Incredible video. Panathinaikos is the team that, in the last 30 years, has won the most championships in the EuroLeague (7), placing 3rd as the team with the most championships in Europe, behind CSKA Moscow, which has 8, and Real Madrid at the top with 11. CSKA and Real won many of their championships in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Panathinaikos won theirs in 1996, 2000, 2002, 2007, 2009, 2011, and 2024, earning the nickname "The Emperor." One correction though: Sloukas won 2 championships with Olympiacos, 1 with Fenerbahce, and now his 4th with Panathinaikos. The fanbase of the team is surely one of the biggest in Europe!

Good friend. Panathinaikos cannnot be an Emperor, because in our history never we had such a title in authority. Kings, yes, they were descending from the gods. The first king in Athens was Kekrops, the indigenous. But, the real authority is goddess ATHENA, because Athens belongs to her. The PAO fans are called Promachos, the man that fights on the wall in his city. Thank you for your philhellenic feelings.

@athleticproskanion My friend the byzantine empire had emperors, most of them were of greek decent like the last emperor Constantine XI Palaiologos who was crowned emperor in Mystras, Sparta. From Sparta is also Giannakopoulos Paulos, who was Dimitris(father) the owner of PAO. The eastern Roman empire later became the byzantine empire, due to its Greek culture, Greek language, Greek emperors and Greek religion. They were also considered greeks by their enemies. The history doesn't matter though, because it's just a nickname given by the greek media and the fans. Don't take it seriously. It's just sports and marketing.

Compared to the NBA, Euroleague, just like eurodance music, is a little more trashy and that's why we love it.

Id love to see euroleague become the new nba. The nba media is so cringe and the euroleague rules are much better. Not to mention the fan bases. Luka should start the trend by going back to Madrid and giannis playing for one of the greek teams.

I've been watching European basketball for well over 30+ years (going all the way back to the McDonald's Open days in the 80s and 90s). I respect the European game. They play wonderful, team oriented, fundamentally sound basketball that I greatly appreciate. It's like US collegiate basketball, but sharper and more refined. Having said that, the discrediting of the NBA as not "real" basketball is patently absurd. The differences are aesthetic...the rules in the NBA have evolved to favor offensively skilled and/or athletic players, thus the pace, the ease at which to score, and emphasis on individual play is elevated. NBA players are highly skilled at what they do, so to marginalize their abilities within the framework of the NBA's current culture is unfair. It's been further exacerbated by the league's decision in the early/mid 2000s to loosen defensive rules because of fear that the league's scoring averages were too low. What needs to be recognized is that the NBA and Euroleague have two different audiences, so it's not a matter of what's better, but what's different. One last point: much of the point of contention Europeans have with NBA fans (most of whom are Americans) is this insistence that the NBA is vastly superior in terms of play, skill, and talent, while most have never watched European basketball. So there's this recoil coming from Europeans that their game is not respected, despite maintaining the team oriented essence of what makes basketball such a beautiful game. There are certainly things the NBA can learn from Europe. I wouldn't be opposed to the NBA, Euroleague and the rest of the global basketball community having a Club World Championship. And maybe if the NBA gets beaten enough, it'll force the backers who run the sport in the US to integrate closer to the FIBA game. Anyways, those are my throughts from an American's perspective.

We also should mention the financial part of this comparison. United States has always been the basketball version of nowadays Saudi Arabia in football/soccer. Euroleague trophy prize is like 2 million Euros while a Euroleague player's annual salary is like 1 million Euros on average. (EUR/USD : 1,07) Each year, European basketball is being financially devastated by NBA and losing their talents to US. However, Euroleague is still the most enjoyable league to watch because they have their "passionate fans", the atmosphere is crazy as you can see clearly from this video, the clubs feel the responsibility towards the fans, feel the pressure from the fans cause there is partial or no club ownership and if things go wrong for a Euroleague team, you can say goodbye to the president as they are elected by the fans. What NBA doing for over the years is to convert European team players into individual selfish iso players, by using its financial power, providing 3-10x more salaries to European players. Well, in conclusion, you are "as a customer" also paying much higher for what you get and you have no control or right over your supported team. You are the franchise's customer and you only support to the team where you reside (and for what? for no reason). Cause when an average US basketball fan move to another city, they also change their team to where they reside, which is totally absurd for a European citizen. Yet another waste of world resources powered by US.

The bury (or the ugliness) of the Euro League is that you play the entire season to get to the final four. You can crush all opponents on the way, having 90% win ratio but you come to a blank slate - one game on a neutral court.

There are several differences between European and NBA basketball. Obviously the rules. Obviously the WAYYYYYY bigger NBA budgets for getting and signing players. The adverts pie, huge in the USA for Teams and Players, much smaller in Europe teams and virtually non-existant for European players in Europe. The players ARE NOT that much different. Currently the USA 2024 team is mostly over 30 year old legends. Plus one of the best centers of the League who could be in Cameroon, or better yet, France. Imagine Embiid with France's roster. Add him to Webanyama and Gobert and the other players. But who would face such a frontcout? Not even the USA, they would dominate(frontcourt wise at least). And that's the reason USA made this adjustment. Apart from that. Some of the best players of the NBA today, most with rings to prove it: Donsic, Adetokounmbo, Jokic, Porzingis...Wembanyama no1 HUGE prospect and already accomplished as a rookie. 2024 No 1,2 NBA Draft also French. Many players in high level playing and high NBA draft positions(Vusevic, Wagner, Misic, Sabonis, Topic, Salaun, Sarr, Risacher to name a few) are European. Most probably an NBA team with NBA budgets and some or all of those Europeans would Dominate the NBA. So "You" stop with your arrogance that Euroleague is on par with NBA it's not. It could be but with a lot of IF's. And "You" stop licking the marshmellow that Americans are the top. Used to. NOT any longer. A team United Europe would defeat the USA team 8/10 times. Heck even the rest of the world is catching up. Enjoy the games as they are. It's not a battlefield most of the time. It's meant to be something we enjoy watching(like when Magic, Byrd, Jordan, Kukoc, Petrovic, Marculonis, Sabonis -Arvydas- even Kobe and Dirk played. There where great players that have never been to NBA, Galis, Yannakis, Riva, San Epifanio, )
