Both of those Genesis minis are actually made by the same company and were officially endorsed by Sega believe it or not. The HD model came out during the height of the mini console craze and was well intended to be the official Genesis mini in the vein of the NES and SNES mini. This caused a lot of backlash that lead to Sega making their own in house mini console that we eventually got.

They just actually put in the effort to name them differently. There is not eight Contra games on the NES for example. Most Retron consoles use CENTER NEGATIVE power supplies. They always have fried regulators because people use different power supplies with common center positive. That's probably what you smell, toasted regulator and capacitor.

They make money on people dropshipping crap like this and schlepping repro games from CHina, even at a normal scammers price like it's OEM, they do not want to solve the problem. When they say they don't sell fake consoles, I think you can be rational and understand that it means they wouldn't sell you a fake genesis if you bought a real genesis and that they don't retail fake consoles on their website. But I assume they buy entire lots of used consoles for "refurbishment" (ha) and they end up with tons of stuff like this. It seems totally reasonable for them to take all of those consoles, put them in a box, and start an ebay auction for cheap just to get rid of them. And you knew that's what it was going into it. I'm sorry DKOldies has done a lot of scummy things, but I can't blame them for this. I'm sure that this is just items that they got in auction lots themselves or had people sell them claiming that they were real NES Minis. It makes sense that they would just get rid of them on Ebay, instead of throwing them in the trash. They weren't attempting to sell them as something that they weren't.

but it's illegal to sell those items 1, and 2 it's forbidden on the ebay platform. Ebay selectively enforces rules on selling reproductions, homebrewed consoles etc. and all that matters is money. Scumbags doing scumbag things. Seems like they could have done a smash video and destroyed these and gotten more benefit than breaking the law and ebay TOS to sell them, especially when you consider that they did that smash vid on the iQue so long ago.
