Nice! I've done similar to my trailers and equipment trucks. One suggestion: Wire the switch at the back of the trailer, so you can access it even when the trailer is packed full of gear. Adding lights on the outside/back of trucks and trailers is probably the most useful thing I've done to aid load out on dark nights. Thanks for sharing John!

Nice. Thanx for showing. A lot of us installed a small 12Vdc battery inside the trailer. Then connected the new 12 volt LED lights to a switch, fuse & the battery. This way we can control the new interior lights even when the tow vehicle is not connected or connected. And so we do not have to turn on the tow vehicle's lights and maybe ignition for say when we are in the trailer doing what ever and do not have to worry about the tow vehicle. The battery is very small physically (can hold it in 1 hand) , is light weight and goes all summer long without a charge as the LED's draw next to no amps of power.

Nice work! Pro-tip put in a 3way switch on those loading lights. One side get wired to your reverse light pin, the other side to the 12v now they will come while in reverse or can be switched on while loading.

I've been planning to do that with mine.

Hi I wanted to do this but was worried when I wired a switch to my interior lights to put them on manually that they would back feed through my reverse lights wire into trailer plug didn't want to be blowing fuses or anything does a 3 way stop it from back feeding ? TIA.🙏

Add a switch with a controller bro. I have one with two one on front door and one on my truck keys. I even click my trailer lights on when we get home at night I have some exterior lights installed but all my lights are ran to a 12v battery, so I can use it even when the trailer is unhooked

Thanks for the simple video John. I’m just now getting into lighting for our 8.5x20. We’re going to haul our HD sidecar bike around to National Parks next year. We’re sleeping in it also so, the separate light switches will come in handy.

I know this listing is a little over a year ago but in my personal opinion if he had installed the reverse lights under the drip rail there would have been a less chance of any leakage, also needed to used some rubber grommets in order to prevent chafing of the wires.

This is exactly what I'm planning on doing to my Utility trailer. Question: I'd like to tie in a 12v battery to these lights. So when trailer is not connected to truck, lights would still be functional. Can you advise a way to do that?

I love the idea of the rear lights. It never even dawned on me to do that. That would come in handy for myself. Most of the time when I load up the trailer and head out it's to go to motorcycle events. And most cases we don't get there until it's dark out. And when we are staying at campgrounds it's really hard to see behind you since campgrounds do not have lights at the campsites. I also love how you mounted that switch inside that light. That's absolutely genius. And you were not kidding about the day and night picture with everything on. You really did a great job. I'd love the purpose of KZbin to allow people to show their way of doing something. like I said about that light switch I would have never thought of doing that. Again you did a fantastic job I look forward to watching more of your videos.

is there a way to have the lights work when it’s not hooked up to the vehicle? An input so you can run an extension cord from the house to the trailer?

John, just a suggestion. Change the plastic vent hood top to a metal one. Those plastic ones will disintegrate after about a year. I did this on my trailer.

I understand this is not your trailer and it is your buddy's. I just came across your video. Your friend is gong to find out right quick it is going to get "old" real quick when he has to stop and get out to flip on reverse lights while the rain is dumping down buckets. A dual system might serve him better, lights come on when reverse circuit of tow vehicle is complete (12v) and once unhooked switched over to another trailer mounted battery (12v) for the loading/extra light out back. Meanwhile back to the rest of your scheduled programming.

Don’t run your wiring above the roof crossmembers. The plywood sheet is a buffer between the aluminum roof and the steel crossmembers. The wiring will abrade and short out.

Good job Woo Pig, but as you said no trailer is built well so don't do as they do... do better. Those wire taps are bad news. They cut the strands each time, so if you start with 18 strands in the front and keep cutting them the whole way back, you may only have a few solid wires (if any) by the time you get to the back. We had to rewire our entire trailer because of those things. There are much better options out there. Thanks for showing us how easy it can be to do some much needed upgrades to our leaky trailers.

I'm doing the same thing with my trailer. I have led lights inside already but I'm going to put the rear outside lights on top. I am planning on using Wago wire connectors. I've heard a lot of good things about those. Have you heard anything about those? They look very easy to use and it doesn't hurt the wire. It's the Wago 221 is what I'm going to use. What do you think?

Did some clown use the wrong color wires? Could you have run the wires along the top of the wall instead of the ceiling so they wouldn't show? Needs more/bigger interior lights in my opinion.

What a nasty cable management. ;) it can be much neater, for instance , tape the wires in a straight line. I hope that sifting or vibriting of the wooden plate slice the cabel at the metal roof beams. Why you dint drill a little hole in de roofbeam en run the wireds tot the sides. ore hang the lights on the left en right side.
