Hey Sarah, I love the casual vibe of the whole video. I don’t know it feels like we’re having a whole conversation while your setting up a new deck.

ah, I'm really happy to hear that! I especially enjoyed putting this video together too. I was hoping it'd be more interesting than just talking about DKL and then putting up skate clips over it haha 😂 a fun way to experiment with the videos at the very least

Use the left over grip tape to smooth out the edge of your board/grip. It helps keep it from peeling.

I use DKL on my boards as well for the past 4 months. Absolutely love it and it turned around a few old heads at my skate park with it. And happy I can go through my SB rotation for even longer. Cool seeing you use it on your boards, too!
@SarahParkMatott2 жыл бұрын
ah, have you been using it too? It's great for handed tricks too. Part of why I don't think I can give it up on my freestyle deck. At least not now. Glad you're enjoying the DKL too!

i love dkl for shortboards, its fine for what i do, other than wet weather, which i dont skate my shortboard, i prep all my boards by rubbing them down with alcohol or spirits to help with adhesion. for my longboards i still use very aggressive tape cause slips at speed are pretty sketchy even though most of my longboarding is for distance goals more than speed goals, hills still happen. congrats on your new board.
@SarahParkMatott2 жыл бұрын
Ah, I've never rubbed the deck with alcohol, but that's interesting 🤔 Probably a really good call to stick with regular grip for high speeds too. I'd definitely do that myself 😂

Nice looking deck. I just ordered some non-abrasive grip tape from the Braille shop. Have you ever watched any videos from Jonny Giger? He is a teammate of John Hill on Revive. The guy just blows me away on how good he is. One of the few people that can reproduce the lines of Rodney Mullen. I'm really hoping I like rubber grip tape. I get tired of having to apply trick tape and shoe goo to make shoes last longer.
@SarahParkMatott2 жыл бұрын
Of course! Jonny Giger is a lot of fun to watch. Always amazing to see just how far non-freestyle skaters like Jonny or Elis Frost can push flatground flip tricks and their park lines. Always a fun watch 🙌 And I hope you like the DKL too!

How does it feel to ollie on a freestyle board Sarah? Btw love the new setup.
@SarahParkMatott2 жыл бұрын
I ride double kick freestyle boards, and every board feels a little different. The Waltz Bixby in this video has a decent kick angle (or tail/nose steepness? haha), so the ollie is pretty comfortable! I do have a flatter board which ollies, but the lower kick angles do make it a little more tricky. 😃 I certainly prefer to ollie on the bixby out of all my freestyle boards. And thank you! I love the set up too!

Hey Sarah! What are/were your thought after going back to regular grip tape? I'm a beginner skater and got some DKL griptape for a used board. So far, I'm happy with it and don't notice a huge difference since I'm still learning the basics, but I do agree that the normal sandpaper looks so much better. Thanks!
@SarahParkMatott Жыл бұрын
I definitely needed it in the winter! It made a bigger difference in the cold for sure. But, I did go back to DKL this spring. I do think it gets easier to adjust to the better I get at skating though. Every time I use it again, it's easier to use than the first time or previous time. I just love skating in fully functioning shoes and being able to touch my board for freestyle 😃 I feel like I might go a little back and forth for a while still depending on the season.
@thepstoops2 жыл бұрын
All rubber loses its grip in the cold - there's some science behind it with elasticity and it contracting, but yeah, makes sense that DKL would lose its grip in cold climates.

I used DKL for like a year. But I went back to standard grip. I missed gripping decks with real grip and cutting the lines. I didn’t feel like DKL was bad in the right conditions but when it would get dusty or wet (mainly from sweat drip) it would become not so grippy or in the case of wet actually really slippery. It was just too much of a hassle to dry it off or dust it down mid session. Still have a sheet or two but I’m probably going to continue with regular grip. Shoe wise I skate Joslin 1s. My shoes last well enough both on the upper (with the occasional shoe goo repair) and the bottom even with normal grip.
@SarahParkMatott2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was typically okay as long as I cleaned it before my session. It did get wet a couple times from little puddles, but I'd just wait for it to dry. And I ended up using this little travel towel I had laying around for it. It's like the perfect DKL grip friend haha 😂 So, I didn't mind that part. I have been enjoying the jessup though.
@RikRiorik2 жыл бұрын
@@SarahParkMatott on good and not too dusty ground it was good. Might try it again for nostalgia at some point. I still have 5 Joslin 1s in waiting that I got real cheap though so I’m good for shoes.

Where do you get DKL grip tape? None of the online stores I normally use: Tactics, Skate Warehouse, Socal Skateshop, or Warehouse Skateboards seem to carry it. I think I saw it on Amazon at one point, but, don't see it now. I've been using Mob. Before that, I was using Mini Logo. Mini Logo seemed less grippy than Mob. I'm not sure how much of a difference there was in terms of shredding shoes.
@SarahParkMatott2 жыл бұрын
You can buy DKL from their website. dklskateboarding.com I'm not sure if anywhere else carries it 🤔

Wouldn't griptape type/brand vs specific shoe soles be a massive factor?
@SarahParkMatott2 жыл бұрын
For which aspect? I've skated DKL with 3 different pairs of shoes from 3 different brands both vulcanized and cupsole--ranging from flexible and grippy to a stiffer and less grippy construction. DKL definitely felt better with the grippier vulc I have from Lakai, but it also skated fine with my smoother cupsole from NB. I didn't feel like it was a massive factor, but you're right. It could definitely be a factor!

Hi Sarah another great video. What do you think of the tablets? I've been thinking about getting those. Do they feel heavy? I usually skate 101 why did you get 99a and how do you feel about it?
@SarahParkMatott Жыл бұрын
Ay! Thank you! For me, the tablets are fine. I really don't have much of a wheel preference. Definitely a little heavier than non tablet shapes. But, I got used to it. And even the park ground here is a bit rough. So, I chose the softer one of the two. That's really about it though. I felt they were just a standard wheel, but they didn't chip or flatspot like some of my other wheels did in the past. So, happy with them.

Jessups use to be the shit back in early 2000s then MOB came out and changed lives. it depends what ur preference is and what tricks u like doing. if you like old skool freestyle skating then i suggest not so grippy as MOB griptape. i tried jessups years later and i didnt like it at all it wasnt grippy enough for me and felt slippy and i skate SB Dunks and they are grippy shoes. have u tried mob griptape? and have u ever tried Nike SB Dunks? SB Dunks are my fav skate shoes since early 2000s and ive tried many brands and i use to only skate Emericas. also if u lived in england i would love to hang out with u and skate.

SB dunks grippy? I'll have to disagree here. The rubber they use is slick af, slides around on both mob and jessup

@SarahParkMatott2 жыл бұрын
I think I might have tried mob on a freestyle board once. I liked grizzly too. I don't think I'm too picky. But, just from a consumption perspective, I think I'm drawn more to the lesser abrasive ones! I haven't tried any Nike skate shoes actually. I've had regular nikes before and they've never fit me. Nike and Adidas have hurt my feet in the past, so I'm not sure I'll ever try them. Since, I typically cannot try on in a store (shops tend not to stock smaller sizes in my experience)
