. AND, I want to be able to hear the song on deck b which I will be mixing next. Only I should hear the one on deck B. How do I do that?

Hmmm.... you're very good at explaining, but you should be very careful when expressing an opinion about things you don't know anything about, and as this was released in 2015 when the Nexus already had been out for 3 years, showing these players without using Rekordboxed prepared music is just wrong. It makes me believe you have none or very little experience of this gear used as stand alone units, because you're probably coming from a software background and has no idea of how they really work. You show them as they were a couple of CDJ-1000Mk3's. For example, memory points and other prepared data is not stored on 'a' SD-card, wich was the way on the CDJ-1000's. On all 2000-models they are stored with the RB database info on the same media as the music. That also includes hot cues and hot loops. Only if you use CD's you will have to use a separate media device to store memory points. The players will NOT help you when setting loops, unless you have RB'd prepared music, as Quantize is a RB function only. Otherwise you will have to manually adjust the loop the same way as have been done since the 90's. The use of CDJ-mode is far more beneficial than using the vinyl mode, in my opinion, and I HAVE done the the journey using real vinyl for 10 years, CD's for 14 years and since 2009 I use USB devices to store my music. Now at 50, I do on average 15-20 gigs/month in clubs where Pioneer pro gear is standard. Vinyl emulation is not anywhere the same as using real vinyl on a turntable, so that is not a reason to use vinyl mode. If you mainly play house music or other styles where it's unlikely you will use scratching, vinyl mode is just dum to use. Yes, I know that for some people it is easier to set cue points using vinyl mode, but setting the cue points in Rekordbox will save you from that ;) , and you can have up to 10 memory cue points stored on every track. The reason to use CDJ mode is that you will set the cue point exactly on the frame, the same way every time, but requires you to learn how to listen. That makes good timing on pressing start extremely useful, as I never or very rarely need to adjust the oncoming track, to the point where I have no problem starting the new track, faders fully engaged when I need to. Using vinyl mode, the cue will only almost be the same every time and accordingly you will have to adjust the speed on every transition, just like when playing vinyl two and a half decade ago. Not to mention what happens when the occasional punter put his hand on the jog asking if he can play... Back to Rekordbox. I had the CDJ-900 at first, and I really didn't understand the importance of Rekordboxed prepared music coming from, and still using CD's, until I got my 2000 Nexus's. But it took about 5 minutes to realize that almost every feature on them required the use of RB'd prepared music files, as they really are disguised computers, just in the form of a CDJ. The original 2000 is more related to the CDJ-1000Mk3 than the Nexus on a complete comparison, but even the original 2000 benefits a lot from using RB'd prepared music. This should also have been mentioned in this video or at least explained. But, as I said, I think you're a software DJ at heart (TRAKTOR). As you said in the first video, ''players are traditionally called ''A'' and ''B''... no they are not, but it is what they are called inside TRAKTOR. The rest of us call them player or turntable 1, 2... since decades. Please, in the future, keep to facts and tell when you have no clue or when it's your own personal opinion based on how you prefer to use the equipment. People who know nothing will take everything you say as facts, and will be disappointed later when discovering things you said as not true, just a personal preference.
