The highly anticipated rematch of the #1 & #2 teams in America. LB Poly believed they had a shot at the Spartans, since they were "rebuilding" after the loss of several key seniors from the first matchup. They were wrong.

My son was the quarterback for DLS. Talk about pressure.

@@ZOANOM Okay that's what's up. By chance do you have both games of DLS vs Monta Vista from 2009 and their first state title game?

@@IRON5 Sorry, I sure don’t. My era with DLS was from ‘99-‘02, when my son played there. When they lost in ‘03 up in Washington and wnded the Streak, I kinda lost touch.

@@ZOANOM Your son was definitely one of the best DLS ever had. He stepped up big time and kept the Streak going.

These teams were awesome back then. In those days it was DLS, Poly, Loyola & Mater Dei consistently going to the division 1 CIF championship. I believe these teams would beat up today's teams with their physicality.

No, not these days. Mater Dei and St. John Bosco, due to the new transfer rule, have become college teams.

Independence from North Carolina would have given DLS a very good game anywhere from 2000 to 2005. Indy had a much better passing game than what either DLS or Poly showed in either of these 2 matchups. I think depending on the year DLS probably beats Indy but Indy would score at least 4 TDs on them. Indy was just on a different level offensively and just had playmaker after playmaker at every position on offense and their coach was an offensive genius.

Many a great program has claimed the same, only to be shocked at the speed and strength of the O-Line. Long Beach Poly was touted as one of the most "talented" teams in high school, and they were absolutely shut out. Remember, DLS linemen played both ways. Poly had two fresh lines, and they racked up a whopping 6 yards rushing in the first half at Berkeley. I recall Independence being very prominent in those years, but the deal was never made. I don't believe Indy was ever ranked in the top 5 back then, so maybe that's why DLS didn't play them. It's quite an undertaking to fly around the country playing high school football, and when you're #1, you just can't accommodate every program that thinks they have the formula to take out the King of the hill.

@ZOANOM agreed on alot of your points. I think DLS wins most years against Indy in that time had they matched up, possibly Indy beats them in 2001 if lucky, but Indy 2004 would have absolutely beaten DLS in 2004. 2004 was Indys best team and DLS worst team. 2003 Indy would have beaten Evangel Chritian just as bad as DLS did. I watched that game. People think Indy was just a flash in the pan but they also had superb coaching and a system in place by Tom Knotts, who is pretty much doing the same now at Dutch Fork in South Carolina, winning championship after championship there now after departing Indy. Indy had likely the greatest passing game ever seen in High School and had SEC QBs Chris Leak and Joe Cox for 5 straight years and had NFL receivers Hakeem Nick's and Mohammed Massaqoui. They broke nearly every passing record in the books. And they always had two stellar RBs at the time, and also a very underrated stingy defense.

That touchdown pass from Cecil to Colvin was the dagger in the heart for Poly.

My favorite part of that play was Cameron's point to the sky for his mother, who had recently passed.

Yes, DLS shut them down. 6 yards rushing at halftime.
