Ideal combination of man, machine and tractor, just right for that sort of job and it was always surprising just how much grunt they has for many farm type jobs both in terms of traction, PTO and hydraulic power.

DLH Farms they were easily the best tractor that size in the 70s, pretty comfortable to drive for what they were too (compared to a Massey or David Brown)

orkid knog They always will. I know a guy who uses his "retired" think 3600? Idk, old small gas ford tractor from the 60s to haul around hog traps, fence material and spread fertilizer. Good little tractors. Though i still claim he wasnt right mentally. Used a 6ft shredder that was well too large for that tractor. Had to double pass our halftrack. That sucked. I told that old timer to get a 4ft. Never listened. He finally did buy a larger new tractor though. Smartest decision he had done.

Exactly what I've been doing... about a 3x1 mix of K31 and Oregon annual rye. We had some steep slopes I broadcast some cover rye on also. No over seeding, just seeding dirt. We ran the furrow/spike seeder (6') over the level ground and broadcast the rest. This was all trash woods and vines we cleared and the wood is all sitting in piles to burn next year... Cat loader did the clearing. My brother root raked with the skid steer and I took the Deere with the yard rake behind him. Still some rocks and sticks in them but the bush hog can handle most of it. Close to 20acres on east and west side of farm combined. No good broadcasting grass seed in the wind. Never ends up where you want it... well most of it doesn't. heavier seed like cover rye is OK to seed in the wind.
@DLHFarms

Yep it's definitely a time consuming process trying to clear land, I don't know how they did it before equipment came into being.
@Atoyota
@Atoyota 6 жыл бұрын
Probably burned it in place then came along later with mules to pull stumps plow and rake. We have a lot of stone fences up here, miles and miles of them. Oh and this land used to be all dairy until it went fallow for half a century or more. All the trash trees and vines took over. I'd have loved to have seen see the forests before they were cleared... we have some virgin timber (60 acres or so) and it's gorgeous.

Dennis, how do you figure out what setting to set your broadcast spreader on for seed/lime/fertilizer/ etc?
@DLHFarms
@DLHFarms 5 жыл бұрын
Mainly just experience, there isn't an exact science to it with this type of spreader. I can tell you with the lighter material like grass seed you have to open the spreader up more to get good coverage.
@OgleBilly
@OgleBilly 5 жыл бұрын
DLH Farms kinda figured... I got that 1023e and a ss1023b broadcast spreader for it. I was using it to lime in February and going by the chart and brother, that chart ain’t right! So I recon, like you suggested, I’ll just have to play w/it and figure it out. Thanks pal!
@DLHFarms
@DLHFarms 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's better to put down a little to much than not enough so I lean towards opening it up pretty good.
