I have the 2003 125hp Mercury motor, The 90, 115 and 125hp motors all have the same oil tank for everyone's information. I would like to congratulate Treasure Adventure Hunter for his comprehensive video. I was particularly interested in the fix mentioned and I have done this to my oil bottle with great success. For those interested this is how I did it because I needed to make a few special hack tools. Step 1, get a piece of threaded rod half inch with enough length to reach the bottom of the tank and some more, screw on 2 nuts to the bottom, Take a largish half inch washer and cut a section out to the center making a U shape. This is then placed on the side of the threaded rod between the nuts and tightened. You now have a hook to force the spring washer up and out. ( Note only the spring clip) Not the float. My spring washer broke and I needed to get one similar from a store. Now that the spring washer is off you can turn the bottle upside down and a float and flexible magnet washer will fall out. Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces and glue together. I used Gorilla Glue. Using a thin long rod and some double sided tape place the repaired float back in place in the bottle, Note the magnet is on the bottom of the float. Placing the new spring washer was done with a piece of copper water pipe 6mm. I placed some double sided tape on the end to hold the washer, placed / fixed the spring washer to that and placed it over the plastic mount. Just a small tap with a light hammer was needed to engage the spring washer, not too much. Test and install into the boat. I trust this will help others and I thank Treasure Adventure Hunters

If I disconnect the sensor, how can I tell if the motor is still getting oil from the tank? I don’t want to disconnect sensor and run motor only to discover that it is a bad oil pump. Is there a way to determine that the motor is getting oil without running motor for hours??
@djpitr3 жыл бұрын
Well , disconnecting the sensor is option u can do if you don’t want to fix it , when u disconnect and keep eyes on your oil in your tank , like every time you fill gas fill the oil tank also , you should be fine , the sensor das not tell you if your engine is getting oil or not , only if you have oil in your tank or not . The only way I can tell your engine is getting oil is to see the engine lightly smoke from muffler and to see your oil level going slowly down after driving it , I’m not aware of any sensor that will let you know that the oil pump is not working or the gas is not being mixed with oil .. the next sensor in that case would be the overheating one .
@cookiemonsterman5042 жыл бұрын
@@djpitr, and in that case, the engine would be pissing boiling hot water most likely! Correct?
@djpitr2 жыл бұрын
@@cookiemonsterman504 well probably , what happens in many cases with boat engines is that they overheat when the water pump don’t work right , there can be some trash sucked in and restricted water flow , if your engine peeing nice strong stream of water the water pump is good and engine should not be overheating, only way I see that stream of water was really boiling hot is some major problem like crack head gasket .

Will that sensor stop the boat from running or starting? My boat started up but kinda struggled at first then ran idle for 10 mins and then shut off and started it up a few time and I had the push the knob on the throttle to keep it running but as soon as I tried to put it in neutral it shut off did that a few times and then I got the beeping

Awesome and thank you as I am able to nail the problem to the oil tank float assembly. The tank assembly from Mercury is on back order until November. In the meantime I plan to use the Mercury without the sensor and to keep an eye on the oil level. Question : Just removing the small screw under the tank holding the magnetic sensor probe and taking the probe out will do the job or do I need to disconnect the wires (two blue wires) leading to the probe? The wire appears to be complicated to remove as it seems fused together. I am not much mechanically inclined. Please advice. Thanks

FYI - If you chose to detach the two wires to stop the buzzer, be aware that one is for the oil sensor and one is for the heat sensor. Therefore the peeping alarm could be the heat sensor as in my case not low oil sensor.

So disconnect one at a time and see which one, if any, stops the beep.

So the wires that go from the alarm module to the oil level sensor also receive engine temperature data? I'm having difficulty reconciling that...
@getitdone66943 жыл бұрын
Question on mine there is a module to the left of the tank and if I leave it plugged in the engine stops. It's about 7 inches to the left at the bottom. I unplugged the wire and engine starts. That is part of the warning system but I thought the buzzing is not continuous but intermittent for oil. It is continuous for overheating.

So I have a 2013 Mercury Optimax 90 and the buzzer only alarms constantly when I get above 15 mph. Then it doesn’t seem to want to throttle up, is that normal for a low oil warning? The tank is full and it’s peeing fine and not running hot

If you go out for a day and the motor runs for a couple hours, how much oil do you burn out of the tank? Mine has this same problem and I disconnected the sensor but I’m wondering if the sensor has anything to do with how much oil the motor gets. Seems like mine is burning a lot of oil. About 15 gallons of gas and burns about half tank of oil.

I depends how much u drive, it uses lot of oil , in day of driving ease 2-3inch of oil should be used ,and no this is only warning sensor that you need oil if the tank get low , or the flout brakes :) .. you are fine just disconnect it and keep eyes on oil every day you go out with it
