Boeing is pleading guilty to criminal charges over the 737 MAX crashes that killed 346 because it failed to properly inform the FAA on its MCAS. Meanwhile, the Federal Aviation Administration has issued a new airworthiness directive that requires over 2,000 Boeing 737 aircraft to be inspected.

It’s media blowing up Boeing Blunders and not really talking much about Airbus Accidents. I’ve flown on a few MAXs and they are actually quite nice. What I don’t understand is at the first moment those downed planes pilots had elevator issues why they didn’t just flick the 2 stab trim switches to off? Did they do that but mcas still took control of pitch?
@Imlegitthatonedude
@Imlegitthatonedude Ай бұрын
On Lion Air 610, the pilots were not informed about the MCAS system. So, they didn't know there was a switch to stop it. On Ethiopian 302, they actually managed to turn it off during the 2nd dive. However, turning it off means that they have to re-trim the plane manually by cranking the wheel by hand. Because they were going so fast, the aerodynamic forces were too strong to fight against, so eventually, they crashed.

I am still unsure why Boeing opted to retain the ancient 737 fuselage over the much newer 757 - had they put the engines on the 757, there would have been no need to MCAS and that would have been a better solution - shorten the fuselage to a -800 (or -8) size and it’s the best of both worlds. My suspecion is that the 737 was more profitable and thus the choice to go that route.
@toms1348
@toms1348 Ай бұрын
The reason is quite simple really. By 2003 the 757 order book had dried up. They hadn't gotten an order for a new 757 after that...and there wasn't any on the horizon. Between 2000-2003, they received only 87 total orders. So Boeing stopped production. The 737 had a significant backlog, and orders still coming in with solid volume. With production lines still humming along, it was the only narrowbody Boeing had. Plus...al of the 757 tooling was destroyed. The 757 is my favorite aircraft. It's a marvelous piece of engineering. However, it really isn't built for the eco-friendly fuel sipping demands of today. So, it'd need more than just re-engining. They'd really need a cleab sheet design.

@artrandy
@artrandy Ай бұрын
@@toms1348 With all due respect, you haven't explained why the 757 wasn't developed further instead of the 737. In fact your reply defies logic. If the 757 production line was becoming idle, then wouldn't that be a perfect time to take on a new development of the existing aircraft and NOT destroy the tooling? If at the time the 737 was still selling well, then let that continue until the 757 Max was ready, when both production lines could have shared manufacture. What appears to have happened, is that the management terminated the 757 line because they had no 757 Max on the drawing board and couldn't hang around. They had to destroy the tooling. Maybe they anticipated a clean sheet design, but then decided to develop an existing airframe, in order to cut costs. With the 757 capacity destroyed, it had to be the 737. That's a fault of management again. Im no expert on Boeing, but I am logical, and this version makes more sense to me................

I still don't understand why Boeing is in the hot seat. Shouldn't the company that these airlines use to maintain their aircraft, be the ones in the hot seat. Sounds like they weren't doing their job in asking the right questions and bringing any concerns forwards to the appropriate people.

Boeing as a manufacturing company owns the product liabilities (including qa/qc). Yes end users (airlines) do need to perform their due diligence in utilizing those products as per industry standards and make sure crews are well trained. This is reflective of the recent anemic sales by Boeing against Airbus. Pray for the victims of the crashes and their families.

@@deansaid937 Definitely not saying Boeing isn’t part of the problem. The issues with the KC-46 Pegasus, and now Starliner, the company as a whole is really falling apart. Starts at the top and trickles down.

Terrible news for Boeing! 😂😂 This 'news' is 2 weeks old, Boeing pretty much got away with another slap in the wrist. The lawyers of the victims wanted Boeing to pay USD 24 billion, which is flat out insane, but so is a less than 300 million dollar fine. Regarding the 737 AWD, as usual, this vlogger tries to paint the issue in the worst light possible. It was Boeing who first notified airlines, back in early June, so over a month ago, before the FAA made it a directive. Apparently, Boeing switched vendors of the adhesive straps they use to secure the oxygen units in 2019, and recently observed that some of the units had shifted by three quarters of an inch, so Boeing is going back to the original vendor. There's nothing that would cause any of the repairs, if necessary, to exceed the $85 reported, but on this channel, the worse it looks for Boeing, the better. SMH.

It’s Alaska airlines, not Alasker. I know you’re from Australia, but if you’re going to be speaking internationally please try to hear how the word is spoken in the country of origin speak clearly. Also, it’s not always the manufacturer. The airlines have a responsibility to educate their pilots. I have 6 airline captains friends who fly domestically and global and they’ve all said this wouldn’t have happened here in the US. The news media which you are now part of have been relentless on Boeing. Doesn’t matter if the oil is low or a tire falls off, the media always points the finger at Boeing. Use common sense before opening your mouth. Think instead of a knee jerk reaction. Thank you

Old news? What has it been? Three days since the guilty plea? Yeah, he is way behind the curve. Oh, I guess he hates Airbus too, since he reports on all their missteps. They just haven't had many lately, other than supply delays. You must not be a long time follower of this channel.
