Novak Djokovic has accepted a wildcard into the Geneva Open 2024 as a last chance to get some form before teh second slam of the year at Roland Garros 2024. He will join Ruud and Fritz in the event. Is this a good idea for Nole?

Its a tune-up tournament for him. As long as he does not get injured or exhausted, then its a good plan.

That is the issue. He missed Canadian Masters and Shanghai Masters last year citing exhaustion after playing two weeks of tennis at Wimbledon and US Open respectively. Now he is playing 3 weeks of tennis (with potentially 4 matches in 7 days) with only 3 weeks of rest before Wimbledon. It is a big gamble that he will find form in this tournament and not over exert himself given the proximity between FO and Wimbledon.

True its not an ideal situation. The GOAT is in an unusual situation-- coachless and without a finals win yet in 2024. Him playing at an ATP 250 before RG speaks a lot about his lack of confidence at this point.

I think that Joker is in great need of confidence and form* -- not just physical form, but also mental sharpness. He's not played much this year, partially because of his choice and the other aspect is that he's been eliminated in earlier rounds. Aside from the GS AO where he placed in the semis, he's not been playing well all year. If he doesn't change things around and place high at RG or at the Olympics, expect an announcement or his retirement by year's end. He's a HUGE competitor who's used to winning results and will not continue on this losing path for much long. I believe it's to his advantage to play this ATP 250 event, heading into Bigger ones.

Excellent call for Novak. RG '24 is a BIG opportunity for him with Alcaraz and Sinner ailing, and former clay court threats like Rune and Stefanos not living up to past promise. Nadal playing on one foot. Etc ... Could be an easy major for him to pick up

@@gabyhalim3417 you're spot on with the last part. It's exactly due to the unplanned early exits of the tournaments he did enter that he needs Geneva. He failed to go deep into the rounds and therefore didn't get the match play needed to be have a real shot at winning the main event. There's always the chance of injury at any of the warm up tournaments but players know that they need to play in order to accumulate both points and experience in order to contend for the GS event.

I do not like this at all. He should not be playing tournament so close to RG. Better to train and rest well for Paris, and simply accept the fact he is lacking matches. I do not like this for Novak. He would demolish them all on RG without this tournament.

I would like much more if he went to Paris early and start to train hard and get used to conditions. Early rounds should be enough confidence booster for him.
