Trailer changes are life saver, Dave check the payload plate on the transit, as I believe that as long as your gross train weight covers, your ok. My pickup is 2930kg Inc it's normal payload, but rated for gross train of 5730kg ( take away the 2930 leaves 2800kg for my trailer size). Watch what trailer you use to what your vehicle is rated to, so as above I can only tow the 2700 kg trailers not the 3500 kg as the vehicle isn't rated (this overules the 3500kg licence bit, so be careful as you can be legally stopped). This licence change has completely changed my business and helped me so much. Love your videos as it shows me where I want to grow towards

Hi lads The trailer reserch is a hard one took me ages to get my head around it but basically u are right by off you passed your test befor a certain day you don't need to sit the B+E towing test wheres I had to do mine because I passed my driving test in 2005, Best way I found was to Google the (train weight) basically the van and trailer combined can't exceed more than 6 tonne but that is including the weight of the van and trailer empty!! So basically you can carry 1 tonne on your flat bed which will add up to about 3.5 tonne so say for example your heavy steel trailer weight 1, tone that means adding the 3.5 tonne flat bed with the load on and your 1 tonne trailer all you have left remaining is 1.5 which is what load you can carry on the trailer!! Basically train weight is the load combined with your vehicle and trailer, but be aware to check the plate on your trailer as each trailer has its own carrying capacity meaning the (load) so for example if your trailer has a 2.3 tonne gross and it weighs 1 tonne technically you can only carry a load of 1.3 tonne, I'd really check the specification of the trailer weights which is normally some sort of plate attached to the jockey wheel area, Also off most modern driving license to can tow with on the new licences but only of up to a weight of 750kg I think including the trailer weight which basically would be a small camping trailer with a tent and camping equipment, It's a dull area probably took me weeks of research on Google but if they haven't got the licence they wil need the B+E towing licence that covers you of a train weight up to 6 tone Hope this helps you guys I watch your vlogs every week keep up the good work/banter Liam from South Shields - (Geordie land) 👍👌🤙

For Dad: mount two fiberglass reflectors on the rear corners of the trailer. They are about 4 feet long and should enable seeing the rear of the trailer. We use these to locate driveways when it snows deeply. Worst case great for my trailer.

Look at the v5 to see how much each vehicle can tow but also what the max train weight can be so the combined weight of the transit and trailer. So for example my transit custom can tow a maximum of 2.8 ton but the weight of the van and trailer can’t go over 5.1 ton so if my van was fully laden at 2.9 ton I can only tow a trailer weighing 2.2 ton. Hope that makes sense! The max train weight should be on the door pillar on the passenger side. You may also need tachos in the transits as with the trailer you’re over 3.5 ton but I’m not 100% about that!

good watch! as for trailer, it doesn't matter how much weight you have on either the truck or trailer as long as neither are overweight, ie. you can have a ton on the truck and still carry the trailers gross weight aslong as the total gross weight of truck and trailer doesnt exceed 7t, youll also want a tacho fitted in the truck for pulling the trailer as anything over 750kg on a trailer for hire and reward needs tacho now :)

The GTW of the older transits is 6t so you can tow 3.5t if the transit is empty but if you want the transit loaded to 3.5t you can tow 2.5t

When driving a vehicle which is over 3.5 ton loaded (Such as Dropside/Tipper pulling a trailer) you will require a Tachograph. If you have a dropside/Tipper towing a Braked trailer you can tow up to 3.5 ton. This towing weight is including the net weight of the Trailer. i.e if the trailer weights 1.2ton then your payload is 2.3 ton.

Trailer details are correct be sure to remember the speed limit for towing is lower and is there for safety more than anything - i.e. taking a corner or bend faster can cause a trailer to topple. It also affects the take off speed dependant on weight it's carrying?

I actually rang dvla about same question. As long as you have BE on your license they told me that I could drive a 3.5 ton vehicle with a trailer weighing 3.5 ton ( obviously checking towing capacity of the vehicle)

We have a Nissan cab star in my opinion the best trailer pulling vehicle ever made It has a train weight of 7ton combined so 3:5 gross for trailer and 3.5 ton fro truck Without a taco as long as your line of work falls within the category of groundwork which fencing does within 50 miles of your yard So check your manufacturers combined weight for Ford transit and that should tell you the permitted weight to run your pickup hope this helps

Having driven many thousands of miles all over the UK and Europe for many years pulling a trailer, take a bit of advice, if I may on the front corner posts of the headboard mount a five-foot extension of wood or steel on each side to aid visibility when reversing.

Believe you right is 3half tonne combined. But the tacho part is not correct to my believe. Example... I would hardly fit tachograph to tow a caravan.

To check your GCW gross combination weight which is the total permitted weight of the vehicle trailer and everything they are carrying check you can check the van and trailer chassis plates or look or your V5C Depends on weight on trailer if you need brakes. Over 751kg u need brakes trailer. Dependent upon which year or engine size is will also determine which trailers you can tow size wise

Hi Dave on the towing it all about the GTV in the vechile plate stand for the gross train weight .this is vechicle max weight plus what it can tow for example van 3500kg . GTV 6000kg . Means can tow 2500kg

Trailer will make a massive difference to you I'm sure and with a bit of training everyone will do fine 👍. No need to moan at B&P, they need to use whoever can get the job done at the time! They're good lads. Ipad was better than nothing Dave lol, wasn't that bad to be fair. Looks easy to get lost in that quarry lol. People do like to give you the difficult jobs Dave but expertly done as usual 🙂. Driveway looks good now finished and the fence install is brilliant, looking forward to the Wednesday special fence install aswell.

first look at the plate on the towing vehicle find what the M,A.M (maximum authorised mass) weight is. This the very maximum the towing vehicle is designed to carry. Then connect the trailer with no load on the trailer or van fill it with fuel and people take it to a weighbridge get it weighed with everyone in it. Deduct the weibridge weight from the M.A.M weight and that is the maximum weight you can put on the van and trailer. But your axle weight still count so you would have to be careful how you spread the weight. Also be careful of when people passed there test after Jan 1997 the maximum they can drive is 3.5T so if the van weight is 2T and the trailer weight is 1T then you could only put on 0.5T of goods on. But if they passed before Jan 1997 M.A.M applies (sometimes also called train weight) which the max M.A.M for the licence is 8.25T hope this helps

Quality of video on the ipad was as good as any other device in my opinion the sound quality however is a different matter. With the camera facing you it was fine but facing whatever you were filming i could barely hear you. Had to turn the tv up which isnt good @11.30pm when everyone is sleeping. Those morehens are doing a cracking job building the bank/island up. Another great video.
