They might be trying to buy out the market. Think of it as market manipulation. This has been known in magic the gathering and other card games. There was a guy with a ton of copies of 1 useful card artificially making it more rare. If I sold a ds for twice the value I could for example use that to get 2 ds’s at market value and scale like that

Back in the 2000's they would use bots to buy up all the cheap stuff on ebay, leave the over priced stuff behind and then sell the stuff they bought on their website for a markup. They'd also horde uncommon and rare games so the only place you could get it reliably was on their website at a bloated price. Over time this raised the prices of retro collecting in general. They, and other businesses that operate the same, are the reason retro gaming went from a fairly cheap hobby in the mid 2000's to an unaffordable one by the mid 2010's. Now, DKoldies wasn't alone in doing this but they were definitely one of the first and one of the biggest to do it.

Also, as to the "fake dust" accusations, you can't fake caked-on smoker's dust; it was obviously deposited over time. It has a unique sticky yet fluffy quality that can only be created by tobacco tar mixing with dust in the air and getting sucked through a fan and deposited on the first thing it touches.

I will admit, I made one of those review videos for fun after I found their TikTok and was doing an impression of Joey while I opened my OG Xbox I bought. I was naive to prices being a new gamer and just enjoyed their content. I made that video in August of last year and if you go back to it on their page it’s a longer video that Hunter & Britt did a stitch with. Was I surprised to seeing it used again with everything going on now, no, not at all, but heavily edited. I was honest in the comment of the reposted video & said the outside came clean, shipping was fast, prices were high, & it booted right up and still works. I’ve never opened the console to check the inside. Not until I’ve seen all these reviews from you guys did I think to do that. Thank you by the way for really putting the consumer first. I thought that’s what they were priding themselves on but it’s not and these desperate attempts to double down on lies is very disappointing. What DKOldies could do is put a sheet of paper with each console. Then each stage that console goes to how ever who is doing that job write their name and signature. If part of the sheet isn't filled out it doesn't get sent until it has. This way if a console isn't cleaned or refurbished properly you could check the name on the sheet and know who failed to do their job.

Those people are just scammers, the bare minimum for a refurbishment is cleaning, replacing the thermal compound and making sure everything works before selling it, in consoles that have thermal pads like a n64, gamecube, wii is not even necesary to replace the pad couse it usually doesnt go off, but the thermal paste in a ps3, xbox 360, ps4, xbox one, switch does go off. So to refurbish a modern-ish system well is completelly necesary to replace the paste, i think you are right, not just couse you arent the only one that received a console that was not refurbished, but also couse you have no reason to lie, dk oldies does have reasons to lie, to protect their scam bussiness, and also i have seen with my eyes your videos and others' videos, i have seen most of the dust in the consoles is spread arround the air vents and fans, which is completelly logical and almost imposible to fake. You also seem like a really nice guy, unlike those people from dk oldies, i watched 1 short like a couple of years ago and i thought back then something was off, now i know what it is, i had enough with that 1 short and never watched them again.

Hell, I have tried changing my PSN 3 times now myself and my sons successfully changed it once lol. He got to do it for free and I've paid three times, still no PSN change 😂 and forget customer service with Sony (Microsoft isn't that bad), but I can't even get Sony on a phone call. Their prices are absolutely ridiculous. But that's on the buyer if they want to blow their money like that. But if someone is spending that much money, I'd expect it to at least come with an original controller. The biggest issue for me is them MISLEADING people into thinking they're doing all this extra work cleaning and refurbishing the consoles, and using that to justify their extravagant price points, to find out they're NOT actually doing it. You could get the same condition if not better from eBay at half the price. Not to mention their bogus warranty stickers they're using to hide the fact that they're not opening them. Dude's packing slip literally said Please Clean in the notes, which would obviously be redundant to say if it was their policy to clean everything from the start.

dang... one time i bought a cosmetically flawed console and it arrived in perfect condition and i even opened it up and there was no dust. Weird how some are disgusting and some are cleaN

At this point, I’m convinced Jacob actually works for DKOldies and is making all these videos for publicity sake. Any press is good press, and he’s pumping out more videos about this company than anyone I’ve ever seen. He’s lowkey obsessed with them at this point, so I’m convinced it has to be staged to bring attention to the company 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yes, because telling potential customers that they WILL NOT receive what is advertised is definitely a grade A business strat. Dude, DKOldies is a business, not a celebrity. I’m this case, bad publicity IS ACTUALLY BAD. They won’t admit it, but I can almost guarantee that their sales have been lowered since the news of them not refurbishing products has come to light. That’s not what you want as a business. Attention does nothing for a business. Sales do. And nothing Jacob or anyone else has said is bringing sales.

i dont think those people on your FB comments know the meaning of refurbished, they could have sold it as used and not refurbished. but tagging it as refurbished would justify the price more even though its still expensive. If your car in for a service you expect that filters and oil is changed out and not get it as you brought it because it still runs, thats making money on lies and ripping people off imo. there should be consumer protection so that shops cant do these practices and give them a heavy fine for misleading customers/consumers

Thank you for exposing scams like this on your channel. You're 100% in the right and it sickens me that a company is charging for refurb consoles and scamming people by not doing this. It would be different if they just sold the consoles as is and wasn't claiming to refurb them they can charge whatever they want. It's different when I company sell you a service and takes advantage as most people won't open the console and look.
