A flying ship yes. Still working on the citadel

One of my favourite camps to DM invovled two groups going up to tackle a flying citadel (non Dragonlance but Dragonlance inspired) flown by a cloud giant and his army of ogres. The added affect of being able to toss people into the sky is a lot of fun for castle combat. Of course they crashed it. That's the inevitable end for all flying citadels I feel. Hahah. Thanks for this video. Had no idea the citadels went back that far in DL history. Been enjoying this channel!

I love the concept of the flying citadel. It’s such an iconic fantasy trope. The city in the sky

@@DLSaga ya a Player who joined my campaign back in 2019 recovered it. He has 8 adult to young adult dragons from Gold to Copper Dragon as its air group. Along with the some 2,000 troops of various types and ballistas it’s an area dominating fortress.

Fun video! Reminds me of the time I encountered one in the old Dragon Strike computer game from the early 90s.

Gold box? Its on sale on steam
@michaelpollock11812 жыл бұрын
@@warlockjmn Dragon Strike wasn't a gold box game but a dragon flight simulator. Really fun and you could pilot various good dragons with different breath weapons. Check it out! I seem to remember Champions of Krynn, which was a goldbox game, showcasing a flying citadel but I could be wrong.

I haven’t been able to get that far. I need to play that again.

@@DLSaga It was one of the final missions of the game and very difficult! I think you had to fight multiple old red dragons. Great mission, great game and great memories.

The biggest problem with a flying fortress is how to supply it. Is there an army of dragon riders dedicated to brining food and water to it constantly? The water alone would be a huge problem, a dragon rider can only carry a few barrels at a time and the castle garrison would use more than that in a day. If the castle could land to take on supplies it would help with this tremendously. Supplying 3,000 troops on land is a major project, doing it in the sky for weeks would be difficult at best. The only realistic solution would be magic, spellcasters creating water and food en masse would solve some of these problems but not all.
@DLSaga2 жыл бұрын
Great points. I’m not sure outside magical creation, food and water were considered at all.

You can harvest clouds for water. They're close enough to them. :)

Rain bins. Problem solved
@Dragon88Dark2 жыл бұрын
@@herotomillions4095 Won't be anywhere near enough by itself. There is a reason castles on the ground are built near water sources, you need a large amount of fresh water to maintain a garrison. Rain wouldn't be enough, it also be in irregular times. Hollowing out the ground underneath the castle and making a pond underneath the castle would give you more but still not enough.

Son of a gun!!! Since I have gotten back into DL I went thru my old books and have 'The Art of Dragonlance' on my desk. Keith Parkinson's painting is the Flying Citadel on the cover. I couldn't find it - WIFE on the other hand...using a magnifying glass she found both the Tardis and K-9 (at least we think the white bump is K-9) ^_^.

any chance of you doing some Minotaur Empire vids? Haven't seen much of them yet or any references taken from their numerous novels "Land of Minotaurs", "Maquesta Kar-Thon", "Minotaur Wars Trilogy" etc

I haven’t actually dread any of those novels. I get most of my information from the gaming sourcebooks. I can look into making a vid though. Thanks for the suggestion!

@@DLSaga they're worth the read, very well fleshed out. The Minotaurs Wars really shows the Lawful Evil independence of the race among Evil Aligned nations. Plus the details of the Minotaur Invasion of Silvanesti and how they are colonizing it.

Flying Citadels are the worst! Whenever some hotshot sorcerer or wizard wants to go out on the town for dinner at an inn the valets all hide because no one wants to parallel park the damn things. The beeping noise when you put them in reverse echoes throughout an entire kingdom!
