DKC4 - Harmony Heaven

Trying to imagine scenarios that don't exist in the original SNES trilogy, we developed this theme that involves the heavens. As it was just a concept to validate a composition idea, the level design is not very advanced.

This scenario, or rather concept, actually exists in the very ending of Donkey Kong Country 3, but despite the random enemies, it was interesting to see that a single screen could be expanded with such creativity!

It's really cool how even though these stages include enemies and assets from all three DKC games they don't ever seem out of place!

The fidelity about the sfx is so great they kept the sounds of the DKC 1 game when the kongs enter the barrels. It's really a minor thing, but it shows the attention to detail of whoever are working on this.

In SVC Chaos, Athena is one of two secret bosses that can only be unlock if you do a speciffic way before the Final Boss. The second secret boss is Firebrand from Ghosts 'n Goblins.

I know of a similar game that does this same gimmick of combining all three donkey Kong country enemies, items, and even the Kongs in one game. But this looks better. This looks better executed. I can't wait to see this as a full game. The one thing that killed the other project at least for me was the monotony and difficulty scaling of the bosses, the only way you damaged them was with TNT and they mostly ran back and forth. That and the levels were not scaled right making it almost ableist in nature for the late game levels. (The classic games did have difficult levels near the end as well but they were doable if you practice enough, those in the late parts of other game were almost only beatable by sheer luck)

Bacana o conceito. É simples, como você falou, e até difícil de escolher os oponentes, pois como no conceito original isso nao existia, os oponentes também nao se encaixam muito bem na temática. Mas de qualquer maneira agradeço por ter explicado como conseguir o demo. Eu baixei aqui e joguei as fases disponíveis. Fiquei feliz de conhecer mais o trabalho, mas triste porque ainda nao temos o jogo completo. Na expectativa de jogar algum dia ainda!

The music almost sounds like it uses the MSU1. The samples seem too high quality for traditional midi. Either that, or this isn't a SNES game at all.

You're right, this music is not part of the original DKC4 soundtrack, as I created this level on my own, the composer (Rodrigo Boechat) hadn't created a soundtrack for it so I just added generic music that I found on the internet.

​@@Rangelukaz extremely impressive. Being 39 years old, I started downloading Roms and fan games in 1998. It's been amazing watching this community and it's capabilities grow and expand. Back in the day, you would immediately be able to tell if it were a PC fan game vs. A rom hack. To have the movement and physics down so perfectly and smoothly lije this, chefs kiss. Being that I beat the original trilogy back then I suppose I'm primed for this.

Again: These levels look all nice, but it's all about the visuals, not the gameplay. You could replace these environments with anything else and it wouldnt make a difference. The gameplay mechanics don't stand out, there is no specific gameplay element to this level. The creators mix too much different stuff into one level, it's not appropriate to the DKC level design.

There are a lot of positive comments, so it shouldnt be too hard to read also critical comments, wasn't intended to "annoy" someone. But your argument implies, that I have to join everything, that I critisize, Just because I don't like it. I don't like that many doctors treat their patients like meat without much empathy. But that doesnt mean, that I have to become a doctor myself.
