I started picking about a year and a half ago, my son got me a bag o locks for Christmas last year. Inside was 12 American 700's, a medeco pad lock, and assorted locks way above my skill level at the time. I'm was sitting here with a 700 on my desk playing around with it and saw your video. Very nice find indeed for you, very informative video for me. I've been going at it with short hooks, and a praxis deforest diamond. I'm getting a false set on the newer one's, but had to use brake cleaner and some sewing machine oil on the older ones (they were well used). Thanks for the insight, I'm sure it will come in handy.

What a fun lock to have just randomly packaged in with euro cylinders!

Nicely picked and well spotted. I do like picking those American lock serrated pins. I think they're really good practice for developing a light touch and feel. I'm going to have to start looking more closely at those job lots 😆

Still in my collection, a lovely padlock. In all my years hunting, it's one of the few gems I've found. I love a bargain! 😁👍🏻

Found a series 30 beginning of week. Having trouble, any sergestion? 🔒🔓♿

I've not come across a series 30 yet, but I'd go for the same approach as this 700. Many american locks share the same cores.

It's like the 1100, but core is not removable unless you drill the rivet out & replace with a screw. 👍👍♿

@Dmac - Good video, but one criticism (constructive, I hope) - you have a bright light source behind you (a window?) and the light keeps reflecting and flashing back off the lock as you move it around. Perhaps close the curtains if you have them, or change the angle of the camera to lock? Even while you were gutting the lock, the light is still reflecting back of the lock, the gut wrench, etc, and flaring into the camera. Not intended to be anything other than constructive comment...! :)

A fair point and something I did notice too. It happened to be a sunny day and my desk is right next to a window. I'll curse american lock for making such a beautifully reflective padlock! 😆✌🏻

No, ball bearings lock the shackle in place in the 700
