I do enjoy the history of the original story honestly, as a DM you can re tell the story as originally told. It would be cool to have the characters party search for this ancient city!!

That is part of Shadow of the Dragon Queen

I actually prefer the new version to the old. Gives it a more story driven history to use instead of the older and more vague story.

Right on. It does connect to the Cataclysm and the legacy the War of the Lance is focused on.

To reply to another commenter, I would say that it isn't against the lore to have mention of dragons as long as they are good. The good dragons were never banished from Krynn, but hidden away on the Dragon Isles to the north of Ansalon to preserve the balance. So it makes sense that they would fly from the dragon isles to defend the bones of the dead buried in the dragon's graveyard. The whole debacle was kept secret in the Kingpriest's inner circle, so it isn't common knowledge that the dragons were still around.

You bring up a good point there.

Very cool! I wasn't aware of the previous lore about the City of Lost Names prior to its mention in SOTDQ. The 5E version is much worse. To have dragons present at that time ruins one of the original premises of DL that dragons haven't been seen for thousands of years. This would make it less than 400 years before The War of The Lance meaning a ton of creatures (elves, dwarves etc) would have remembered them. Also, it doesn't fit the narrative of the Kingpriest, who thought himself to be "good", to have been in this war/ cover-up with the metallic dragons. As you've mentioned in other videos, these changes to the lore are particularly frustrating because there's no reason for them. I don't expect the SOTDQ party to be going back in time to Istar so why include that changed lore? In my opinion, you don't get "points" with DL fans for including easter eggs like mentioning the Kingpriest, if you are changing the related lore for no apparent reason. Great vid though, thanks!

Thank you for sharing your perspective. I agree, dragons being around so recently flies in the face of the lore.

So... I use Krynn as my setting for 5e, but I have changed a lot of things about the setting (I was a fan of Chronicles and Legends but did not like everything set after that) As a result I don't use the High God or Chaos or any of that in my cannon. I also don't like the Graygem origin and so changed that a lot and had different gods make different races instead. When it comes to the City Of Lost names I mixed the original concept with the one from SOTDQ by just having the Kingpriest locate the city long after the events with the Graygem and rebuild it - therefore being able to use a mixture of both aspects of the canon.

Whoa, that's an interesting take on the setting. As long as you and your players are having fun, that's great!

I think that both versions can coexist. See, consider all original true.... add the use of the site as a graveyard later and the Kingpriest a usurper of the powers on the site. Need some writing but can be done.

Very true, they are separated by thousands of years…

What if the name "The City of Lost Names" was also lost? 🤔

Whoa, the lost name of the city of lost names....

I like the original better. Having the dragons attacking the city just never really fit well for me. My group is also adventuring several years before Shadow of the Dragon Queen, and I've been thinking about having them find their way to the city. The older version gives me some ideas of what to place there.
