Wow! I remember watching this video so long ago when it was new. I was 9 at the time, and after seeing this, saved for two years to afford a Traxxas Slash. I mean, it wasn't a mud bogger, it was brushed with 2 wheel drive, but it was so much fun. I have since moved into college, and am revisiting a lot of old videos for nostalgia purposes. what i would do is not go fast because it will make more mud come onto the wheels if you go fast and then you get stuck

Its unreal that people have little better to do than ridicule a video that is titled appropriately. We as enthusiasts don't ridicule the videos of you playing with Barbies. I, as a father of a little girl, play Barbie with her too, but my son thinks this is the coolest thing since PB and j. Cool mud run guys. DJMedic, have you tried a MT4 in the mud yet? I relize its not the close to scale neat trucks you run but I bet it would be a riot for sure. WInd it up and the tires baloon out and I bet the rooster tails would be the best! We run ours in the snow right now but she lifts wheelies off of the snow and ice like nothing. Its amazing. Electric motors have more torque in the low RPM range, while nitro engines top out at mid-range. Also, an air-cooled nitro engine would overheat without airflow moving over the motor. Custom nitro rock crawlers exist, but they're not practical.

Mud will kill an engine, and electrics can be made waterproof too. Electrics have more torque, thats more instant too

What type of truck is the black one with paddle tires? SCX10? I plan on getting an SCX10 honcho soon (possibly tomorrow) and modding it a good bit. I want to lift it and put some 2.2's with super swampers or tractor like tires on it. Seems fun! All I have at the moment is a T-max 2.5 upgraded to a 3.3. Just good for the racing, not mudding or rock crawling. SUBSCRIBED! Love the vids!

Nitro would do what is called "bog out" which is pretty much flooding the exaust pipes, fuil lines and will mess up the gearing. Nitros aren't protected as much as electrics out of the box or even modified. Most Nitro or gas powered RC cars would also need much more tuning other than an exaust pipe and air filter. A tip to help expain, would to buy or just brows threw a Truck, ATV, or Mud crawler mag and see what modifications you need just to do it in real life. It's just more complicated in RC

Electric doesn't need air to keep running. Granted, it'll need cooling, but nitro/gas will get gagged out because the air filter will be stopped up after 10-30 seconds. Not to mention you'll intake mud and garbage into the carb and then into the engine, then needing a full teardown to get it functioning again, and even then the engine is screwed for life. Electric is far less maintenance, and can be nearly waterproofed entirely. The more you know.

dj, got some sweet trick for a smaller drifter!! take the body off and put some led lights in it, headlights, tail lights, or those sweet ones that glow out of the bottom sides(i couldnt remember what they were called), makes them real awesome looking, you can also buy a monitor to have glow patterns for the bottom side lights... thanks for making your videos man!!

ic powered engine develop all there power at the top end, so they would have to be revving there nuts off, electric motors have the same torque all the way throo the RPM range, so there for in muid u can go slow and still have power :) , a geared down petrol motor would be jsut as effective but have no low speed power

Looks like a lot of fun man! You built an amazing rig for it as well. I am just wondering why you didn't swap out the tires for the different events. Wouldn't you want grip the earth more in the climb, tug o war, and tank trap sections? It seemed the paddles cling more than grip. When and where is this event? Near BC?

Medic i need a little help i have my scx 10 with tekin fxr esc and 35t whenever i punch the throttle from a dead stop it doesnt go ful power right away it goes ike 1/4 power then all the sudden jumps to full power

@Timisso1337 Nitro motors don't have the slow speed control or torque for crawling, and water and mud can get in the engine and ruin it. As for general offroad use it's just not the trend right now

The nitros produce more speed. You need traction and torque to do uphill/mudding. And anyways, if you do it right you can waterproof an electric easy. Not so much with a nitro.

Because Electrics have way better technology than they used to over Nitros....Most are waterproof and have higher low end torque with changes in gear ratios.
