Which supermarket in Ghana serves customers outside? Unless you're a regular which you'll be noticed by your car. If it was just a drink why didn't he enter and make it quick? Since the marts at the gas stations are walk-in shops, I might also argue that the attendants were concerned for their safety. He could've also instructed the kids to call one of the attendants. Simply put, he was being rude, which was wrong. When you honk at some people or flash your lights at them, they don't see that as a signal; they see it as rude.
