The Charge 5 has a more detailed sound, in my opinion - a clearer separation between low-mids and bass. While the Charge 4 may sound "fuller," it comes at the expense of clarity.

I bought both. First the 4 and thought the sound was muddy. Then I got the 5. Way brighter and clearer soundstage. And the bass was not bad. I’d made my decision to return the 4. Then I updated the 5’s firmware and WOW! The 4’s sound is embarrassingly bad. The 5 is louder, brighter, clearer, and the bass is deeper and much more integrated into the sound rather than living under it. It’s enjoyable! Very! Extremely!!! There is absolutely no reason to buy a 4 unless you’re stuck in the JBL Connect ecosystem.

Better separation on the 5 with the mids and highs. highs are definatley crisper on the 5. The 4 sounds quite muddy, some would say smoother. Can't comment on the soundstage. The crispness in the uppers will change once its broken in. For what they are, they are great. I get my 5 tomorrow, for my fishing trips. I will say I like the smaller logo. I dislike huge branding. We know its JBL, now it just shouts at you. Plus small carrying buckles would have been great, for hanging up somewhere. Great review though. Maybe the 5 will grow on you. Change is a funny thing when you are attached to something else. I have looked at the Bose, Dali, Sony, B & O and a few others. This ticked most of the boxes for what I wanted it for. Its a shame they don't do better codecs for it.

I got the JBL Charge 5 today, and I think the speaker sounds fantastic. I've had the Charge 4 since October 2020, and I also really love that speaker too. I decided to make the upgrade today and get the Charge 5 because I've heard it sounds better than the 4. Well, they're not wrong, but I do have issues using it with my phone. When I try to play music through my phone (LG L455DL), the music is constantly stuttering. I've never had this issue with my Charge 4 or Xtreme 2. I'm thinking maybe it's just my phone because it's not very good. I try it on my iPad, and it works flawlessly! The speaker sounds so good it sounds like the person is singing in the same room with you! Whenever I try to listen to music through my Charge 4, it sounds muffled compared to the Charge 5. The Highs, the Vocals, the bass... everything is just so good on this speaker. I discovered that the speaker needed a firmware update, so I did the update, and the stuttering has improved, but it's not completely gone when I use my phone. I am rather disappointed that it won't work correctly with my phone, but at least with my iPad it doesn't do that. Edit: After playing some heavy metal through this thing at max volume, IT JUST LEAVES THE CHARGE 4 IN THE DUST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UNBELIEVABLE VOLUME!!! It is so loud that it will hurt your ears if you're indoor. I am not exaggerating!! This thing could easily be heard 1/2 a mile away!! If you are listening to heavy metal and want the charge 4, forget it!! You would be much much happier with the Charge 5!! It is more expensive, but I now know why it is! Massive improvement over the 4 in terms of treble and over all volume!!

What's your hearing is coaxial speeker versus separates.. when you don't have a tweeter that is a coaxial design where everything is coming out of a central point. That actually gives you some advantages we are from a distance everything will hit your ears at the same time unless you have some type of processing inside the speaker for the timing issues with separates. AND YOU KNOW THEY DO NOT HAVE THAT FOR THAT SMALL PRICE POINT. You will get a tighter sound with coaxial.. The advantages of separates different amplifiers for each speaker will not so much of a difference in such a small unit.. in a compact situation coaxial is actually a better.. Coming to you from an audio engineer and an audiofile.. You have a good year for hearing that!! ;)

What version u got? I have a Flip 6 GG but I'm getting the charge 5 here only in TT and NT versions right now.. :(

Great speakers. I own both, and if u like bass and don't care about hearing every detailed instrument, get the 4, but the 5 gives u that professional breakdown of all the sounds. High and low

Willington, the Charge 5 needs some break in. My friend noticed that, after it got more bass after some time. Alan Ross Reviews observed the same thing actually.

Awesome video as always! I think the C5 has deeper bass, instead of upper bass like the C4, but there are people that like both. Seriously wish that JBL would add an EQ so everyone can be happy lol. Also don't really like the new design too much, the rubber feet on my GO3 have started peeling off lol, and the new design looks a bit bulky. Edit: spelling and grammar, etc.
@DLXWillington3 жыл бұрын
I do like the rubber feet but didn't know they come off so easily because that wouldn't be good, I haven't had that issue yet though so time will tell
@ej10253 жыл бұрын
Yeah, EQ would be great. Agreed with that design I prefer the older one. Wish I could get the Charge 4's design with the 5's lower bass.

Why there is less bass on Charge 5? Has it got to do with the firmware ? Or really the TL or ND version matters ??
@mlemingcapoo3 жыл бұрын
Maybe it because of the “burn-in” effect The longer time u use it, the better it performs (the driver inside)
@chamitharadewanga26913 жыл бұрын
Jbl charge 4 driver is rated to perform at 60Hz - 20khz.. but charge 5 is only from 65hz - 20khz. That 5hz makes that bass difference i guess.

Many thanks for the extensive A-B comparison sequences. Although the volume levels are quoted as the same, were they actually tested with a Db meter and shown to be identical? From this test, I am convinced that I made the correct decision. I started shopping for a Charge 4 after hearing a friend’s Charge 3, but in the process I found a refurb Charge 5 for the same price. No doubt in my mind the C5 is superior.
