No other DJ has inspired me as much as Chris when it comes to gear and strategy of gigs. Like some others have said here in the comments, this is a video I re-visit from time to time... Great guy!

When someone says "Haha DJs got no talent. They only push the play button bla bla", show them this. I bet they will start crying after seeing 3 or 4 decks are online at the same time. Chris is the man.

Bro... I make Dj-ing since 1996-97. The real Shit, with Vinyl. Not that modern Auto-Sync-Computer-Bullshit. And i Play Elektro Guitar to. And belive me... Dj-ing is NOTHING compared to Play an Instrument. Dj-ing is maybe not that easy like some People think. But Play an Instrument is a COMPLETTE differend League. If you have a good Teacher/Mentor. You can mix Vinyls after ... maybe 2 weeks. To Play a Guitar you Need Minimum 2 Years. And even than, you are not good. You are just Abele to Play a few Songs.

Karl S. I guess we both agree that using the sync button takes away the fun of mixing. But if you're gonna play a live-set using ableton/multiple decks, the sync button helps a lot as it makes sure that your tracks/samples/STEMs are tight and in time. That way, you can concentrate more on creating great sounds on stage.

+Al Bundy, the technology is here to help the artists out, not because it's easier, lol. if you're a shit DJ on Vinyl you won't be suddenly good with CDJs just because they have more features and are overall more reliable than turntables...

This man rocks! Completely forges his own path. He started when the only option was Vinyl, was amazing with that, & rather than bitching & dismissing the tech, he's embracing it and having fun being uniquely creative & trying new things.Very inspiring,and good of him to show us what's going on!Music is about self expression and FUN,and we all have our own individual ideas of what is fun for us & enjoy our own things. Keep rocking Liebing! :D

Considering Chris has been in the techno-scene for such a long time, he was playing with vinyl for a very very very very long time and probably is still able to do so. This set up just takes it to a higher level. Gotta look at it as if it is an addition, not a replacement.

in a way/to some extent, he's not just replacing records but tracks themselves, which is interesting from a commercial standpoint because if taken to a full extent, the selling point would be entirely different. going to hear a person play improv(-isational) electornic music (tribal need is also kindof an example of this, more of a street/on th

Chris presents his knowledge in a way, which is comprehensible though we belong to the generation of Technics & Vinyl. A very interesting introduction, how a set works today and the overview of the technical components and effects. We were quite surprised that even for Chris it is not possible to replay a special sound, so creating will go on. Thanks for "teaching" and the good vibes!

Hey mate,I'm a turntable DJ just like u,and I love djing with my 2 turntables and my mixer but when I started producing some stuff with Ableton I found out that even ''live remixing and performing'' is quite funny, because you can make a unique sound and that's great! Maybe you're right, this is not DJing,it's performing,but after several years on vinyls,you start feeling some kind of interest for new devices,it's just evolution.The product is the most important thing,and CL gives a great one :)

a lot of tools, a great producer and dj, but I´ve heard manny dj´s spinning proper techno with just a mixer and two turntables. it´s very cool to do this kind of new shit, all the fx´s the samples and loops and white noises, with minimal techouse, but I still enjoy some proper techno, two or three tracks, banging, with some help of this tools, but not to much. this new techouse-ish hype with its tools and techniques looks very pretty but it gets boring to me. it´s good to ear two fucking records mixed properly, just with the use of faders, knob and fx´s. I love all this tools. and I plan on using them one day, but sometimes it´s too much. besides, it doesn´t always translates good mixing.
@Yourveryowncarrot
@Yourveryowncarrot 10 жыл бұрын
Just because some 1200's and a two channel is simple and kind of old school, doesn't mean it's necessarily better. Boring? You always have something to do and something going on with his style of mixing. It always seems like in between mixing two tracks, you reach a point where you have nothing to do except beat match the next track. With this new method it's both more fun for you and the audience.
@vitormatias1983
@vitormatias1983 10 жыл бұрын
yeap you´re right, but there´s also a point where it´s too much. and not just that, techno used to be powerful, pounding, strong, now it´s this blend of techouse with too much noises and fx´s. not that it´s repetitive or monotonous, it just isn´t much fun, it doesn´t have the techno vibe that I like.
@sidsakid77
@sidsakid77 9 жыл бұрын
If by "techno use to be powerful, pounding, strong" you mean it was a lot faster, then yea you're right. But you can't possibly judge Chris from the tracks used in this clip here (except the last one, called Groove Mechanism). Listen to his sets at Time Warp, Berghain and Awakenings n tell me that's not the kinda techno you're looking for. Liebing is the last guy you look to if all you're looking for is tech-house. He's by far the best techno Dj out there today. He's found an amazing way of sticking to his old school roots, while keep seriously up to date with all that modern technology has to offer.
@kixxalot
@kixxalot 9 жыл бұрын
vitormatias1983 I'm with you 100%. Going to a party for me should be fun! All too often these kinds of Ableton sets are polite, polished, and repetitive: boring and serious rather than fun and entertaining! Really I don't find adding some drums, delay and reverb by pressing pretty blinking buttons terribly entertaining.
@vitormatias1983
@vitormatias1983 9 жыл бұрын
kixxalot exactly. some even leave track mixing beyond and keep playing loops, throughout the entire set, just making shit along, like it´s a live show. if well done it might be cool, but hearing full productions is necessary.

People seem to be getting the wrong impression of this kind of "DJing" ... Technology has taken REAL artists away from the monotony of just mixing two tracks together, and turned it into a real live performance, Where you are not just hearing a guy mixing other peoples music, But creating his own whilst on stage. This is a whole new definition of "DJing" and should not even be compared to the small minded confines of just decks and a mixer! Move with the times people, Man is a legend!

I use pretty much the same setup with maschine, but runnning as Standalone. If i'd use it inside of ableton, how would I go in order to output effects to my sends and returns on my mixer? it would be actually really helpful, having a reverb on my mixer, that way i'd have one more effect on my controller. Plus, I really dont like traktor's reverb, id love to use my Lexicon... anybody?
