The Krone is made in the small town of Spelle Germany. With the Krone in dry conditions back the pto rpm down if you haven’t already , normally that helps resolve the windrowing issue. Max rpm is 540 but recommend operating range is actually 350-450. Nice video, shows how specs can be misleading.
@DLHFarms

I’ve tried that with mediocre results. Maybe changing the pitch of the tooth would help.
@Tools-Tested
@Tools-Tested 3 жыл бұрын
@@DLHFarms Advancing each tooth can also help, especially if they have started to push back past 90 degrees in relation to the tine arm. The bolt that hold the tine on runs through a three position eccentric which gives you 2 positions for advancing the tooth.

Hello, I had the same 5.52 krone tedder and I bought 2 new 4 basket krone tedders last year and I have found that they don't seem to turn the same rpm as the old 5.52 did. I was thinking about a peqway 4 basket, so I'm glad you did this video. I do like the larger tires on the new krone. I also have a kuhn 6 basket, that does a good job, I may see about a 4 basket kuhn.

Nice Heavy Duty Tedder, Tough decision to keep it or move up to a larger unit. Kina depends on acreage and the farm budget. We run Vermeer TE1710 and have good results with the Hook Tines that really flips and throws the hay, independent hydraulic tilt, but with single acting folding cylinder and a long driveshaft. It's really nice to have the independent tilt cylinder for ruts and dips in the field.

@damjord

@@DLHFarms Why? I can only assume that the trailed hay tools can be operated by lighter tractors. But like Dave said the benefit of the 3 point hitch mounted tedder is the ability to lift the tines out of the ground.
@DLHFarms
@DLHFarms 3 жыл бұрын
@@damjord because 3pt equipment is more difficult to hook and unhook when you need to switch the tractor to different implements throughout the day. Our 3pt is just the traditional type you have to fight the pins in and out, everything has to be lined up perfectly it’s time consuming when every minute counts to get the hay up and beat the rain.

@@DLHFarms I agree 100% - 3 point is a pita for hitching/unhitching. We have a 5.2m Fendt 4 rotor 3-point mounted tedder. I believe our 30 PTO hp tractor would drive it fine, especially in drier grass, but because of its weight we have to run it with our 60 PTO tractor. Because of that I would prefer a trailed tedder.

We've been using a Pequea tedder for 5 years now, it's a great tedder IMO, it does a real good job of tossing the hay out, wet or dried down. We must have gotten short changed too, ours said 18' but usable only measures out to 17' 8" LOL. I wish ours had the hydraulic tilt like yours, it would be great when you see a chuck hole coming, but next on our list is a rotary rake.

We've had that same conversation on a 4 basket or 6 basket but ultimately the money just never makes sense for us. Especially with the land we have here in SWVA, just seems like they would have a hard time with contouring. Ultimately we went a Claas Volto 55 this last time because of how it pulled in transport. We run a lot of highway between fields and our Vermeer TE1710 would do 15mph max. I can run 35 with the Claas steady on.

Ive had a 4 star pequea, 6 star pequea, amd now have a 4 star krone and 8 star krone. The pequea does spread the hay better than the krone but thats about all I really liked about them. I found that the bushings and pins wore extremely fast on the pequeas and parts were also harder to get and just as high as krone. I love the 8 star krone i have now. It has small rotors which helps it spread the hay more evenly, even dryer hay. Even though its an 8 star it only covers 30 ft. It has transport wheels that fold down and make it nice going down the road.

Interesting about the seals on the lift cylinders. We're in our third year on a 6 star Krone 2pt hitch with transport wheels. Love the tedder..the oblique is a life saver for getting hay away from Vermont's maple trees, and round baling [needs to have drier hay]. Had an 8 star Kuhn for years and went to Krone because of a more robust construction. Anyway, both of the clylinders are leaking oil, which pisses me off. I saw you change a seal in an earlier video. Great work, but not something I want to do. Krone parts are crazy expensive!! Love your videos.

I got rid of a 6 basket pequea last spring and went to a 4 krone. Best decision I've made. I'll never own anything pequea again. The frames on the 6 basket don't hold up where they're bolted from the center gearbox. I had the entire wing break off mine twice (new frame section, shaft, bearings, seals, tines, and arms that got torn up). They advertise a factory "fix" for the frame section but it's not beefy enough yet to carry the weight of the wings when your folding and unfolding

I have a Pequea TT4101 , I have used it for 2 years and have been very happy I have a lot of rough ground and it handles it very well I also like the feature that allows you to raise the tedder without raising the wings and it doesn't require a rope to unlatch the tedder wings . I haven't measured the width of mine but I am pretty sure I will be aggravated just like you, their website says working width 18'-2'' that needs to be change to the correct dimension. The only thing I don't like is it traps hay between the band and the top shield on the tedder arms it is not excessive I use a leaf blower and blow it out pretty easy unless the hay is wet. It does work well in wet hay and I haven't had any problems with it wind rowing hay. If you decide to keep it I think you will be happy with the performance and durability of the machine. I will be measuring mine this evening so I can be pissed off also.... Thanks for the videos...

I’m not a farmer just to put that out there. I use to cut grass for money. It’s all about time and money. I’d say this to each how many more passes to you have to make with the shorter one? The other question is if the smaller has a faster time speed does it not then matter. Meaning will it spread the hay farther than the Krone? I like that the fact that the Krone is lighter that way it’s a little more fuel-efficient in might to pull behind. Do they both run at the same engine RPM speed to get the tines to move? If the smaller one needs a higher RPM to get that faster tines speed that’s going to burn a little fuel along with it’s extra weight. Now I don’t farm, I’m just a viewer but those are the questions that I might have. From all the videos I’ve seen you use with that Krone it has done a very good job. I don’t know it’s interesting to see what you choose in the end.

Dennis, there may be other variables to consider. Possibly the Pequea will ted at 9 mph while the Krone does best at 8 1/2 mph thereby more than compensating for the narrow width. Another possibility is actual tedded width. Measure the actual tedded path behind each one, there could be a slight angle difference in the two causing functional difference in width. I am not a farmer but I do like the features of the Pequea. Art
